The purpose of the roll (locating) pin was to make sure the cam follower roller pin (brass pin) was positioned correctly for proper lubrication when pressed into the cam follower casting. ‘When rebuilding a cam follower lever without a roll pin, make sure the locator hole in the roller pin (1) is aligned correctly with the locator hole in the cam follower lever casting (2). See Fig. 1. Note: The locator hole (1) must not be confused with the oil feed hole which is offset 180 degrees. To make sure the roller pin is installed correctly, install a 5/64 inch drill bit shank in the cam follower lever casting locator hole. See Fig. 2. The length of the shank that enters the locator hole, as shown in Table 1, will determine if the roller pin is installed correctly.
