Present Status

Today, the J&J Corporation includes over 250 subsidiary companies, with
operations in over 57 countries and products sold in over 175 countries around the
world. The company focuses on three main areas: Consumer, Medical devices and
diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals.
The Company now supports the United Nations' Millennium Development
Goals to improve the health of mothers and children in developing countries. As a
founding sponsor, Johnson & Johnson helps launch the United States' first free mobile
health service, providing health information via text messages for pregnant women
and new mothers.
For the fiscal year 2018, Johnson & Johnson reported earnings of US$15.3
billion, with an annual revenue of US$81.6 billion, an increase of 6.7% over the
previous fiscal cycle. Johnson & Johnson's shares traded at over $126 per share, and
its market capitalization was valued at over US$367.5 billion in September 2018.
The 133-year-old health care conglomerate makes everything from Band-Aids
and baby shampoo to contact lenses and hip implants, but its $40.7 billion
pharmaceutical division is what drove the most revenue growth in 2018. The
company’s cancer and immunology drugs sold especially well. J&J’s medical device
division eked out sales growth despite divestitures, as did the company’s consumer
business, which continues to see challenges in its recently relaunched baby care line.
The company faces more than 13,000 lawsuits—and federal inquiries—over the
safety of its talc-based baby powder. (J&J maintains the product is perfectly safe.)
As of 2019, Johnsons raised its full-year guidance and now sees earnings of
$8.62 to $8.67 per share, with revenue in the range of $81.8 billion to $82.3 billion.
Prior to the report, analysts were expecting full-year earnings guidance of $8.53 to
$8.63 a share on revenue of $82.4 billion to $83.2 billion.
Johnson & Johnson has been named to Fortune’s list of the World’s Most
Admired Companies for the 17th year, ranking in the top 20. Johnson & Johnson
also placed #1 in the Pharmaceutical category worldwide for the sixth consecutive
year, making it the highest-ranked healthcare company to appear on the top
companies list in 2019
