3. Making Progress

We are making very good progress and there is only one chapter left on QC. However, the next three
weeks will be busy with a practical report every week.

By today you should have self-studied all the topics in Module 6. The FORUM on elearning will remain
open for questions or comments. Under Module 6 you should have done the calculations for all
Problems up to before Lab Math Homework.

Solutions are under Module 6 on elearning. Make sure that you know all the formulas and are able
to apply them when given calculations.

Test 1 went well I have to mark the essay type answers manually. All students attempted the test.
Unfortunately, one student could not finish in time, but she started at 10:22 PM.

Timing was 2 hours. After that there was a grace period to submit of 15 minutes. In future I shall
increase the grace period to 2 days to accommodate those who do not have good connectivity. But
note that you will not be able to answer more questions after timing has lapsed.

Two more students failed to submit but I shall mark manually.

When you submit there are three steps to follow:

• Finish
• Finish and submit all questions
• Pop-up with confirmation. IMPORTANT to click on it and then it is final submission
4. Activities for next week

We are busy with Module 6: Medical Terminology, Metric Units, Dilutions

6.5 Dilutions and laboratory calculations p. 119

DO all the calculations of the PROBLEMS in LAB MATH HOMEWORK in the study notes. I shall provide
answers at the end of next week, but you should first apply your knowledge to do it on your own. Then
you can just check whether you agree with my calculations.

If you have any questions post it on the FORUM (elearning) or WhatsApp.

Module 7: QC

Self-study p.121-129 in the study notes. On p.121 is a Glossary of Terms. It is for your reference, but I
won’t ask it in the test. Self-study p.123-129 (Before7.8).

Watch the video BioradQC Chapter 1: Basics of QC.

Even if I share videos, I always use the study notes when I set questions for the test.

Practical 5: Centrifuges, Balances – make up normal saline. DUE Thursday 11 June

You have to refer to the practical manual and read the instructions for the practical carefully although
we shall not be on campus to do it in the lab.

There is a website which you need to refer to in order to answer the questions.

For question 12: Read carefully through the method in the practical and also refer to your HPY study
notes on cells.

You may print a copy of the lab report, fill it by hand, scan and email. Or take a photo and whatsapp.

Or you could save a word document and fill it on your computer and email it.

NOTE

Email your report to Ms Kamanja at skamanja@nust.na

OR whatsapp to lecturer at 081 3399355.
