The IB programme is a two-year curriculum that promotes the total development of
students by offering a challenging academic experience and intellectual depth across the
curriculum while cultivating their personal growth, international/global-mindedness, and
leadership.

Why students choose the IB Programmes at WHHS?


IB students form close relationships with each other and work closely with their teachers.
IB courses offer a classroom experience that is built around student interest and inquiry.
IB emphasizes global interconnections and the contributions of people of many cultures.

IB Courses at WHHS
SL – Standard Level
HL – Higher Level – typically include a range of additional elements designed to
allow students to explore areas of interest within the subject more in depth.
All courses are taught for two consecutive years except Math Applications and
Interpretation it is taught senior year only. (1 year course)

IB Diploma Programme
Diploma students must complete one from all of the six groups in the table above
(3 SL and 3 HL)
In addition to the courses above Diploma candidates must complete the Extended
Essay (EE), Creativity, Activity, & Service (CAS), and Theory of Knowledge
Diploma students have 7th period to take a course of their choice. Examples
include, but are not limited to band, theater, PE, work based learning, honors
mentorship.

IB Bilingual Diploma Programme


Bilingual Diploma students must complete Spanish A for group 1 in addition to
English A or B, or students who are fluent in another language may choose to
self-study for Group 1 (see the IB coordinator for more information).
Bilingual Diploma students must complete one from all of the six groups in the
table above (3 SL and 3 HL)
In addition to the courses above Bilingual Diploma candidates must complete the
Extended Essay (EE), Creativity, Activity, & Service (CAS), and Theory of
Knowledge
Bilingual Diploma students have 7th period to take a course of their choice.
Examples include, but are not limited to band, theater, PE, work based learning,
honors mentorship.

IB Career-Related Programme
Career-Related students take a minimum of 2 IB courses from groups 1-6 listed
in the first table above.
In addition to the courses above Career-Related candidates also complete the
Reflective Project (RP), Service Learning or CAS, complete a language
portfolio, Personal and Professional Skills course (PPS), and successfully
complete a career pathway
Career-Related students must have the first course of a career-pathway
completed before the beginning of their junior year.
Students complete a minimum of 3 courses in the same career tech area and must
pass the End of Pathway assessment.
Career-Related students take a modern language course during their junior and
senior years of high school (same language both years). We encourage you to
take an IB language course from group 2, but it is not required to be an IB
language course. For example, you might take Spanish 1 and 2 but you could
take IB Spanish ab intio.
IB Bilingual Career-Related Programme
Bilingual Career-Related students take a minimum of 2 IB courses from groups
1-6 listed above.
Bilingual Career-Related students must complete Spanish A for group 1 in
addition to English A or B, or students who are fluent in another language may
choose to self-study for Group 1 (see the IB coordinator for more information).
Bilingual Career-Related students must take a course from Group 3 (history)
and/or Group 4 (science) in addition to Spanish A (or a self-taught course in
group 1 – see the coordinator for more information).
In addition to the IB courses, Career-Related candidates also complete the
Reflective Project (RP), Service Learning or CAS, complete a language
portfolio, Personal and Professional Skills course (PPS), and successfully
complete a career pathway.
Career-Related students must have the first course of a career-pathway
completed before the beginning of their junior year.
