STUDENTS

Education is an issue which frequently generates a great deal of heated debate, with
supporters maintaining that there should be more options for the student to choose from,
whilst opponents claim that the school as it is nowadays is fine and it doesn’t need any change.
The following opinion essay takes a look at both sides of the argument, answering as well the
questions of our class book.

Some parents defend that students should choose what they want to learn, and I totally agree
with them. In my opinion, if students are sure about what they want to study at university,
they must be given the opportunity to choose the subjects that suit them the most. Also, I
believe that working on collaborative projects is, at the present time, crucial for students
because in the future they are going to work as a team the whole time. Related to this topic,
personally speaking, I think that students should teach each other, and even try and teach the
teachers, because always is possible to learn from the virtues of others. This, of course,
includes evaluating each other.

On the contrary, I believe that classes are the key to success, and if we didn’t have classes at
all, learning would be high way more difficult. This argument obviously embraces the fact that
school is necessary. If we want to make Spanish population smarter, I firmly believe that school
should be compulsory until 18 years old, not 16 as it is now.
