DETAILED REPORT ON

“NATIONAL STUDY TOUR - DELHI”

Introduction: The national study tour is the part and parcel of the course. The study tour
started from Pune and the destiny was to Delhi. The Study tour was an essential essence of the
MPG course. Students were eagerly waiting for the moment because studying in the class room
is different from learning things from the life and experience of the politician. We have a
module where we study different biographies of the great personality but the study tour has given
an ample opportunity to interact with the politician and to learn from their experience. This study
tour was more fruitful as the meeting with the politician across the part lines. From young
politician to most experienced politician thus the tour have given a Wholistic approach to gaze
towards politics.

DAY ONE : 13TH MARCH,SESSION 1: SHRI.ASHOK BAJPAI JI

Interaction with Shri. Ashok Bajpai ji, he is member of parliament in Rajya Sabha from Uttar
Pradesh. He was very enthusiastic person and share his experience and and his political journey.
He enlightened us by making ourself to realise that politics is not a profession whereas it is a
kind of service to the nation which has to be done with whole heart, greater determination
needed towards the wellness of the people as well as to the nation. He also said that today’s
scenario made people believe that it is an profession where one can become rich and powerful.
But in fact politics is one which should be service oriented not money and power oriented. He
gave various examples like Ram Manohar Lohia, Jaiprakash Narayan and Mahatma Gandhiji, he
said these are the great leaders who were actually doing politics, their politics was for people, for
poor, for deprived class and for the upliftment of the society. He also stressed upon the politics
which should be issues based other than blind following of ruling-opposition thug. Thus the
upcoming politicians like us should be more innovative and effective in doing politics with a
clean, people oriented mindset. The honourable member was upset with the current scenario of
the politics. He was been with JP and was active member during his andolan. The difference
between those days politics and today’s politics are pole apart, he further stressed. Thus today’s
political behavior needs to be changed and the budding politician should understand these thing
thus this in turn will make a strong demography and a good politics in near future. At the end of
the session various questions were put forth by the students namely, Abhishek, Gopesh, Pranay
kumar and all the questions were answered by the Honourable member which were very
impressive. At the end Samay Soni proposed the vote of thanks.

DAY ONE : 13TH MARCH,SESSION 2: SHRI SANJAY SINGH

Meeting with Sanjay Singh ji, he is a Member of parliament in Rajya Sabha from New delhi, he
is a young and dynamic leader of AAP ,his speech were furious and inspiring. He started with his
journey in public service, to serve the people who were affected by the politics in turn. He also
revealed his political guru named Mr. Ragu Thakur who inspired him a lot to enter into the
politics. His gave a Mantra to us that is if people say politics is a dirty, then you people as a you
youth enter into that and clean that dirt.If good and educated people will stay away from the
politics then ultimately bad and crooked people will rule as the dirt will even get a worse, then
complain again is not the solution. He cleared his political vision, that is the poorest of poor
should be benefitted and uplifted which also reflected in their party’s vision and function. He
gave an example of the free EB and water scheme of AAP government which resulted in the
beneficial to the poorer among poor. His also stressed that to uphold his political vision the
nexus between Corporates and politics should be broken, because corporate policy is always
against the poor and mingle of political corporate is hazardous to the marginalized section.

He also stressed on the importance of reading books regarding Communism, socialism and life
history of great political leaders to understand the political history and the ideology of our nation.
He also targeted right wing party regarding their politics of hate and polarization. He urged us to
follow the politics of development rather than politics of polarization. He welcomed the results
of Delhi election were people have identified the politics of development and voted again them
to power. Because their party was attached to the ground level which in turn made them to
capture the power again with people’s mandate.

Various questions were asked by students and impressive answers were delivered. The session
was ended with vote of thanks by Sambal Jha.

DAY ONE : 13TH MARCH:SESSION 3 : SHRI. FAGGAN SINGH

Dialogue with honourable union minister of steel and commerce, Fagan Singh is an MP in
Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, he belongs to BJP. He shared his life journey and education
journey, he educated from a very small school were no proper library, staff were available. This
made him to work in the education sector, where he ensured that every child should get a good
and quality education. He also made many students to study for free by his efforts. Hailed from
a poor family and non political background he struggled very hard and served people which in
turn made him People’s man in that area. Thus he specified that if we serve people, people will
recognise us. As a politician we need to take care that every citizen should get a basic amenities
which will be a huge contribution which we are making toward a the society. Serving people is
like serving God.
His raise in the politics had many ups and downs, we’re he led many agitation, worked for
marginalised section of the society. His more contribution was seen in the field of Adivasi
community. He gave a mantra that to be successful in the politics one needs to be well connected
to the ground level and should be aware of people’s problem and should take initiative to tackle
those problems. These were the valuable guidance given by him. At the end, various questions
were answered by him which were put forth by students namely, saurabh, Abhishek. The session
was ended by vote of thanks by Akshay.

DAY ONE : 13TH MARCH,SESSION 4: SHRI.BHATRUDI MEHTAAB

Interaction with Bhatrudi Mehtaab, honorable member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha from
Orissa, he belongs to BED. He is a Member of Parliament from Biju Janta Dal representing the
Cuttack Constituency. He is a five term Lok Sabha MP and leader of Biju Janta Dal in The
Parliament and he had also received Outstanding Parliamentarian Award in 2017 and also the
Sansad Ratna Award for his outstanding debates for three Consecutive times since 2017. He is
one the best mind which the parliament has and is very highly intellect. He shared his political
journey and the way he rose to the Member of Parliament seat. He thank his Party and it’s
Supremo Naveenji for the opportunity. He then shared the success story of the BODY which for
almost two decades is ruling that state and has promised the state with jobs, education health care
etc. He was also neutral when came to the performance of the central government. He was bit
harsh on the centre during the cyclone relief fund. He concluded that knowledge rules all, so
equip yourself to that heights. Various questions were asked and his answers were very highly
motivation . The session was ended with the vote of thanks.

