FISH IN
INCARIZAN RIVER

ABSTRACT

Incarizan River is located in Magallanes, Sosogon it runs along


in the municipality of Magallanes from Barangay Pili to Banacud. In-
carizan River is a major tributary draining into Sorsogon Bay
(Gonsales, 2016).
Seven hundred fifteen individuals (table 1) from twenty-six genera
belonging to twenty-one families were collected from the seven repre-
sentative sites of the Incarizan river. A total of 715 identified fish indi-
viduals are under family of Ambassidae, Anabantidae, Anguillidae,
Apogonidae, Carangidae, Chanidae, Channidae, Cichlidae, Cichlidae,
Claridae, Gobiidae, Gobiidae, Gobiidae, Hemiramphidae, Leiognathi-
dae, Lutjanidae, Lutjanidae, Mugilidae, Muraenesocidae, Scatopha-
gidae, Scorpionidae, Serranidae, Siganidae, Siganidae, Stramateidae,
Teraodontidae.
Most of the fish species identified in upstream zone were potadro-
mous species or described as fishes which migrates only in freshwa-
ter. These identified fishes were O. niloticus, O. mossambicus, C. stri-
ata, C. microcephalus and A. tetideneus which are important
commecrcial species in aquaculture. The species found in midstream
zone were A. gymnocephalus, G. guiris, E. acanthopoma, H. limbatus
which were described as species that are commonly found in brack-
ishwater estuaries. On the downstream zone, 19 species were found.
Some the species are reef-associated including S. vermiculatus, S.
canaliculatus, L. daura, E. sexfasciatus, S. plumieri, oxyconger, caran-
goides, and O. fasciatus which are important food source for the
coastal areas. Based on the community structure of the Incarizan Riv-
er, the station with the highest richness index were station 6 and 7
(Sitio tinago and Banacud; downstream) and station 1 (Brgy. Pili; up-
stream), with station 2 with the most even and diverse community.
