Discussion on Errors in Approximate numbers and Significant figures; Rounding-off numbers; Errors:
Absolute, Relative and Percentage; Error in Arithmetical operations; A General Error Formula; Errors
in Numerical Computations;

II. Introduction on the subject; Importance & Applications

Roots of transcendental equations; Iterative methods: Bisection method; Secant method; Regula-Falsi
method; Newton-Raphson method; Generalised Method for multiple roots; Discussion on Errors & Rate
of convergence of iterative methods. Convergence of secant method, Regula-Falsi method, Newton-
Raphson method;

III. Solution of a system of equations

Gauss elimination method; Gauss-Jordan method; Jacobi’s iteration method; Gauss Siedel method; Ill
conditioned problems; Error analysis.

IV. Finite Difference Operators

Shift operator, Forward difference operator, Backward difference operator, Average operator, Central
difference operator and their relations; Factorial Notation; Finding Missing Term in a table.