DAY 2: 14TH MARCH:SESSION 1: SHRI.MASOODI HASNAIN

Interaction with Masoodi Hasnain, Honourable Member of Parliament from Jammu and
Kashmir. He belongs to National Conference party. Janab Hasnain Masoodi Sahab, is a former
judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and a politician of the Jammu & Kashmir
National Conference. Janab Hasnain Masoodi Sahab presently representing anantnag
parliamentary Constituency and a MP of 17th Lok Sabha. He won against the PWP’s Mehbooba
Mufti. He started his interaction with his personal life and then about his career. He hailed from a
middle class and non- political background, he had his education from Tamilnadu and went to
get degree in law from famous Harvard University. He had a very high career in the legal field.
He was a high court judge in Jammu and Kashmir. His constituency had very low turnout voting
percentage and the political situation around him forced him to serve the nation through politics.
He enlightened as by sharing his three valuable P's they are passion, perseverance and patience.
One needs to be passionate towards his goals, should have a perseverance and patience until you
reach that goals.

These are the success mantra which he followed in his life. Thus he gave an pathways to the
budding politician like us to follow to have a successful life ahead. Apart from this he also
shared his opinion on the Abrogation of Article 370, it’s history, accession instrument,
agreement between Hari singhji and Patel ji, Role of Sheikh Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah. He
also explained their party political stand and their ongoing struggle in the court related Articles
370. Various questions were put forth by students namely Khalid, Shantung, Arvind and Sambal
on the topic of Juvenile justice Board, heinous crime like rape, abduction etc. On Kashmiri
Pandits and his election experience against Mufti. He answered all the questions very effectively
and the session ended with the Vote of thanks by Zakria Sultan.
DAY 2: 14TH MARCH: SESSION 2 : NAPM

NAPM – it’s an non governmental organization which works for many social issues and organise
many social movements across the nation. The meeting was held with Sajeev ji who was the
convenor of the organization and Ravinder kumar. The interaction started with the history and
nature of the organization. Both of them shared the previous works, efforts and their success.
The organization is of twenty five years old. The NAPM stands for national alliance people’s
movement. The birth of the organization is the result of the agglomeration of 200 different social
movements. It works as an umbrella for different movement. Which means the organization is
not only focusing on a single issue but covers wide ranges of issue and organize mass
movements on different problems. The organization works on the ground level to identify the
intensity of problem and mobilise resources according to their needs. Their main focus is on the
adivasi area development and extends to farmer, environment etc.. The convenor also explained
their achievement like Narmada bacho aandolan, Ghar bhachao ghar banao movement etc..

The organization enlighten us by sharing the importance of a social movements it’s impact and
their benefits. They explained as that politics is of two types- one is within party and another
one is outside party. And the organization is working as a pressure group outside of the party.
Meanwhile Mr. Anil has also joined the meeting, is the director of Delhi forum and has shared
his experience with the organization. He is currently working on the issues like Urban
Gardening, Catering services in Railways, high ways issue etc.. Thus the organization helped as
to understand the importance of a NGO in politics and importance of social movements.

DAY 2: 14TH MARCH: SESSION 3: SMT.GIRIJA VYAS

Interaction with Girija Vyas: she is an Ex- Member of parliament and also served as State
cabinet minister. She bongs to Indian National Congress and she hails from Rajasthan. She was
president of National commission for women and have contributed a lots towards the upliftment
of women. She started her discussion from her early life till her political journey. She belonged
to a well to do family and was well educated. The atrocities against the women have pulled her
to join politics to work for the betterment of women’s situation in the society. She had a firm
believe and wanted that men and women should be equal in all the fields thus she is an active
supporter of 33 percent reservation. Thus she encouraged as to set a goal and starts to work on it
to achieve that Politics is not a easy cake walk but it’s one of the hardest thing and for women it
is even more harder. Therefore keeping a goal and achieve that is the simple plan to be
successful.
Apart from this she also spoke about the future of Congress and how the present Government is
failed to fulfill the promises which they gave to people. She is the incharge for Congress
Sandesh. She was very happy to see budding young politician and she encouraged many youths
to join politics. She also remembered late Rajiv Gandhiji that how he was forerunner to bring
youth into the politics to change the worse situation. She also explained that how the party is
working on the rejuvenation process of the Congress and its decline needs to be projected high.
She is focusing on technology, training cells for the youth and to the NSUI a student wing. At the
end various question were asked by Nidhi, Gopesh, Arvind and pranay and got splendid answer
from the veteran. At the conclusion Arvind Sharma has proposed vote of thanks.

DAY 2: 14TH MARCH: SESSION 4: SHRI. D. RAJA

Meeting with D. Raja, Mr. D Raja, former Rajya Sabha member and general secretary of
CPI. He was born in Gudiyatham, vellore district, Tamilnadu. He has said that he was very
vibrant during his education and was involved in many protest and agitation. During his
adolescent days, Tamil Nadu was in phase where many different ideologies were emerging like
Dravidian, communist etc. He was more inclined towards communism and has choose to be a
part of Communist party of India. He also enlighten us on the role of communist Party in the
freedom struggle and how they were able to establish first communist government in democratic
setup. They won Kerala elections in 1950s.
Apart from this he also stressed upon the contribution of Congress and right wing organization’s
contribution. Thus he gave an wholistic view regarding the different ideologies. During the
meeting he strongly advocated that the media has lost its ethics and misguided the people. He
also blamed how media has become a ruling party propagandist. He strongly condemned ruling
party and it’s misuse of media. Being a communist he believes that sedition law which is a
colonial law needs to be strike down. Because it has been misused by the ruling government to
suppress the voice of the people, dissent etc. Thus he raised his concern regarding that. Then he
came down to the reasons and history regarding the fraction of communist Party. The has said
that they have a minute ideological clashed among them that led to the difference and eventually
the breaking of the communist Party. Various question were put forth by the students and were
answered. The interaction between the students and Mr. D Raja was a good learning experience
and the vote of thanks was proposed by Sambhal Jha of MPG-15 and the session ended with a
group photo.

