The art of persuasion

A little girl wanted to have a puppy but her mother would not allow any pet in the 
house. One day, while her mother was busy gardening in the backyard, the girl 
followed her outside.

"Mom, I want to have a horse," she announced.

"Why would you want a horse?" the mother asked.

The girl replied, "Well, we can ride him into the hills and it would be fun. A horse 
eats grass so Dad would not have to cut the grass in the backyard as much. 
And a horse pooh would be good fertilizer for your flower bed."

"It's too much work to take care of a horse," the mother said.

"I will feed and bath the horse myself every day. You wouldn't have to do 
anything," the girl explained.

"No, you cannot have a horse," the mother said emphatically.

"But I want to have a horse," the girl said as she walked back into the house 
while pretending to be sobbing.

The mother stood up, took off her garden gloves, and followed her daughter 
into the house. "Sweetie, you really cannot have a horse for a pet. OK, you can 
have a puppy, instead," she said.
