After I read through “Adolescence and the Teenage Crush”, I wonder if true love exists.

But after

I finished reading “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, I realized there is the fourth type of love that

wasn't mentioned in the article, which is actual romantic love that is reciprocated.

In “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, there are two characters, Lysander and Hermia caught my

eyes. According to the play, Hermia is the daughter of Egeus, she is in love with Lysander.

Lysander is Hermis’s lover. Moreover, there are two main types of love in “Adolescence and the

Teenage Crush”, identity crush and romantic crush. Identity crushes are having a crush on

someone they want to become like, and treat as a leader to follow. Romantic crushes are having a

crush on someone who is attractive and they want to spend time with. There is also actual

romantic love that is reciprocated. I wonder the type of their love and curious Lysander’s

feelings towards Hermia. Is there really actual romantic love that is reciprocated between them?

This is the quote from Egeus, according to the text, Lyansder gave poems to Hermia;

interchanged love tokens with Hermia; sung a song with a soft voice at her window at night and

stole her impression of imagination by some gifts. These actions of Lysander can see and prove

his true love for Hermia, for which he has invested a lot of time and energy to build up the

relationship between them. These actions are not seen in Demetrius' actions, who also loves

Hermia. Demetrius and Lysander both love Hermia, but Lysander is the one who has the action,

not only the language. So I sincerely believe Lysander’s feelings towards Hermia is actual

romantic love that is reciprocated.

Based on the answer that Hermia gave to Lysander, after he asked for leaving the town together.

When Lysander mentions leaving the town, Hermia accepts the choice he made. The choice that

Lysander made was crazy and dangerous. Hermia wasn't afraid of breaking the rules, She just

wants to be with Lysander. She can take the risk because of Lysander and love between them. As

you can see, not only is Lysander giving the love to Hermia, Hermia also gives love and is

willing to give for him.

All in all, I think the love between them is the actual romantic love that is reciprocated. Lysander

and Hermia’s love is mutual, they both love each other. They both invested the love, time,

actions for each other, not only the love in words. Actions can show and express love more than

words. They both leave the town and handle the difficulty together. Although Lysander used to

“love” Helena because of the mistake of Puck for putting the juice on his eyes, Hermia was still

guarding Lysander beside him. From these things they have been through, The theme that

Shakespearea was trying to tell audiences is that only two people guard beside each other, invest

love and understand each other can create true love.