DAY 2: 14TH MARCH: SESSION 5: SHRI.KHODABHAI RUPALA

Interaction with Partitas Khodabhai Rupala , Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj,
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. He was a member of Rajya Sabha, representing the Indian
state of Gujarat and a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was a former member of Gujarat
Legislative Assembly from Amreli and formerly served as a minister in Government of Gujarat.
He inspired the student by his simplicity and started to share his experience from his youth days
till becoming a minister.
He wanted to teacher but his friends forced him to join politics. He become head of the town for
five years and again wanted to take up his teaching profession but again his friend forced him to
again join politics. So he does not wanted to become politician but become due to his destiny.
He welcomed the initiative by SOG to train the budding youth for a clean politics. His shared his
ministry works like, He excellently provided details of the kishan credit card, He told about the
misson 2022 - the target set by PM Modi ji to double the income of farmers, sir spoke on the
issues of farmers suicide, how opposition using the issue to dominate the government, but in
reality the situation is different , He shared his relations with Prime Minister Modi ji and
qualities of Modi ji in politics. He earger to imbibe two qualities of Modi ji - one, time
management and two, work only on those tasks that could be completed,he also told about the
new inventions in the field of Agriculture and the opportunities for youth in agriculture. Various
question were asked by students namely, Shantung, Aneesh, Abhishek, khalid and saurabh. At
the end of the session Shantanu Bundela proposed vote of thanks.

DAY 3: 15TH MARCH: SESSION 1: RAMESH BIDHURI

Interaction with Ramesh Bidhuri, He is a Member of parliament from South Delhi, he belonged
to BJP. He holds the position of "Chairperson" (standing committee petroleum and natural gas).
He was very dynamic in his speech and inspired the students. He was very active even when we
were on meeting people were waiting for him. He emphasized that , Leaders are not developed
they are born trait. He emphasised that leader needs to be nourished u cannot become leader by
studying. " Will power, thought and determination" should be developed.

Importance of RSS in his life: He gave his credit for his success to RSS. He said RSS is the one
which made him a person of good character., he told that RSS is the organization which is
focused on individual character building and national building. It teaches the person to be ideal
one and contribute towards the society in one way of the others for its growth. Thus he credited
that RSS created him and he will serve for its ideology which is not against a particular section,
religion.

Nobody can beat anyone merit in the inner politics: He gave an mantra of hardworking,
determination and dedication. He said that if one has an merit nobody can ignore them in
politics. He stressed the words “Karam karo faal melega” don’t expect just do your part and
result will be automatically fruitful,he also said politics is not a profession, it’s a social service.

His students politics career: He recalled his starting of his political career from students politics
to national politics. During his studies, he was involved in the students wing of RSS in ABVP, he
won his election in college and went on to become member of DU student welfare executive
Committee. Then from that onwards he went on to enter into BJP and bagged his ticket for
MLA from 1993,1998,2003,2008 and bagged a ticket for Lok Sabha in 2009.

His view on Delhi election: BJP internal politics was one of the main reason for the defeat of the
party in the Delhi election. He also informed that caste politics in the issuing of tickets was also
one of the reason for the under performance of the party. He told that the apex body have not
seen the ground reality and relied upon the party state head words which were malicious about
the other leaders. He also added that party head was more focused upon the purvanchal votes this
made lesser focus on other community. He also added that party should have started to work 8
to 10 months ago for election but instead of that they started very late to prepare for the election.
The role of councillor and mayor was not efficient and they have not converted their vote bank
into BJP side. The failure of the councillors to highlight their successful works and to show AAP
failure was not up to the mark. Thus he said that the internal politics of BJP is responsible for the
party defeats.

Sarthak Saoji, Gopesh Chaudhri and Nemish lakhewar - all participants of MPG 15 - asked

DAY 3: 15TH MARCH: SESSION 2: NAZIR AHMAD ILLYAZ

Interaction with Nasir Ahmad Ilyaz, he is the Member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir.
He belongs to People’s Democratic Party. He interacted with the students by emphasing on two
things. Firstly, one should have role model that can be in any field and applicable to all the
person. Because a good role model can give a god pathway towards a successful life and career.
As a student is incomplete with the Guru, a successful man is incomplete without a good role
model. Therefore opting a good role model is essential for a successful life. Secondly, he
emphasized that everyone should have a strong will power. Will power is the one which can rail
against all tides and makes a man successful in his goals.
Thus role model and will power are the two key ingredients which one needs to possess. And in
the next part he explained what are the things one should not possess. He indicated that one
should not have Ego as it is the source for all evils and can ruins once position and name.Thus
having a good education and understanding people’s sentiment is the key factor for a successful
life and career. Before indulging into anything one needs to understand the whole situation and
react according to that. Thus this session was bit of a philosophical one for a good political life.

He also mentioned the supportive behaviour of army, he also said about the development of
Kashmir eetc. Gopesh chaudhary, pranay Kumar, Nidhi kejriwal and Arvind Sharma - all
participants of MPG 15 asked the question. And Mohmmad Khalid proposed vote of thanks.

DAY 3: 15TH MARCH: SESSION 3: JNU STUDENT’S UNION

Interaction with Jawaharlal Nehru University student's union – The meeting was arranged to
learn how students politics and students body affect the external politics. The JNU students
union is on lime light always and the union body have given the reasons for that. The
representative Saket has explained the recent attack on the president of students union and
various others issues related to that. He also explained that how these unions are playing a
crucial role in the shaping of the education system at the higher level. He explained the
importance of the union and students movement which is very important to be carried in all the
university. The meeting was very short and few questions and answers were exchanged. At last
it was a fruitful discussion to learn politics from the students point of view.

DAY 3: 15TH MARCH: SESSION 4: SHRI. RAJMANI PATEL

Interaction with Rajmani patel, He is Member of Parliament (Rajyasabha) from MadhyaPradesh


Indian National Congress, he inspired with his experience and long journey in the political
journey. The conversation with Shri Patelji mainly tended to emphasize upon the ethical and
moral principle into politics that one shall have and cherish for the benefit of all whom an
individuals represents. The MP highlighted upon the fact that the development should be
inclusive and a politician shall keep their close contact with the locals and taking care of their
culture and tradition.
Freedom movement: He recalled the freedom movement and gave a lime light on the unsung
heroes of the movement. He told that there were many marginalised section of society who
contributed for the independence. Those sections were Tribals, OBC's etc. He told that recalling
the freedom movement will bring the importance ideas of which our founding father's were
dreamt about, it will also gives the way the politics need to be carried forward.

