Business report checklist

1. Has the draft text been approved by management?


2. Proof read document to see if sentences flow and make sense, and correct
use of language, capital letters. If the sentence is confusing then make a
notation that is must be rephrased.
3. Check writing style, is it active voice and in plain English. The document
should be easy to read.
4. Does the document use gender neutral language.
5. Is the source of information clearly identified and reputable? If they are
not original words where did they come from?
6. Does the document breach copywrite or any legal issues?
7. Does the document follow the corporate style guide?
8. Does the financial/budget information look correct?
9. Does the document follow good design and layout principles? Do images
and graphics have captions?
10. Does the Executive Summary clearly and succinctly state the
purpose (description of problem), the method to answer problem and
contains a conclusion with recommendations.
11. Are the recommendations clearly stated action items and presented
as separate points that the reader can say simply say yes or no to. Check
to see if recommendations are in bullet point format and start with a verb.
12. Run final spelling and grammar checker to double check for errors.
If something is underlined, right click and find out why.
13. Double check page and section numbering with Contents page.
