PT&D IC commissions the largest auto transformer in the Gulf Region

and lays the first 400 kV cable circuit in Qatar
PT&D IC’s project team at Qatar added two
milestones to its list of powerful benchmarks
by commissioning 800 MVA 400/220 kV auto
transformer for the first time in the Gulf
Region and also laid the first 400 KV cable as
a part of the Phase 12 substation works at
Saliyah Super Substation for Kahramaa on 23rd
May 2018.

This critical and challenging task was

successfully achieved along with the
commissioning of other key equipment such as modification of 400 KV GIS bay, 220 KV GIS bay, 220
KV GIB duct, modification works in bay watch system, transformer monitoring system by integrating
with existing TMS system, 400 KV cable installation, testing & commissioning.

This challenging project was executed adhering to stringent safety and quality standards, in a brown
field environment inside the live 400 KV substation. The project successfully overcame the constraints
of working in live panels to interface with existing system.

The scope of work comprised:

 Supply Installation, Testing & commissioning of 800 MVA, 400/220kV Auto transformer.
 Modification ,Testing & commissioning of 400 KV GIS bay
 Modification ,Testing & commissioning of 220 KV GIS bay
 Supply Installation, Testing & commissioning of 220 KV GIB duct (total length 96Mtr)
 Modification, Testing & commissioning of in bay watch system
 Supply, Installation, Testing & commissioning of New Transformer Monitoring system by
integrating with existing TMS system
 Supply, installation, testing & commissioning of 400 KV 1CX2500 Sqmm cable (520Mtr Total
length).
 Modification of existing Live Protection and SCS system

The project team also had the onus of close coordination with the client M/s Kahramaa Qatar & Project
Consultant M/s Energo Projekt to complete the interfacing works with existing live equipment.
