Network Survey Vehicle

The existing Road asset inventory location and condition will be assessed
using a Network Survey Vehicle (NSV). The NSV is an automated data
collection system that picks up the required data in one pass of the road at
normal traffic speed. As to this, it requires no traffic management. The
components of the NSV that are used to collect the attributes are described
below.

IRSM’s NSV is equipped with a fully integrated Hawkeye 2000 data collection
system, consisting of a multi-laser profiler, digital imaging system and a
Gipsitrac unit whose outputs are all linked via a highly accurate distance
measuring instrument.
Capable of producing outputs that include data of road distance, GPS
(PGPS), hidefinition video images, roughness, rutting, texture and
geometry.
The Hawkeye Processing Toolkit software ensures that the survey database
can be reviewed, edited and processed quickly and efficiently. The data
from each module can be compared against other results and exported to
most common GIS and asset management systems

IMAGE:- OFFICE BASED HAWKEYE PROCESSING & ANALYSIS
‘The Hawkeye 2000 Network Survey Vehicle is capable of undertaking the following
analysis:
Road Network Condition cracks and defects with size
Roadside Assets e.g; bridges, culverts sign boards etc
Road Safety analysis,
Geometry detail
Dimensional detail
Correct location of roadside furniture
Asset/Inventory’ locations and subjective condition of the same:
GPS co-ordinates for all logged images:
This equipment will provide the basis and starting point to analyze road conditions
in true sense seeing the real - time picture of the road by the decision maker as the
Hawkeye system captures every snap of a road alignment with all its assets which
will enable benchmarks to be set and informed decisions can be made from that
point forward.
‘APPLICATION:
+ Network and project level road and asset collection surveys
+ Routine pavement monitoring surveys
+ Roadside inventory and asset management
+ Road geometry and mapping surveys
+ Road Safety Assessment
‘The vehicle can be operated at highway speed. Further the data collected will be in
compressed form. All data is processed in an integrated system and is exportable to
.SHP and HDM4 format. The data can also be delivered in xls files, data bases.
Further from the collected data various relevant parameters may also be analyzed
and recorded. The digital form of raw data and reports can be stored for longer
time for further studies.
