1. Differentiate between
a. mineral and rock
b. batholiths and laccolith
c. open folds and closed folds
d. hanging walls and foot walls
e. normal fault and reverse fault.

2. Explain different types of tectonic plate boundaries.

3. Write short notes on rock cycle with the help of neat sketches.

4. Define hardness. What is Mohs scale of hardness? Arrange the following standard
minerals in the increasing order of Mohs hardness scale: “diamond, talc, quartz, and
calcite”.

5. What is unconformity? Name different types of unconformity.

6. Write short notes on folds and faults and discuss their significance on selection of
dam site.
