E-Cigarettes Ad Design

This advertisement is designed for people ages 14-20, since many middle school and high school
students use e-cigarettes or vape pens, and this is the age group that uses them the most.

I have chosen these facts to show how smoking/vaping is a health hazard, since many people do not
know what their e-cigarette/vape pen contains, and therefore do not know how dangerous vaping is.
These facts also sort of “scare” people to stop smoking.

I chose the image on the left (cancer), which seems a little disgusting, to create a feeling of revulsion
and horror, because almost everyone wouldn’t like to have cancer in them, especially when they have
seen what it looks like inside their body.

I chose the image on the right (lungs), where the lungs are filled with cigarettes, to show how the
lungs actually get filled with smoke, even when using e-cigarettes. This also creates a horrific feeling,
because again, no one wants their lungs to be filled with toxic smoke.

I think my design would be effective for my target audience because the color scheme and font stand
out (red means danger, white and black mean death; bold, capital letter font), and the facts and
pictures induce fear, horror and doubt while data and statistics may not influence young people. The
quote at the bottom (in large words) “STOP SMOKING BEFORE SMOKING STOPS YOU.” is essential
because it brings a sense of alarm and urgency: if you don’t quit smoking now, it will end your life.
This encourages viewers to think about what to do. This is a choice they need to make.