Ethnics in politics: He expressed his grief that in today's scenario politics is seen as a Profession
but people have forget that it is a social service to the society. People joins politics to gain name
and fame but the ultimate goal of the politics is forgotten during the course of time. He also told
the students that entering into the politics one needs to decide Goals and commitment and the
politics of purity needs to be professed. He also underlined that the difference between old
politics of post independence and pre independence is poles apart. Before the independence the
politics was committed towards the welfare of country and it's people but in the contemporary
politics most of them seeks the personal gain and the collectives is forgotten.

Need of youth participation: As every other leaders emphasised the need of the youth in politics,
he also told that youth needs to engage into the politics otherwise politics will impact them more
negatively thus he encourages youth to join politics with a clear ideological preference, sets goal
to achieve for the society, dedication and determination. He gave reason for the youth
participation in politics is that, in the current rapid changing world the youth's are more
informed and they have a clear ideas to take forward.

Electoral reforms: He emphasized on the election reforms which needs to under take. In today’s
political scenario, money and muscle plays an important role and thus malpractice have been a
big part in the elections. Thus he told that election reforms needs to be undertaken and strict
measure needs to be implemented.

Congress stand and future: He also explained that Congress party has been undertaking
rejuvenation process and the internal organisation has been taking a strong nod. He is believing
that Congress has a strong future and can win the election in 2024. And tha party is planning
according to that. At the end, various question were raised by Shantanu Bundela, Paras
Sonawane, Zakria. Gopesh Chaudhari proposed Vote of Thanks on behalfof MIT Family.

DAY 3: 15TH MARCH: SESSION 5: SHRI. KAMAKHYA PRASAD

Interaction with shri. Kamakhya Prasad. He is currently Member of parliament in Rajya Sabha
since 14 June 2019. He was member of parliament to the 16th Lok Sabha from Jorhat, Assam. He
won the 2014 Indian general election being a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate.

He told us about his initial life in politics and about his family and social background. He joined
BJP in the year of 2004 just like any other party Karya karta. He fought two vidhan Sabha
elections but lost but he didn’t give up and finally became a Lok Sabha Member from the Jorhat
seat, Assam in the year 2014. He considers himself as a political by fate as he never thought of
becoming a politician but how his circumstances brought him into politics. The huge inequality
around him trigger him to join politics but after entering politics he learned about the factionism
and dirty mind games about politics. He told us that how much he is concerned as he believes
that sponsored politics is ruining the politics culture of his state, Assam.

On our respected prime minister, he stated that how well Narendra Modiji has an eye on all the
people, be it of his own party or of opposition parties. He enlightened us that how much
systematically the central government is working to benefit the last man in the line.On divisive
or hatred politics Mr. Prasad’s stand was clear like anything. He firmly believes that the people
of the country should use their own brain and knowledge to understand and analyse situations
instead of blindly following anyone’s words. He guided the students that how serious the
profession of politics is and how much mentally and emotionally strong one should make himself
to survive in the profession of politics. Paras Sonawane, Syed Zakaria raised various question
and all we’re well answered, the session was ended with the vote of thanks by Vishal Dutta.

DAY 4 :16TH MARCH: SESSION 1: G. KISAN REDDY

Interaction with G. Kishan Reddy, he is an Union Minister of State for Home Affairs
Government of India representing Secunderabad parliamentary constituency. He had a very busy
schedule and our meeting got delayed by one hour, then we came to know that he just arrived in
the morning from his constituency and didn’t had a good sleep. This showed that how much a
politician needs to dedicate his time and how much he needs to sacrifice. This for a budding
politician like us it was a message without any uttering of words. He started his interaction with
his life and the struggle which he came across during his political career. He use to spend his
time at the party office from his youth days and explained us how much we need to dedicate.
Every politician does not have the same pathways, it gets different with different politician. Thus
there is only one mantra is to dedicate your time and hardwork. For becoming a politician, one
needs to have a good organization bonding and strengthening the organization will leads to
achieve great heights. He had interacted regarding his life how he became successful from
ground level to central minister. How his agitations against government during 2003 regarding
death of infants in telangana and also the conducting world youth conference against terrorism
program.He also shared that every politician’s first priority should be Contribution towards
development of Nation and everything next. Students were eager to ask their question namely,
Zakria, Pranay and Gopesh and all were satisfied with the reply. Arvind concluded the session
with a vote of thanks.

DAY 4 :16TH MARCH: SESSION 2: ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA

Mr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar Deputy Election Commissioner of India addressed the students
started by the Introductory film by Election Commission since the beginning of the first Election
process in India to the recent times giving various facts and details .About the procedures of
elections. After the film he started discussion with Article 324 to 329 about independent
authority of Election Commission of India. He told us about Universal Adult franchise which
speaks about the citizen .Should be above the age of 18 to have Right to Vote without any
discrimination.

He have answered to all the questions putforth by students namely Nidhi kejerwal, Pranay
Kumar, Syed Zakria,Nemish, Saurabh Bhaskar, Gopesh, Akshay regarding NOTA and he asked
us to refer ADR article for further details. Handling issues related to Booth Capturing. New
strategy like appointing special observers. Issues involved between linkages of Aadhaar and
Voter ID. Election Education has initiated for forthcoming election in all constituency in order to
reach masses for voting awareness. Importance of voter’s day and its celebration. Problems of E-
voting and PRS system, if they occur in the future. Single Voter helpline- 1950. Entire electoral
datas of the country available in Single database/platform. Issues involved regarding Electronic
Voting Machine (EVM). The session has been ended with vote of thanks by Arvind s.

DAY 4 :16TH MARCH: SESSION 3: SHRI. VINAY TENDULKAR:

Interaction with Shri. Vinay Tendulkar is the Member of Parliament of Rajya Sabha from Goa
and current State President of BJP Goa. He explained his whole journey how we quit his job and
joined politics also shared his struggle in politics and how he worked for mining people. Also he
talked about RSS and his experience and the effect of RSS in his life of being punctual time
bound and desciplined. He also spoke regarding the developments and tourism in Goa and
various Infrastructure projects on going in Goa. He emphasized that youngster needs p identify
our position in any political party and put it in the place to check whether it suits or not. How to
work hard and get to be recognized by Party. Importance of Theoretical and academic
knowledge and how it will help when we go to practical work. We have to keep updating
ourselves every day. How to frame any matters or issues for political orientation.

