Nest helps you protect your home

Apple wants its customers all to itself.

The company pulled Google's (GOOGL, Tech30) Nest's smart thermostat from its website as well as
online stores earlier this month.

The last time Apple discontinued a line of products -- Jawbone Up and Nike (NKE) +Fuelband -- it
was making way for the Apple (AAPL, Tech30) Watch.

Last year, the tech giant launched the Apple Homekit, an iOS based "Internet of Things" (IoT)
platform that allows a user's home devices to be controlled via their iPhones or iPads.

Given the new platform, this ouster is not surprising. In fact, what the Apple Store is selling now is
the $249 Ecobee 3, another thermostat that works with Apple's devices as part of Apple's HomeKit.

The Nest Thermostat was exclusively sold by Apple first when it released in 2012. Tony Fadell,
"godfather of the iPod," founded Nest along with another former Apple executive, Matt Rogers. Their
team has a loT of ex-Apple talent. Speculators thought Apple would buy it, but rival Google scooped
it up for $3.2 billion in January 2014.

As the incoming flux of HomeKit-enabled device picks up pace, it seems unlikely that Google Nest's
smart thermostat will return -- especially since the Nest creators are working on their own competing

The nest is the worst thermostat.  what a pita.  it should have been dropped because its
terrible.   First, it gets disconnected all the time, then a week later, will suddenly be connected
again.  (I had three zones in my previous house, rarely were all three zones working at the
same time).

2nd, and more importantly, if you want to use the scheduler to save energy, there is no
override or hold option.   So if you are home sick, its Christmas, you are up later than normal,
come home early, or any other reason you want to stop the scheduler, you are out of luck.  I
am not kidding. I ended up removing the whole schedule from all three thermostats so i could
just manually change it when i wanted to.

dont have that problem with ours but then again I can adjust the temp on my watch.

@Tom Heine I have had absolutely no issues with mine. Works like a charm.
Maybe your WiFi is the problem. With regards to the scheduler, I agree it could be
more flexible but that is a simple software fix.

It is bizarre, we are living in a crazy world, Google, Amazon, Neftlix do not earn good revenue
nor profit but the stocks surged BIG, in contrary to Apple earned huge revenue and profits but
stock plunged two quarters in a row.. What does that say to you?.
Look like there are some investors blow off the whistles, require an investigate.

"If it is criminal:
1. It’s to burn Leaps
2. It’s to keep share prices low so Apple can buyback shares and take it private with the help
of outside financing when they have maybe half the cap in cash.
After that stellar report, anything below $150 is criminal and should be investigated".

@Kuli Kula Amazon just posted its first profit Amazon is a genius platform.
Google is Google, Netflix is the premier choice for viewing entertainment

Google has been profits to the tune of 3 billion +
Netflix had millions in profits
Apple huge profits , but less phones were sold than anticipated this is why the
stock is currently trading off its highs, you do realize how much Apple stock has
soared right?

So your entire premise is wrong.

@Kuli Kula Stock prices are based on future, not past. Past was already reaped in
the form of market cap, dividends and fat bank balance. For Apples stock to grow,
it has to forecast even more profit. If it beats forecast, stock will grow. If it matches
forecast, stock will remain stable. If it does not beat forecast, stock will decline. And
this cycle repeats again and again.

Jon Ruger 3 days ago

@telveer @Kuli Kula  The forecasts were artificial expectations made up by
analysts, not Apple's forecasts. Every 16.6 hours, Apple made more profit than
Amazon made in it's "record" quarter. Apple P/E = 13.3, Amazon P/E = 507. What
a joke. Google is almost 3x more expensive (PE) than apple, and is based mostly
on click fraud.

John Nguyen 2 days ago

@Jon Ruger telveer is correct. Stock prices are valuations based on the future. If
you only bet based on the present or the past, you will have no foresight in
valuating your companies as it moves forward. This is why stocks are priced based
on the risk perception + projected growth.
