Alberto
Benavides de la Quintana.

Alberto Benavides de la Quintana was an engineer, mining businessman, and

Peruvian politician born on October 21 of the year 1920 and died on February
12, 2014.

He studied his primary and secondary studies at the school called:

“Inmaculada de Lima”.

In 1945 he married Elsa Ganoza de la Torre, with whom he had five chlidren.

His higher studies were carried out at the current UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL
DE INGIENERÍA (NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ENGINEERING).

Doing a master’s degree in Geology at Harvard University thanks to a grant

from the Cerro de Pasco Corporation, in 1953 he founded the COMPAÑIA DE
MINAS BUENAVENTURA, thus beginning the exploration of the Julcani silver
mine.

Julcani was a success in the following 3 years, but the situation was
complicated. And Benavides had to diversify and thus expanded his company
Buenaventura, incorporating the Recuperada, Uchuchaccua and Orcopampa
mines.

Five years after his departure towards eternity, as we already mentioned, on

February 12, 2014, Don Alberto Benavides de la Quintana is and will continue
to be recognized as one of the managers that has led mining to become into
one of the activities most important in Peru, not only for its economic
contribution, but for its integrating effect with the high Andean communities
where it develops.
