Ceramic art is a form of art that is normally made from ceramic materials
like clay. The usual example of ceramic materials is in a form of a vessel,
brick, tile, glass, or even cement. Ceramic art it is considered a visual art or plastic art due to the distinct beauty it gives off. But others consider ceramics as fine art, pottery, or sculpture. Some use it for decorative or industrial purposes. The word "ceramic" comes from the Greek word keramikos, meaning "pottery". Most of the ceramic products in the past are made of clay and only had minimal changes in terns of processes. In our modern world, potters have developed new methods to produce ceramics for other purposes. They also made ceramics more durable than in the past because of the new technologies. Minerals are commonly used in the production of ceramics. The mineral is a kind of an element or chemical compound, normally crystalline, that is found in rocks or in the Earth’s crust. Sometimes they use minerals in human teeth and bones to harden the ceramic. Pottery is a method of forming vessels and other objects with clay and other ceramic materials. The place where the ceramic is made by pottery is also called ‘pottery’. It is one of the oldest and remarkable inventions by a human in the past. It is said it first existed 12000 years ago, in the Neolithic period. There are different types of clay that are used to make a ceramics. Earthenware is a kind of pottery that has not been fired to vitrification and is therefore permeable. Vitrification, by definition, is a transformation of a substance into a glass. Stoneware is a kind vitreous or semi-vitreous ceramic that is made mainly from stoneware clay or non-refractory fire clay. Porcelain is a type of ceramic material made by heating materials, generally including kaolinite in a kiln to temperatures between 1200 to 1400 degrees Celsius. Lastly, Bone china is a type of soft-paste porcelain that is composed of bone ash, feldspathic material, and kaolinite.
