ABSTRACT
Background: The development of the era and technology, humans create tools that make it easier to
communicate each other including gadgets. Gadgets are one technology that is needed by humans to
communicate with others. All the technologies have a negative and positive impact, in this case the
role of parents really determines how the impact of gadget technology on the child's personality.
Dependence of children in playing gadgets cannot be separated from the role of both parents.
Therefore, parents have an obligation to control and participate in supervising every information
activity that children receive through gadgets and to interact when children use gadgets by providing
good and appropriate explanations.
Research Objectives: Evaluate the use of gadgets in children’s life in SD Negeri Sudirman I
Makassar
The Method: This study uses a descriptive exploratory type of research with 222 respondents and 15
parents. The sampling technique is Un-probability sampling and purposive sampling, instruments
used in questionnaires and interviews to the parents.
Results: This study shows the duration of using a gadget <8 hours with lighting 26-50% in a day in a
lying position. The use of gadgets is in the medium category. The work of the respondent's father is as
an entrepreneur and his mother as a Housewife (IRT). Applications that are often accessed by the
children are: chatting, social media, education, online games, comics, browsing, entertainment,
shopping, transportation and sms and telephone.
Conclusions and suggestions: The research is expected to increase knowledge and insight about the
role of parents in the gadget in used by the children.
