Course overview
Catalog Description:

Introduction to computer-aided drafting using CAD/SOLIDWORKS software and sketching to generate two- and three-
dimensional drawings based on the conventions of engineering graphical communication; topics include spatial relationships,
multi-view projections and sectioning, dimensioning, graphical presentation of data, and fundamentals of computer graphics.

Student Learning Outcomes:

1. Use Graphical concepts of orthographic projection to represent 3D objects

2. Demonstrate the proper use of various graphs to display data within a design project.
3. Apply the engineering design process in solving a design problem
4. Demonstrate the ability to work as a team member in solving design a design problem.
5. Properly use geometric tolerance tables to find limit dimensions of connecting parts
6. Demonstrate the proper use of AutoCAD commands.

Instructor guidelines and policies

Attendance: All students should be punctual in their attendance and will be graded accordingly. A student who
misses more than 4 consecutive class days or 6 classes’ days total during the semester will receive a 0 for this
grade. Being tardy 3 times will equal 1 absent. Based on each student’s learning ability, it tis the opinion of the
college faculty that an excessive amount of absence will not allow the student to satisfactorily complete the course
objectives; therefore, the student has qualified him/herself to be dropped from the course.

Assignments: The students are completely responsible to do all work required outside the classroom. If there are
questions concerning the materials within the classroom, it is the student’s responsibility to find assistance. The
instructor is available for assistance during his office hours. Also, the instructor will be in his office Monday
through Friday; the student can set up a time to meet the instructor for assistance other than the office hours. The
class will not “spoon feed” any material to the students and in return will not expect students to memorize for the
exam. The class is intended to provoke thinking and learning by the effort the student put into thinking and
associated experiences.

Make-up Exams: Students are required to submit all assignments on or before the due date. No work will be
accepted late without penalty unless it has been extended for all class.

Cell phones: No cellphones are allowed during lectures.