DAY 4 :16TH MARCH: SESSION 4: JAVED ALI KHAN

Interaction with Javed Ali Khan, he is a Member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh belongs to
Samajwadi Party..He was actively involved in student politics and was elected as the General
Secretary of the Jamia Millia Islamia Student Union. He was very enthusiastic and wanted to
know why the students have adopted this course, their Aim and vision. After getting this answer
he told that one needs to have a clean image which will lead to a good acceptance among people
and within party organization.
Having a cordially relationship within party will leads to good reputation and becomes an
important personality that no one can neglect. He also told how important education is when it
comes to politics because a well educated politician can bring up a positive change and can work
more effectively and efficiently towards people and also suggested to stay connected to the
ground and carry a clean image throughout the career. This he throughout the meeting
emphasized that the education is the tool which can win any battle. At the end he spoke about
various problems and inefficiencies of current government both at the centre and in Uttar
Pradesh. Various questions were asked by Zakria, Khaleed and Judah and reply were amazing

DAY 4 :16TH MARCH: SESSION 5: SHRI. ALPHONES K.J

Interaction with K J Alphons is an Ex Civil Servant, Member of Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan
And former Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Culture and Tourism. Following are
the important points made by Alphons Joseph Kannanthanam in his interaction with participants:

A) Authority of power is derived from the voters thus the arrogance regarding the power in the
politics is of no use because the same Voters can bring down the leader and can break their
arrogance by voting them out of power. Thus politician should always remember people are
their masters and their actions are accountable to their voters.
B) He put forth a question “why the participants wants to enter into the politics” And at the end
he made the participant to to realize that the very purpose for a person to enter into politics is to
make a positive difference in the stakeholders lifestyle and for this one needs to be more focused
and determine towards their commitment. He also emphasised that one should use their authority
very effectively in the welfare process which have a larger impact on the livelihood of many
section of marginalized society. He being from the bureaucratic background gave an Wholistic
approach regarding both politics and administrative works.

C) He also said that politics is not a profession or a business but indeed it’s a service to the
mankind, this is a service if done with passion can change the lifestyle of many people and thus
indeed reflects as the success of their, thus the ultimate traits which an budding politician needs
to develop is to commit themselves to do politics for the poor, depressed, marginalized people
instead of safeguarding the elite people’s illegal activities. He promised for his support in future
too as well as discussion whenever required. Indeed it was a fruitful and experience-gaining

DAY 4 :16TH MARCH: SESSION 6: SHRI. P.L.PUNIA

Interaction with P. L. Punia, is a Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. He is a
Dalit leader in the Indian National Congress and was also Chairman of National Commission of
Schedule Castes. He belongs to a middle class family and had a good education. He was very
happy by seeing the youth who are eager to join the politics and wants to bring change. He
remembered late Rajiv Gandhiji who was very keen to make youths to join the politics and lead
to change the society for the betterment of the nation.
He shared his life experience and said that he was not a ground level worker and was not
associated with the ground level party workers which was a fault, and he emphasized that having
a good connection at the bottom of the party structure is more important and cn fetch more
bargaining power to ask for a ticket from the party for the election. He advised students not to
get trap to the myth that politics is all about name, fame, money and power but it is really hard in
reality and politics is not everyone’s cup of tea. Various questions were asked and every answer
made us to think deeply. The session was ended with vote of thanks.

DAY 5 :17TH MARCH:SESSION1:SHRI.NANDKUMAR SINGH CHAUHAN

Interaction with shri Nand kumar singh Chauhan member of parliament from khandwa (Madhya
Pradesh). From his personality one can judge that he is vast experienced person in the politics.
He welcomed all the students participant and wanted to know what actually attracted the students
to join this particular course. He cleared the myth regarding politics that it is money and power
poured. In politics there are many hidden struggle and pain which one needs to overcome to
reach to a greater heights. He shared his experience of political journey from a chairman of
Municipal Corporation to 6 times Member of parliament, he was also 3 times Member of
Legislative Assembly and president of BJP state unit. He said that he one needs to system his
political career from the bottom so that he knows the problem of the people and can resolve it, to
be more appealable.
Truth and simplicity are the two gems which he carried throughout his life and these things were
acquired from the college days. To be a successful politician one needs to have a good
connection with the ground level party workers and he has mastered it. He said that he
remember each and every worker who keeps his vote safe and also guides them to reach a good
position in their life.

Taking care of the workers will eventually make your pathway towards election half success.
Thus a biggest insight he has given to students is to maintain a good relationship with the party
workers. Development & people safety is his main concern. This is the most important thing yo
be ensured, he said, in politics.

DAY 5 : 17TH MARCH: SESSION 2 :ELECTION COMMISSION MUSEUM

Everybody has been to various museums related to history architecture etc. But a Jesus
dedicated to the election system was a unique one. The museum was a initiate taken by the
election commission of india to showcase the effort of the commission which conducted
elections 1950 bill date. The museum had different kind of things to gaze for the visitors.

It was displaying the heritage of the election Commission how they have kept alive the
democracy of the nation. In the museum we have seen the different types of voting system from
paper ballot to EVM, different parties and their performance during election. The counting
method of the votes and the hardship in the ages where technology had less influence. It is a
worth watching museum which everyone needs to visit and appreciate the heritage of our
election commission of India.

