Work Evolution

Good Afternoon every one and thank you for the opportunity again. The last I
remember I spoke on a topic was when we could be inside a room and
converse face to face. The ‘Work Culture’ obviously seems to have evolved
already and hence that is the topic I have chosen to speak on today.
The term ‘Evolution’ is no new for any of us and ‘Work Evolution’ definitely
not.
We started from Agricultural revolution then progressed to the Industrial
revolution and then to Corporate revolution, we have evolved
and are moving into the ‘New Normal’, which I would like to name it as ‘Virtual
Revolution’
Anybody I speak to these days.. seems to feel unfair since this ‘Work Evolution’
has been imposed on us by Mr. Corona and as humans we hate rules being
imposed without realizing the benefits it brings with it.
To name a few;
We hated imposition of ‘Demonetization’ initially however are now completely
‘In Love’ with our ‘Digital Wallets’
The Pandemic in 1916 led to XXX deaths however is the cause of invention of
‘Vaccinations’.. leading to the great evolution in medical science where
‘Prevention is better than Cure’ concept was adopted
And as we speak.. this pandemic is already making us evolve into a new world
of working norms which we couldn’t have even imagined a couple of months
ago..
This ‘New Normal’ brings with it endless benefits and here are a few of them:
1. Less time spent Commuting : I think almost every one would agree on
this benefit.
2. Improved employee retention: Since working at home gives flexibility to
balance the work and life keeps employee happy and his retention % are
higher.
3. Access to wider pool of resources: This is something we have not yet
tested but yes remote work culture eradicates the geographic constrains
and thus hiring becomes easier.
4. Lower cost : office spaces are second most expensive fixed cost for an
organization. So remote locations can ease out these costs.
5. Increased productivity: There has many researches around this and all of
them have concluded that remote work place increases productivity.
One such research by Stanford quotes the increase in productivity by
13%.

The question now arises is;

1. These benefits may already be known to the experts and industry
leaders then why was this concept never given so much of importance?

Let look
Research says that almost 60% of the employers and surprisingly the same %
of employees do not prefer ‘Work From Home’.
Let’s understand Why??
When our subordinates are working remotely, out of three words from “Work
from home” the focus is only on the word “HOME”.
For many employers working from “HOME” is like:
H – Harmful to Organizational date
O – Organizational control missing
M – Missed Opportunities for collaboration (because for many collaboration
starts in meeting rooms)
E – Employee Entertainment instead of Employee Engagement

This is not it.

Employees has their own challenges at home and
their challenge is WORK.
W – Weak Internet Connectivity
O – Over worked
R – Remoteness from coworkers
K – Kitchen in the mind 
So, both employers and employees have their own set of constraints and
mindset. After all, we are ‘Humans’.
Talking about ‘Humans’. one of the basic characteristics we are born with
Is Adaptability and to contradict this we are also Resistant to change.
But the basic theory of the universe if ‘Change is the only Constant’.
So, we must adapt to the change and create a situation what we call as a ‘Win-
Win’ situation.
Here are some tips to make life and work productive in the WFM
Structure
1. Get Started Early:
2. Choose a dedicated workspace
3. Structure your day like in the office
4. Deal with distraction well
5. Take clear breaks
6. Pick a definitive finishing time
And for the last one;
Have you seen a leopard catching a hare. If not does not matter but make sure
that here the leopard catches the hare. So not much but little of exercise.

Having known the tips of what we should Do. there is only one thing we
shouldn’t do.. and I will let the video do the talking. and conclude…. Thank you
very much ….stay safe.
