CLIMB AGAIN

Climb Again is a non-governmental organization affiliated to the Romanian Federation of Climbing

and Climbing (FRAE), founded and led by Claudiu Miu, former Balkan Climb Champion. As early as
2014, Climb Again organizes free climbing, kinetotherapy and psychological counseling sessions for
children and young people with disabilities: visual impairment, hearing, autistic spectrum disorders,
neuromotor disorders, associated disorders.

The first climbing center for children and young people with disabilities in Romania. A healthy mix of
sports and adventure, psychological and therapeutic support.

Vision
Climb Again's vision is to give a chance to a normal life to children and young people with special
needs. What does a normal life mean? It means a life in which they have the chance to reach their
own potential, as do people without disabilities. Thus, they aim to create a framework in which to
develop the skills necessary for an independent life.

Target group
Children, Adults, youngsters

Children and young people with disabilities: visual impairment, hearing, autistic spectrum disorders,
neuromotor disorders, associated disorders.

History

Climb Again story was around Claudiu Miu, a former national and Balkan climber champion, who in
2010 became sick and had to give up the climb to the rest of the day-to-day activities. After three
years of suffering and struggle, he began to climb again, despite the traces left by the disease. This is
how the Climb Again was born in 2014, from Claudiu's wish to return all the help he received in
recent years from his family, friends, and the entire community of climbers.

In 2018 they opened the Climb Again Center, the first climbing center for children and young people
with disabilities in Romania. The launching event took place at the end of September at the
headquarters of the Berceni Road no. 8.

As a result of the Climbing Center's opening, the operational capacity of the association is
significantly increasing, with 2000 children with deficiencies benefiting from an integrative
therapeutic support annually ten times more than before the Center's opening.

Finances

Climb Again has a lot of partners and collaborations with different organization and brands that fund
their projects. Some of their activities are funded by grants.
Besides this, everyone can help them grow and continue their activity. People can make donations
or they can buy an 1+1 escalation course or an Official T-shirt and support a free workout for a child
with special needs. All Income from the Climb Again Center helps us provide free climb therapy
sessions for children and young people with disabilities.
If you are an employee, you can target 3.5% of your income tax to Climb Again. It costs you nothing -
this amount can be directed to a nonprofit organization or it can reach the state.
Team
Their team consists of 8 people. There are instructors, psychotherapist. Also everyone can help them
as a volunteer.

Activities/Projects

Climb Again houses a climbing room(escalade and boulder) and adventure(with moving bridges and
the largest indoor tyrolean in Bucharest), fitness room, professional training room for
climbers(campus, various boards, moonboard, system board etc.) and the relaxation are.

Escalates as a therapy

Escalate is a complex sport that requires you both physically and mentally, and that constantly tests
the strength, balance and mental control of the climber.

Climb Again wants to scale up on a national scale as a non-formal learning method that focuses not
only on the isolated improvement of a certain type of skill, but at the same time calls on physical,
mental and social skills using adapted techniques and the game.

Among the benefits of escalating as therapy:

 Facilitating motor development, both fine and coarse

 The development of psychomotricity (spatial structuring, body layout and position of the
body in relation to space, position adequacy, etc.)
 Developing attention and concentration power
 Acquiring basic disciplinary notions
 Developing the ability to find solutions, develop strategies
 Better self-knowledge and an improvement in self-esteem
 Increasing self-confidence and overcoming physical or mental limits
 Developing independent life skills

Free climb therapy sessions

The Climb Again Association invites organizations and institutions that work with young people with
special needs in climbing free sessions to show them the benefits that they can get by practicing this
sport. By 2018, over 1,000 children and young people benefited from free meetings at Climb Again.

Sports time for special schools

Partnerships with special schools for visually impaired and hearing from Bucharest, where we work
weekly with groups of children with sensory impairments after their school hours.

Therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders

They created small working sessions for children with autism, focusing on the relationship of trust
between the child and the trainer. Escalade becomes a game that stimulates attention, mobility and
senses, through which you can learn to solve life problems that can overcome fear or frustration.

Kids climb in nature

Even if climbing exercises are practiced in halls, on specially arranged panels, the climb remains a
truly fabulous sport in nature.  Every child who regularly comes to their room through their programs
go at least once a season on a climbing trip (spring / summer / autumn).  They started to "go to the
cliff" in 2014.

National Paraclimbing Lot

Through the Sports Climb Climbing Club's efforts, the paraclimbing discipline (the sport escalation
practiced by people with disabilities) has been officially recognized by the Romanian Federation for
Climbing and Climbing (FRAE).
In 2015, Romania's first paraclimbing team was formed, consisting of 12 athletes with visual
impairments, hearing and neuromotor disorders, trained by Climb Again. They constantly participate
in local, national and international competitions, inspiring other children and young people to grow
by climbing.

Climbing festival
On December 17, 2018, 65 visually impaired children and young people from the 7 special schools
across the country and 15 typical children and youngsters participated in the largest event of cluster
inclusion organized in Romania.

Under the motto "Powerful Together", the Climb Again Association organized a sports event: vertical
wall climb, adventure and tyrolean park activities, creativity workshops, orientation and music
therapy, all of which have direct children and youth with visual impairments.

The participants were divided into mixed teams (serene - blind) and all children experienced the
three circuits, under the supervision of instructors from the National Paraclimbing Lot and
volunteers. The project is being developed by Climb Again and funded by the "Well-Being" program,
supported by Kaufland Romania and implemented by the Civil Society Development Foundation
( www.instaredebine.ro ).
