Like other countries Belarus has its own holidays. They are of two kinds – traditional national holidays
and religious holidays. National holidays are both – a public celebration and a personal event in the
family. We have some special holidays. For example, Kupalle, it is the most loved and celebrated
pagan holiday in Belarus.People jump over the fire, bath in the river, roll in the grass dew. They dance
in karagods, compet in strength and look for a blossoming fern flower – “paparats kvetka”. Another
interesting holiday is Belarusian Kalyady.Orthodox Christmas comes a week after the New Year and
this week in Belarus is called Kalyady. During the Christmas week street festivals of all kinds take place
in the cities and towns of Belarus. For religious people this holiday is of special meaning. So they go to
churches and take part in different religious celebrations. So, every holiday in our country is unique and
has its specificity. I love all of them and guess, that holidays make us happier.

1. Where is Belarus situated?
2. Who is the president of your country?
3. Do people of Belarus speak only Belarusian?
4. There are a lot of sights in Belarus, aren’t there?
5. Is the weather in Belarus mainly rainy or sunny?
6. I wonder what the main national holidays in Belarus are.

I don’t agree with this opinion. Russian and Belarusian are two official languages, despite the fact that
very few people speak Belarusian in their day-to-day lives, Belarusian language has become much
more popular than it was 10-15 years ago. As there are very few schools and practically no universities
that teach in Belarusian, independent courses are conducted across Belarus. People want to know their
language to be proud of who they are. More and more young people especially with higher education
try to speak Belarusian. National language is one of the indexes reflecting originality and soul of the
people. I know there are cafes in Minsk where people speak only Belarusian. To my mind our mass
media must speak and write in Belarusian and give the model of speaking native language. As for me
I’d love to speak the language of my Motherland but still I’m not ready to because of a lot of mistakes.

Belarus is an ancient country with long and interesting history, and there are a lot of pace of
interest:ancient towns, monuments and museums. There are our national heritage. Among the main
Belarusian trasures we can mention the cities of Nesvizh and Mir where you can see old castles. But
also Belarus famous for its flora and founa. And there are a lot of places what prove it.
And I reccomend you to visit The Braslav Lake Area is famous for unusual landscapes and terrain left
by the ancient glacier. Here you can find about 300 lakes of various sizes composition, water
transparency, flora and fauna. The deepest lake is South Voloso (40.4 meters deep), but the boggest
one is Drivyaty(36 square kilometers, the 5th largest in Belarus).
And the next wonderful place in our country is Nalibokskaya Pushcрa is a dense(густой) forest area,
located near three rivers – the Neman, Berezina and Mustache. The name of the forest came from a
nearby small village called Naliboki. Nalibokskaya Pushcha is truly(поистине) a vast land of untouched
forests, which is considered the largest in Belarus. Its area is 96 thousand hectares! However, even
though the territory is not officially protected, the flora of the forest is really various. There are more than
820 different species of plants, many of which are listed in the Red book. Nalibokskaya Pushcha is also
rich in birds: there are 29 species in total. Of these, there are those that are listed in the Red book. So,
a rest in Nalibokskaya Pushcha will be interesting and I can recommend it to everyone, because it is a
very beautiful and amazing place.
So, but in our republic there are a lot of other places of interesting, like theatres, museums, monuments,
interesting arcitecture buildings and other and everybody can find something interesting for him.