The museum displayed various things. Electoral Management section consists of information
regarding every aspect of election procedure. Right from the registration as elector to the
counting of result and return of elections has been displayed. Elections of President, Vice-
President and Rajya Sabha are also detailed. The use of indelible ink is highlighted through
exhibits which suggest that this is now being used in more than 25 countries in the world.
DAY 5 : 17TH MARCH: SESSION 3: SHRI. SITARAM YECHURY

Interaction with Sitaram Yechury, he belongs Communist Party of India (Marxist) . Mr. Yechury
is currently holding General Secretary of Communist Party of India ( Marxist ). He initiated his
interaction with explaining the ideological battle which a communist Party stands for. He
briefed about his life and experience of his political journey and the struggle in the course of
time. He encouraged the students to enter into the Politics but with a clean and good
understanding of a ideology. He believes that politics should be based on ideology and clashed of
ideology brings good out of democracy. He well explained about functions and nature of
Government in each level as well as Constitution especially Preamble. He elaborated the
thoughts and Ideologies of CPM.

He discussed the current issues such as Unemployment, religious polarisation by the right wing
party and the right wing group. He strongly advocated that the current government is incapable
and have destroyed the democratic values. Freedom of speech and expression has been curtailed
and media have lost its ethics. He admitted that the downfall of Congress is because the leftist
party have not been able to mingle with them. But still by their own left wing association and
union they are still fighting ideologically with the right wing groups. Then various questions
were raised by students namely, Nidhi kejriwal, Bishal Dutta, Syed Zakria,Khalid Mohammed,
Arvind Sharma. The session ended with vote of thanks by Arvind S.

DAY 5 : 17TH MARCH: SESSION 4: SHRI. HANUMANTHAIAH

Interaction with Lankappa Hanumanthaiah, He is a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha from


Karnataka. He is Member of the INC and a renowned Dalit poet. Every students we’re
astonished when we saw him coming in a rented cab from Parliament being in politics for so
many years. He was very simple and generous. He was very enthusiastic to interact with the
students and was very pleased with the Concept of SOG. He appreciated the efforts of the
college to train youths to enter into the politics. He started his interaction with the experience of
his life and the struggle which he has faced through that time.

He belonged to very poor family but education have lifted him to the heights. Thus he gave
much importance to the education sector and started to work in that field. He is a renowned poet
and use to encourage people by his poetry. He explained that to be a successful person in
politics one need to have a good relationship with the party worker and ground level connection
with the people is an essential part of that. Thus picking up the pulse of the people is very much
important to have a good journey in the politics. Politics should be issue based and following this
mantra will takes a person to higher position. Many students namely Judah, Gopesh and pranay
have got clarification with their doubts and Zakria have ended the session with vote of thanks.

DAY 5 : 17TH MARCH: SESSION 5: SHRI. RAOSAHAB DANVE

Interaction with Raosahab Danve, He is an Union Minister of State of consumer affairs, Food
and Public distribution. He belongs to BJP, he hosted a mini party at his residence for the
students as he was very eager and enthusiastic to interact with the young minds. He started his
interaction with his political journey which was started at the age of 20, in a local body election
from then to MLA election and in the insisting by Pramod Mahajan to the election of Member of
Parliament. He belonged to very poor family but education paved the way to him. He has
contested 25 elections from Grampanchayat to member of parliament and won 24 out of them.He
is the one of the few leader’s who empowered BJP in ground level. He also worked with late
pramod mahajan and Gopinath munde in Maharashtra BJP.

One can’t win election only on work basis, your daily relations with people decides the
possibility of winning elections, thus having a good relationship with that Karyakartha needs to
be developed so that half of the votes are already in the pockets without canvassing. One needs
to develop the Communication skills which is the key of success in politics,Your walking,
talking and behaviour, in short the personality of the person decides his destiny. For achieving
success and reaching goals in every field, you should take experience. Experiences prepare us to
tackle all the situations in your way. In organization, your approach should be same every time,
which should be equivalent to your own contesting elections. Various questions were put forth
by the students namely, Sarthak, Paras and Abhishek and all we’re happy to get their doubt clear.

DAY 5 : 17TH MARCH: SESSION 6: SHRI.RAMDAS ATHAWALE

Interaction with Ramadas Athawale, is a Union Minister of State for Social Justice and
Empowerment and President of Republican Party of India (A). He is a senior Buddhist,
Ambedkarite and Dalit leader of Maharashtra. He had interacted Regarding his life how he
became successful from ground level to Union Minister. How he has that ability to involve
others by his communication and Was able to see his sense of serious politics.

His grassroots level struggle which Is unknown to common citizen, people are only able to see
his Rajya Sabha and Ministry. His style of honest politics within political poetry makes him very
Popular among big leaders. He is aware that his party doesn’t stand currently in Indian politics
but best thing is he is aware of it and because of that he is able to Create nuisance value. Also we
came to know about his broad perspective when It comes to social and economical up liftment he
believes not only schedule Caste but all the classes must be included in it. But he also stated that
the Schedule Caste community is very strong across the country and in government .Formation
their support is must.
DAY 6: 18TH MARCH: SESSION 1: SHRI. CP THAKUR

Interaction with CP Thakur, he is a Rajya Sabha member and ex union minister of India. He
belongs to BJP. He experiences in the politics is more than our age. His experience was
reflected in his words and the way he conveyed the message. He had contributed enormous to
the society and his work of counter the KalaAzar disease got appreciations. He has been awarded
with Padma Shri. He has shared his life experience that from a non-political background he rose
to the prominent position. For this he has said the golden line that hardworking never fails, if
you are continuously putting your efforts it does not go into vain.

Therefore hard work has no substitute and success needs only one ingredient that is hard work.
He told about his life how despite being unwell he continued in his work and went abroad to get
a higher level education. Important things he said to become a good politician is that one must be
ground connected and know and feel the problem of people and try to solve it and there is a need
of educated youths in politics these days. Various questions were asked to him by Pranay Kumar
,Mayuresh and Gopesh Chaudhari and the session was ended with Pranay's vote of thanks. It was
very fruitful interaction as we were able to learn many things from the stalwart like home and we
are indeed very happy with his response. Across the party lines he broke the barrier and was
appreciating various good things of opposition to.
DAY 6: 18TH MARCH: SESSION 2: SHRI. PRADYUT BORDOLOI

Interaction with Pradyut Bordoloi , he is the Member of Parliament Lok Sabha from Nowgong
Constituency Assam from INC. He was also a Minister in the State Government. He was very
astonished by hearing the concept of SOG and welcomed the initiative of the MITWPU to train
youngsters to enter into that politics. He also appreciated students that many wants to become
Bureaucrats but this batch wants to become politicians. He asked the students to learn and
acquire good knowledge, because wisdom is the one which is respected a lot. He started his
journey from the students body and went on to become the Member of parliament. He said that
his journey was very tough and he had to fight very hard to win election. The major threat was
the ULFA and being a member of NSUI in the initial stage was very challenging.

