1. Some species of bacteria are bioengineered for the production of therapeutic proteins, such
as insulin, growth hormones, antibodies, enzymes (Bacillus subtilis and Streptococcus
pyogenes), and antibiotics (Bacillus brevis and Bacillus substises).
2. Several species of bacteria are important in the manufacture of perfumes, organic acids,
and chemicals important in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries.
4. Clostridium butyclicum is also used for commercial preparation of riboflavin, vitamin B and
vitamin K.
