❏ Read​ “​Can wax worms help plastic problem?​” a​rt​icle. Highlight any signal words that tell you the
author is using a ​cause/effect and/or problem/solution​ text structure. Highlight the main idea if you
find it directly stated. Then complete the Quiz and both Writing activities.

ReadWorks
❏ Read both articles about​ Threatened Species: Worldwide Loss of Bees a Growing Concern and The
American Chestnut. Complete comprehension questions.

❏ Choose two articles from the “Hamilton, Washington, and Lincoln” set of articles to read. As
you read, highlight the main idea and any sequence structure signal words that you see. Write
a summary of the main idea and important key details in your Book of Knowledge.

Paragraph Practice
❏ Watch the video “Paragraphs (Part I)” from last week if you didn’t already watch it

❏ Watch the video “Cause/Effect and Problem/Solution Text Structure Paragraph Assignment”

❏ For each article in ReadWorks “Threatened Species”, write a paragraph that identifies what is causing
the problem, what the effects are, and what the possible solutions could be. Then write a paragraph
that compares the fates of bees and chestnuts. How are their struggles similar? How are they different?
These 3 paragraphs should be written with your best grammar and include at least 5
sentences. Email the paragraph to Megan at mjones@waubonsee.edu
