How stress influences the academic activities of the students in the

university

For the longest time, people assumed that the student population was the least
affected by any sort of stress or problems. Stress is now understood as a lifestyle
crisis affecting any individual regardless of their developmental stage. The only
task students were expected to undertake was to study and studying was never
perceived as stressful. What proved to be stressful was the expectations parents
had for their children, which in turn grew into larger burdens that these children
could not carry anymore.

Depression, anxiety, behavioural problems, irritability, etc. These are a few of the
many problems reported in students with high academic stress, incidences of
depression were also found among stressful students as it is linked with inability to
concentrate, fear of failure, negative evaluation of future, etc. The students were
also show a sign of indulging in various risky behaviours such as increased
consumption of alcohol and drugs, unprotected sexual activities, physical inactivity,
poor eating and sleeping patterns

How does stress manifest?

Once you have identified stressful situations, it is important to recognize how you
react to them; what effects do they process on your body and on your emotions.
Although stress is normal and beneficial, since it helps us to activate ourselves to
be able to respond to the demands and demands of the environment, over time our
body and mind become exhausted and begin to decrease in performance. To
prevent this drop in performance we must regulate the amount of time that we keep
running.

Prevention and coping with academic stress


Once we identify the situations that cause us stress and we know how we react to
it, we need to distinguish what we are doing to prevent this from happening or
mitigate the effects.
Some of the strategies that help prevent stress are:
• Plan activities prioritizing between them
• Decide between different study techniques
• Eat healthy at stable times
• Practice sports or recreational activities
• Spend time on hobbies and hobbies
• Maintain stable sleep cycles
• Seek help and share with others
• Practice relaxation and deep breathing
• Maintain a sense of humor
• Strive to remain calm and quiet
