Bachelor of Arts in Journalism The University President yas made to the curriculum for Bachelor of Arts in Journalism the revi presented the proposal explaining that were in compliance with the standards prescribed under | CHED lemorandum Order No. 14, series of 2010. She also revealed that the exceners - 084, 5. 2081 total number of units for the academic program in the revised curriculum was increased to 164 compared to 140 units in the old program. Being through presenting the Executive Brief for the subject proposal, the University President moved for Board approval of the adoption of CHED Memorandum Order No. 14, series of 2040 thus resulting to the revision of the curriculum for Bachelor of arts in Journalism. ‘The Faculty Regent having seconded that motion, the jing Chair declared the matter open for discussions. To comply with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 14, Series of 2010, “fo make rolevant the general principles and guidelines for the operation of 2. To equip students with the knowledge and skills in the theory, practice and management, and the ethics of Journalism, with emphasis on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. Legal Basis: Revision is in accordance with pertinent provisions of RA 722 otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994 and with CHED CMO. 14, Series of 2010. Briof Description of the Proposal Content: ‘The present AB Journalism curticulum took effect in school year 2008-2010, ors in existence for two and @ half years aeady, covering the frst year up to the thid year journalism stucents. The fourth year students are the last batch taking up the course under the much older curriculum revised/enhanced in 2004. However, another revision is ordered by the Commission on Higher Education under CHED Memorandum Order no. 14, series of 2010, issued last June 10, 2010, withthe folowing course outline and requirements: 1. The AB Journalism program shall have @ minimum of 140 units. = The proposal has 164 units 2. The maximum allowable load per semester is 24 units. The course deals with the analytical study of essay as a literary genre. Math 1. Algebra, This course covers discussions and applications of mathematical concepts and principles on sets. Real number system, Algebraic expressions, exponents and radicals, linear equations and inequalities , quadratic equations , system of linear equations, relations and functions with emphasis on problem solving, relating to real life situations. Math 2, Statistics. This course covers discussions and applications ofthe basic concepts, theories and methods of descriptive, regression and correlation, and inferential statistics used in the interpretation and analysis of data in research MS 1, Philippine History. A comprehensive study ofthe cultural and socio-economic history of the Philipines from the Pre-Hispanic period. MS 2. Rizal's life and Works. This course is the study ofthe biography of Dr. Jose Rizal including a critical view of the social order during his time through an analysis of his works, his opinions on nationalism, government, religion and education as well as his philosophy of life and their relevance tothe contemporary Philippine society. Nat Sci 4. Physical Scienes. This course covers the study of the natural physical sciences: astronomy, meteorology, geology, physies and chemistry, basic tthe understanding of natural phenomena. Net Sci 2. Biological Science. The subject covers the study of all the natural physical sciences: botany, zoology, and alied subjects basic to the understanding of natural phenomena. The subject also covers concept on current biotechnology. NSTP 4. National Service Training Program. Reserve officers Training Corps, Civic Welfare Training Service, or Literacy Training Services. This course defines and identifies the elements of rhythm, common dance formations, basic natural movements, fundamental dance position, and dance steps in 2/4, % and Aid PE 3, Fundamentals of Games and Sports. This course specifically deals with the application of the fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding ofthe rules of individual, dual and team sports. PE 4, Recreation and Youth Leadership. This is a course on socialization recreation and traning ofthe youth for leadership. This incudes activities that aim to develop positive values like cooperation, camaraderie, team building, self confidence and other related qualities that make or active membership in society Soc Sci 1. Its focus is on the development of the Philippine goverment and ‘constitution and the various forces, which shape every change in the country’s fundamental law leading to the understanding of changes in the goverment. The 1987 Philippine Constitution with emphasis onthe Bil of Rights and Republicanism is an important part ofthe course. Soc Scl 3. Society and Culture with Family Planning, This course deals with the nature, scope, basic concepis and the theoretical foundation s of society and culture, particulary in the Prilippine setting. Likewise, it covers discussion on the diferent concopts, programs and objectives of family planning, its implications and importance to Philippine conditions especially on environment, population, social change and social development. Soe Sci 4. Basic Economics, Taxation and Agrarian Reform. Part | is an introductory course in economies dealing with basie exonomics concepts and principles that explain how decisions ae eided by economic decision- making uit relative to production, consumption, exchange and distbuion of goods and sores. Part Il covers ‘discussions on the general principles of taxation, classification of taxes and tax payers nationally and locally, rationally imposed taxes andthe limitations tothe power to tax. Part I includes analysis and discussions on the rationale for agrarian rform, ts concepts and components as provided for inthe constitution.
