Characters: Makato– the sensible, hardworking, good-tempered and cheerful boy who longed for excitng
adventures
Employer–one of the persons who took good care of Makato
Old Woman–wife of one of the king’s mahouts and the person who helped Makato to fulfill his dream of meetng
with the kingMahout-
Husband of the old woman Pra Ruang– The kind-hearted
King of Sukhothai who gave a cowrie shell to makato.
Other charactersThe woman at the stall
The daughter of the king (the princess)
MAJOR CHARACTER:Makato- He was an orphan, for his father and mother had died when he was very young
.MINOR CHARACTERS:Employer– He was the one that took good care of Makato while he was in the Mon.
He encouraged Makato to go on the Sukhothai to see Pra Ruang.
Old Woman – She helped Makato to find a job. Since then He was known by the King for being a hardworking
person.
King Pra Ruang– The king that gave the cowrie shell to Makato. He passed his throne to him when he has proved
that he was a reliable and loyal person.
Conflict: Man vs. Circumstances (classical) Makato against his fate -Since Makato was a poor orphan, he cannot
change the fact that he's longing for a family no matter how happy he is.-He left his village that's why he need to
familiarize the place where he is now and get along with his new neighbors.
Point of View: Omniscient point of view – The author is the one telling the story and is only a witness of the
story. The author knows the thoughts and feelings of all the characters in the story.
Theme: Ambition and Courage: A hardworking person always receives a reward
