Site a water resource problem in your respective community.

What water resource

facility/structure/system you think is best suited to address that problem? Explain
your answers and develop a step-by-step model on how you’re going to make a
solution to the problem.

Note: You may include problems that involve disruption of the natural hydrologic
cycle.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
Through the years, the culvert and its surroundings in our barangay have
become a dumping site of garbage and even animal waste. Also, the structure of the culvert
itself is old and unmaintained by the officials. Because of how pollution affects it,
sometimes it does not serve its purpose anymore which is to allow water to flow under a
road, railroad, or similar obstruction from one side to the other especially when there are
calamities.

SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM:

The best solution for this problem in my opinion is first to state the problem
with the barangay officials to plan what is the best way to do with this problem. Next, is to
conduct research and assessment. By conducting research look for the map or layout of
exiting culvert and know where it is connected. Also, know where does rain directions and
roof drain water flows. Also, find if there are existing storm sewer outfalls and if those
outfalls are properly maintained and still serve its purpose. Then, know if the culvert can
still be repaired or must be replaced. If it still can be repaired try repairing it with the guide
of barangay officials and consultants and also make plans for its continued maintenance
and cleaning for the benefit of the community. And if ever it needs to be replaced still
engage with a consultant, chose qualitative bid, and ask further questions so that you will
know if the project is going and if the water resource system will be applied is the best
decision. Also, I will choose the most advanced design for the culvert that does do a good
job for its purpose and can be used for more than 10 to 20 years.
