Gd PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD, JIS G 3137: 2008 Small diameter steel bars for prestressed concrete 1 Scope ‘This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies steel bars mainly used for prestressed concrete manufactured by pre-tensioning (hereafter referred to as “steel bars”). 2 Normative references ‘The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Standard. Table 2 Designation Designation Timm 6.0mm 100mm 10.7 mm 112mm 126mm 4 Method of manufacture ‘The steel bars shall be manufactured from hot-rolled killed steels by quenching and tempering, The deforming work of applying uniform bumps or dents on the surface of the bars shall be performed during hot-rolling or cold-working. 5 Chemical composition ‘The steel bars shall be tested in accordance with 9.1, and the resultant cast analysis value shall satisfy the requirements in table 3. The steel bars shall have an approximately circular cross-section, and shall be given uniform bumps or dents that are either continuous or spaced with uniform intervals. 7.2 Dimensions and unit mass The nominal diameter, nominal cross-sectional area and unit mass of steel bars shall be in accordance with table 5. Figure 1 shows an example of shape and measurement position of diameter of a stee] bar on which continuous helical grooves have been given. Thus obtained values shall have its fourth significant figure rounded up to three digits according to JIS Z 8401, PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT . 4 G 3187 : 2008 7.3 Straightness ‘The straightness of the steel bar, when it is tested according to 9.4, shall be not more than 80 mm in any 1 m length. 8 Appearance The steel bars shall be free from defects injurious flaws and rust, 9 Tests 9.1 Chemical analysis 9.1.1 General matters of chemical analysis and sampling ‘The chemical composition of steel material shall be determined by the cast analysis, and the general matters of chemical analysis and sampling shall be in accordance with clause 8 of JIS G 0404. 9.1.2 Analysis method ‘The method of analysis shall be in accordance with JIS G 0320. 9.2 Mechanical test 9.2.1 Sampling method The tost pieces shalll be taken according to the following. a) The test piece to be used for the tensile test, mass measurement and straightness test shall be taken from a group of bars of the same cast, same heat treatment, and of the same designation by referring to table 6. The loading velocity shall be within the range specified in Annex A. The test piece used for the tensile test shall be a No.2 test piece specified in JIS Z 2201, b) The proof stress shall be determined by dividing a test load for permanent elongation of 0.2 % by the nominal cross-sectional area (table 6). ) The tensile strength shall be determined by dividing the maximum load during the test by the nominal cross-sectional area (table 5). d) The elongation at breakage shall be determined according to JIS Z 2241. 9.2.3 Relaxation test ‘The relaxation test shall be performed in accordance with JIS Z 2276, except that the temperature shall be the ordinary temperature (20 + 5 °C), and the loading velocity, initial test load, initial test load holding period and relaxation period shall be in accordance with Annex B, 9.3 Measurement of unit mass Measure the mass of at least 20 cm length per piece, of the test piece sampled according to table 6, and convert the measurement result to 1 m length. 9.4 Measurement of straightness Lay the test piece with the least possible restriction to determine the maximum are depth in any 1 m length of the chord. 10 Inspection 10.1 Inspection ‘The inspection of steel bars shall be as follows. a) The general matters of inspection shalll be in accordance with JIS G 0404. b) The chemical composition of steel bars shall satisfy the requirements in clause 5. ) The mechanical properties of steel bars shall satisfy the requirements in clause 6. @ The unit mass and straightness of steel bars shall satisfy the requirements in clause 7, e) The appearance of steel bars shall satisfy the requirements in clause 8. PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT 6 G 8137 : 2008 10.2 Reinspection In the case where the result of the test made on the first test piece fails to conform to the requirements specified in clause 6, retests may be carried out on another test piece taken from the rod or coil from which the first test piece was taken and on two pieces taken from one end of each of other two rods or coils in the same lot. If the results of retests made on these three test pieces conform to all requirements in clause 6, the lot shall be considered to be acceptable. If any of the threo fails to moot the requirements, the lot shall be rejected. 11 Marking The steel bars, for every bundle, shall be marked with the following information by a suitable means. a) Number of this Standard and aymbol of grade b) Designation c) Quantity or mass 4) Identification number of the product e) Manufacturer’s name or its abbreviation 12 Test report The test report shall be in accordance with clause 18 of JIS G 0404. The type of the inspection document, unless otherwise specified, shall be symbol 2.3 (delivery test report) or symbol 3.1 B (inspection certificate 3.1B) in table 1 of JIS G 0415. G 8137: 2008 Annex B (normative) Relaxation test conditions Introduction This Annex specifies the loading velocity, initial test load, initial test load holding period and relaxation period to be applied in the relaxation test. B.1 The loading velocity, initial test load, initial test load holding period and relaxa- tion period to be applied in the relaxation test shalll be as given in table B.1.
