My First Virtual Lesson

Today I took on the responsibility of leading a full virtual class and it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

I am fortunate to be working with some really awesome teachers in my content area. They have

extended themselves well past anything I could have imagined. Before I get into what happened

when I taught the lesson I have to emphasize that I had four adults online watching me as I

taught. Admittedly two of them were my “ backup” and were ready to assist me with whatever I

may need help with during the lesson. The other two were my mentor teacher and my site

coordinator. Interestingly enough I was not the slightest bit nervous about them. I was more

worried about the students. Overall the lesson pretty smoothly. Given that I am still new to many

of the students I take great care not to be overbearing and pushy all while having a lesson where

the students’ voices are front and center. I feel that I did a pretty good job of creating a

comfortable learning environment that was student centered and focused. As a result of this I

have grown to relieve that I perform pretty well under pressure and moving forward I want to be

more confident in my abilities to perform well no matter the circumstances.

During this lesson I feel that I showed strength in Domain two(Classroom Environment) even

though we were not in a physical classroom. In the component of creating an environment of

respect and rapport I feel that I initiated and promoted an atmosphere of respect while also

facilitating positive classroom interactions.