Many students asked his opinion on the CAA and he cleared his stance from the Assam Accord
to till date. And he also blamed the current government for playing with the emotions of the
Assamese people. He also mentioned that politics must be ,Multidisciplinary in nature and he
gave his views on good governance. When Asked about Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, he explained
about his character, Qualities and about people’s perception regarding him and also shared his
view On CAA. He also mentioned about anti-incumbency in Assam there party ruled ,For 15
years but due to ineffective organisation they didn’t come to power. He Also mentioned about
his idea of working or doing job before coming into Politics, the complexities of Indian strata.
Various questions were asked to him by the students and answers were very thought provoking.

DAY 6: 18TH MARCH: SESSION 3: SHRI. IMTIAZ JALEEL

Interaction with Imtiaz Jaleel, is an Member of parliament from Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha.
He belongs to AIMIM party. His journey towards the Parliament was very surprising and and
termed as a little bit luck. He was journalist based in Pune and due to decline in the journalist
ethics he was not enjoying his work. So he decided to drop the journalism job and go to his
hometown. When he went to his constituency he saw the situation in the area is too worse and
the elections were on the coming months. He jokingly said to his friend to contest election in the
upcoming elections but in turn his friend encouraged him to contest.

This incident made a spark on him and he contested the election with the ticket of AIMIM party
and eventually won. The shared his hardworking, toughness and dedication which he put forth
for the last 20 days to canvass. He does not have proper support and previous experience but
still his hard work paid him and won the election. He emphasized that, one needs strong will
power and hard work to achieve things in life and for shining in politics one need good ground
level connection with people and win their hearts. Many questions were put forth by the students
and the session ended with the vote of thanks by Khaleed.
DAY 6: 18TH MARCH: SESSION 4: SHRI. RAJENDRA AGARWAL

Interaction with Rajendra Agarwal, is a Member of Parliament Lok Sabha from Meerut
Constituency. He is the Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances ,And is also a
member of Panel of Chairpersons of Lok Sabha. He had also been President of the BJP
Intellectual Cell Uttar Pradesh. He has been an active Parliamentarian with 98% attendance and
participating in 160 debates and also Proposed eight Private Member’s Bill.

He also said politician is not only a person Sitting in Lok Sabha or Legislative Assembly ,any
person who is able to raise His/her voice for community is a politician. He also said to always
focus on Politics for needy, politics of good dead, good action, and virtue will lead to Success.
Simplicity in politics is must, he also displayed it by saying he is still a Party worker and youth
must join politics as like other career, he/she must do Politics of ideology. He attracted the
students with his speech and the answers and the session ended with the vote of thanks.

DAY 6: 18TH MARCH: SESSION 5: SHRI. AMAR PATNAIK

Dr. Amar Patnaik is a Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha from Odisha from Biju Janta Dal. He
was an Indian Audit and Accounts services officer and Former principal account general of West
Bengal and Kerala. He is the general Secretary of BJD and heads the IT wing of the party and
also a spokesperson of BJD. He also shared his experience that once he raised voice in front of
many Member of Parliaments and sat in front of their gates .Demanding development and
betterment of people which shows his tough Will power and determination to work for people.
He also said that one must stay Well connected to grounds and maintain family like relations
with people as we Are here to represent them not to live in comfort.

DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 1: SHRI. SRIKRISHNADEVARAYALU

Meeting with srikrishnadevarayalu : the meeting was schedule with srikrishnadevarayalu at


western court avenue , he is a MP from narsaraopeta in andhrapradesh and an MP from YSR
congress. He is one of the young parliamentarian in Loksabha. He welcomed the SOG initiative
for providing a platform for the youngsters to enter into politics with a good understanding and
knowledge. He also encouraged the students and appreciated their efforts to join this course. He
discussed his struggles in the political life and how difficult was it for him to win the Guntur
parliamentary election. He emphasized that everybody wants an egalitarian society but in politics
caste factor plays a vital role and one needs to understand that factor in order to win the seat in a
election. He later discussed on caste dynamics in politics and gadapa gadapaku YSR which is
programme to mobilize party workers and leaders to campaign on NAVARATNALU which are
YSR party manifesto promises. He even shared his experiences in Jagan padayatra in his
district. He even discussed about surrogacy bill with us.

Various questions were put forth by the students regarding the budget on education in central
government and the reason government is not allocating sufficient funds on educational sector
and he explained about how state government is spending 11% of budget on education in the
state of Andhra Pradesh and told us about the schemes of YSR vidyadeevena, fee
reimbursement and Amravati schemes which are implemented by Andhra government on large
scale. Students asked about the investments in Andhra and he explained how media is creating
misinformation and explained the financial condition of Andhra Pradesh and its inability to built
capital from scratch. He even answered to the question that difficulties faced by the youngsters
in politics and difficulty in controlling cadre and making people accept a young leader. He
even told about the implementation of Navaratnaalu schemes. The session was ended with the
vote of thanks by the student participant.
DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 2: SMT. PRENEET KAUR

Interaction with Smt. Preneet Kaur, She is a current Member of Parliament Lok Sabha from
Patiala from INC. She was also Union Minister of State for External Affairs and wife of
Amarinder Singh who is the current Chief Minister of Punjab. She also founded an institution
called Sanjeevani for differently abled children. She told her political journey right from her first
election of General Elections 1999. We had an amazing discussion with her about how she
differentiated between social and political works. Then she gave us the message of having
Compassion for everyone and thinking for the humanity.

Most important part was that the world is growing rapidly, but in this rapidly growing world,
humanity should also progress with same speed. An interactive session filled with practical
lessons of life and the main message given was to work very hard with dedication and have
discipline to accomplish anything in your life. She said reduce your hope and put more effort in
Politics. She asked to study a lot. Various questions were asked by the students and she elegantly
answered all the questions. The session ended with a vote of thanks.

DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 3: SHRI. DEEPAK BAJI

Interaction with Deepak Baji He is the current Member of Parliament Lok Sabha from Bastar
constituency from INC. His constituency is one of the Tribal constituency which is reserved for
Schedule Tribes and is a backward area. He is a very common man and came from a very
common background. He shared his life experience that how being from a poor family he came
to parliament. He thanked the INC for having faith on him and to give ticket. He said that the
success which he got was because of his humble attitude towards the people. He said that he use
to roam around the constituency, listen to people’s probelm and gave solution and tried to solve
it. This made him people’sman and was well welcomed by the people.

He said that he was working for the welfare of the tribal communities which were marginalized
and took efforts to resolve their problem. He was also involved in the education sector so that
adivasi people gets their rights in the education sector. He concluded with a golden line that
hardworking cannot be substituted and there is no shortcut for success. Various questions were
asked by the students and the session ended with the vote of thanks.

DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 4: SHRI. JANARDAN DWIVETHI

Interaction with shri. Janardan Dwivedhi, He was the Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha for a
long time from 2004-2018 and also General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. He
was on the four member committee that included Rahul Gandhi, A.K.Antony and Ahmed Patel
to look after the party's affairs in Sonia Gandhi's absence. He appreciated all the students for
going the course to know about politics. emphasize upon the ethical and moral principle into
politics that one shall have and cherish for the benefit of all whom an individuals represents. The
MP highlighted upon the fact that the development should be invlusive and a politician shall
keep their close contact with the locals and taking care of their culture and tradition. Additionally
it was also highlighted that the combination of RajNiti is missing in the present time. One can
indeed find the presence of Raj but there is a huge vacume that has been created with the absence
and ignorance of Niti (this include robust and sustainable planning). Various questions by
Abhishek, Prasad were asked and the session ended with a vote of thanks by Arvind Sharma.

DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 5: SHRI RAHUL KASWAN

Meeting with Rahul Kaswan, He is a Member of parliament from Churu Constituency and
belongs to BJP. He had a dynamic personality and was a few young to be a part of the lower
house of Parliament. He had a good education background and his father is a MLA from the state
assembly. He had a long political lineage. His father and he have a good reputation because they
are well connected to the ground level. He shared his experience and the works which he has
done to his constituency. He said that he wants to built a world class stadium in the churu
district and wants to support the youngster in the sports. He has also enlightened us with the
advantage of the MPLADS funds and how these are very beneficial to the people of lower strata.

He was very keen to know from our side that, why we have chosen this course because he
believed that politics can’t be studied in class rooms. Politics needs oneself to reach to the
ground level, learn people’s problem and suggest a solution to it. If someone masters it then he
will become a good politician and can achieve heights. There were many questions put forth
towards him by the students on the various topics like, the present government success and
failure, how his political background helped him to win, how a non- political background person
should move in the politics etc. For all questions he gave answers with ease and appreciated the
students for going this course. The session ended with the vote of thanks by Abhishek Upadhyay.

DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 6: SHRI.DR. JAYAKUMAR

Interaction with Dr. Jayakumar- The last meeting of National Study Tour has taken place with
Dr. Jayakumar Loksabha Member from Tamilnadu, Shri Sankalp Singhai sir introduced the
leader to the participants and Prof. Parimal gave introduction of MITSOG.

Following are the important points made by DR.Jayakumar in his interaction with participants:

A) Dedication in the field of politics have a important place, one should be more dedicated
towards tha party works and should show the loyalty towards the party which inturn which give
more upward mobility in the party hierarchy, thus once commitment towards the party will bring
their career prospects in the political field to a brighter light.

B) He gave an important insight regarding the current political culture in which it gives an
important note that money plays an vital role in the election and if one needs to win the election
there is a huge investment is needed, even though it is bad to the democracy but it is an
inevitable bitter truth of the towards politics. He also told that it is very difficult for a person
without any political background or less financial support to shine into the politics.
C)He also said that if a person wants to shine in the politics he or she should have a God father
because this the only way, some one can shine in the politics otherwise it is very tough to get
mobilisation into the upper starta.

He promised for his support in future too as well as discussion whenever required. Indeed it was
a fruitful and experience-gaining discussion with him mayuresh,Abhishek,pranay - all

DAY 7: 19TH MARCH: SESSION 7: SHRI. PROF. SOUGATA ROY

Interaction with with Prof. Sougata Roy. He is currently Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha
since 2009. He is the Lok Sabha Member from Dumdum, West Bengal being elected as a
Trinamool Congress candidate. He has shared his experience and gave some fruitful insights to
the students, He told us about his initial life in politics and about his humble family background.
He joined politics at the age of 19 as a NSUI member in his college. He rose as a student leader
and fought mainly against SFI, the student wing of the Communist Party. Later he joined the
Congress Party and started doing politics full time but to sustain himself took the job of a
professor. He was the Union Minister of State for Urban Development in the Manmohan Singh
government.

He advised the students to focus on the issues of people which they deal with on daily basis. He
told us that to be politically intellectual but to also learn the basics of politics just like any other
party Karya karta. He also advised us that before going into full time politics one should have
some source of income to sustain themselves. He shared with the participants about his
experience of working with different politicians specially with Mamata Banerjee and Sharad
Pawar in his long political career.

He explained the participants about the politics and political culture of Bengal. The different
parameters of Development in Bengal in accordance to the other states of India. He also
explained why politics in Bengal involves lesser amount of money till date in comparison to
other states. Sarthak Saoji, Mayuresh Sambhudas - all other participants of MPG 15 asked
questions. Bishal Dutta, MPG 15 student proposed vote of thanks.

Conclusion: The whole study tour was a great and memorable event in our life. From outside
it looks like politician are enjoying fame, name money and power but when we interact with
them then we come to know the real pain and hard work which these people under went. The
common thread from all meeting was that they have emphasized on 1) knowledge acquiring 2)
hard work and determination 3) having a good ground level contact 4) having a good
relationship with party workers. Thus the common learning points we’re sorted out and the
students have learned and have a different perspective regarding politics after this tour.
