Relative Density or Specific Gravity can not be used directly during calculation,

It must be corrected first by using the formula :
Dens,=RDa,c * CF , where

RDjy_= Relative Density at reference temperature e.g. 20°C in vacuum,
CF = Correction Factor for water at reference temperature in vacuum.

* Beware of that observed relative density always is in air e.g. RD®*” = 0.8250.
To convert it to vacuum add 0.0011.

3.1.3. Calculating with Relative Density
Relative Density is a comparison with water at 4 °C, Therefore ASTM tables 23 or 24
must be used. Relative Density is often used in countries with influence from the
British Society, |
‘Temperature will often be in Fahrenheit and volume units in Barrels.
To convert to weight a stowfactor must be used. Always calculate the results with 3
decimals.
j ‘Anexample:
Cargo: Gasoil, RD®® = 0.8350, Cargo temperature

3.2.3 Chemical Calculation with Volume Correction
An example :
Cargo: Benzene, D’
| Volume: 500.000 m*
8775, Corr: 0.001215 m*°C ,Temp: 24.0 °C,
|
