The capscrews for mounting the cam follower assembly to the K38 and K5O oylinder blocks have been changed. This
change is being implemented as a result of loosening or breakage of the old capsorews. The new capscrew, Part No.
3177760, Is longer than the old capscrew, Part No. 3002886. The capscrew holes and the oil drilings in the K38 and
50 cylinder block have also been revised. Refer to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 below. The new cylinder block, Part No. 3177785
(K38) and 3177786 (K50), are included in the service cylinder block kits, Part No. 3040187 (K38) and 3040190 (K50).

‘The old capsorew, Fig. 1, has a
special oil groove machined in the capscrew to allow the oil to flow property to the cam
follower assembly. These capé
screws require precise assembly torque to prevent loosening and /or breakage.
The length of the new SAE Grade 8 capscrew is 64 mm [2.5 in]. Both the machining depth of the mounting hole for the
cam follower shaft and the counterbore depth in the cylinder block have been increased. Refer to Fig. 2. The size of
the ring dowel has not changed. The new revised cylinder block machining, eliminates the requirement for the slotted
‘eapscrew, as the oil driling now enters the counterbore portion of the capscrew hole. Refer to Fig. 2.
The new capscrew and cylinder block change was effective with Engine First Serial Number 33112135. The old
capscrew, Part No. 3002886, will be available for service only and must be installed in all engines manufactured prior
to the above mentioned engine first serial number.

Caution: Check the part number of the capscrews. The correct capscrews must be ordered. Engine failure will
result if the wrong capscrews are installed.
