Lab 3 Temperature curves of different materials

Objectives: The objective of this experiment is to study the difference in curves of temperature against
length of different materials and the different thermal conductivity k which is material specific.

Summary:

As can be observed from the graphs, the temperature of material decreases as the distance between
source and point increase. It can be also observed that since the relationship is not linear the
temperature gradient also changes non linearly as we move away from the source. The thermal
conductivity k is constant for aluminum and all other materials but the k shown in the graph is the
temperature gradient.

Conclusion: The material to be able to dissipate heat faster needs to have uniform rigid atomic structure
for better conductivity and spread of thermal energy. This is the reason why only well conducting
materials are used as cooling fins.
