Having passed his M.A. in Sanskrit (Philosophy) in Ist Class, obtaining the highest marks, he has obtained Doctorate in research work on Varahmihir-Astrology from Jainarain Vyas University, Jodhpur. He is editing a magazine on Astrology ‘Agyat Darshan’ for the past 17 years. He has won several honours, awards and gold medals on Astrology and has been honoured by former President of India Giani Zail Singh with a crown, a gold medal and Angavastram, He has presided over several national and” international seminars and has visited abroad a number of times. One thousand articles have been written by him and he has predicted over 1500 events which have proved true. His three books in Vaastushastra (1) Sampuran Vaastushastra, (2) Commercial Vaastu and (3) Environmental Vaastu in Hindi and English have been published and have been enjoying popularity with the masses. — Publisher ‘Commercial Vaastu’ is the first book of its kind on professional architecture in which elaborate details about Commercial plots, hotel, shop, factory, interior decoration and techniques of building construction have been discussed. Where should be the entrance of the new factory, Where should the water tank in the factory area be located, Where should the fire-point be located, on which side should the bedrooms be located so that the individual gets sound sleep, What should be the shape of a commercial plot, What are the designs and methods prescribed by the holy scriptures for testing on piece of land, How are the auspicious moments for correct Vaastu determined, What are the materials needed for consecration of Vaastu Shanti? All these factors have becn very beautifully Portrayed by the renowned and internationally famous scholar, Dr. Bhojraj Dwivedi, in this book alongwith photographs and simple illustrations. Dr. Dwivedi believes that two factors determine the life of a human being-first is’the luck and the second Vaastu which carry identical importance. If an individual's stars are favourable and Vaastu is not favourable, then only half of the results will be achieved in spite of best efforts. If your Vasstu is favourable and the Stars are unfavourable, even then there will be some difficulties but lesser as compared to the situation when both Luck and Vaastu are unfavourable. In other words, if the construction is undertaken as per the laws of Vaastu Shastra, then the fate of a person can be modified. While buying a commercial plot, a trader or an entrepreneur should take into consideration various factors, such as shape of the plot, the Passages around it, quarters for labourers, storage of manufactured goods, godown and place for dumping the junk. The famous and scholarly writer hhas mentioned his own experiences during his visits abroad, the Chinese beliefs and Feng-Shui’s philosophic investigations. We are proud to present this book on Interior Decoration as per Vaastu. The main characteristic of this book is the presentation of the sixteen ‘Ganpatis’, as per our old texts, for removing the prominent defects of Vaastu Deficiencies, without making any structural changes. We are confident that this book will prove useful to our learned readers. =Pt. Gopal Sharma —(ceatrruve } Mother Goddess Saraswati’s blessings has motivated and encouraged me to write this book. At the same time I have been getting unflinching cooperation from my wife, Mrs, Janaki Dwivedi in writing this book who has been extremely busy in her household chores but has always been of help to me with her sweet and simple co-operation. My son, Pt. Romesh Dwivedi helped me day and night, leaving aside his own studies and pesonal work, He was especially helpful in typing photocopying, proof-reading and material research. So also my daughter-in-law rendered her help. My friends, admirers and diligent reader’s innumerable encouraging letters also helped me in writing this book for which I am grateful to all of them. A set of my 12 books on Vaastushastra, explaining its different aspects is being published. Among them this ‘COMMERCIAL VAASTU’ is third in the series which is in your hands. ‘ENVIORNMENTAL VAASTU’ and ‘SAMPURAN VAASTUSHASTRA’ have both been greately appreciated by the readers. As a result of constant and pressing demand from the readers, this third book is in your hands. Several critics allege that Vaastushasra has only been ptinto practice forthe past One decade o o, which isnot the cas. Five thousand years ago inthe age a Mahabharata, Vaastu: Science’ ‘Was at its zenith. In the texts of that period, Town Plana ing is mentioned in great detail. In that age, a Asura named Maye, who was an expert in Shilp Shastra, had composed an epic named faye Mahatmya’ which was considered extraordinary and istill available. In Dwapar Yug, Vishwakarma, the 1 | , the proponent of Vaastu Shastra hi built ite Golden Dwarka, where Lord Krishna had welcomed ‘Sodan, That Golden Dwarka, as per the wishes of Lord Kri i i in the Sea, knowm as Bet Dwarka, eee Some 21, 650,96 years in Treta Y i practice Vensta Vigan at ariel pase fn Oe sae crs Lankons Reros had helped Rama in establishing the famous Rameshwaram Jyotirlin through Vaastu Shastra, According to evidence availabe in ancient Hindu epics, the Puranas, Lord Shiva constructed the gloden city in his mental imagination and had it conserated by the father of Ravan, Later Lord iva gave it away to him as i shure gave tte one eee to Acharya. That golden Lanka, in In several of the Paranas, the laws of Vaastu Sci is aranas, ence are discussed. Several Mantras are available in the Vedas on Vaastu Shanti. ‘Therefore Vaastu Shastra i i i Vaastu Shastra is as ancient and old asthe Vedas, nether has a beginning ‘VAASTUSHASTRA IS NOT ONLY MEANT FOR HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS AND POSH HOUSES BUT IT ALSO HELPS IN CONSTRUCTION OF SMALL HUTS. Often several of our friends write that Vaastu is . e Shastra is mostly used by big businessmen, factory-shop owners, owners of high-rise buildings and posh houses andis rarely used by poor people, This a misconception on ‘aastushastra. Just as sun rays affect everyone irrespective of his being rich 8 oor posr, in the same way knowledge of Vaastu Shastra, which is based on five elements of earth, water, sky, fire and air, affects rich and poor alike, without any discrimination. It depends upon an individual's capability as to how best be can make use of this priceless knowledge. ‘There is a very authentic proof of Vaastu Shastra in the construction of a thatched hut which I would like to share with my readers. Lord Rama, during his exile in jungles, constructed a hut of grass. After ensuring the air and light arrangements, which were according to Vaastu Shastra, Lord Rama was very pleased and commented “Oh Lakshman, we will worship the presiding diety of this hut Ze. Vaastu Devia because people wishing for along life must observe Vaastu Shanti. ” Can there be any other proof of the greatness and usefulness of Vaastu Shastra? aden arequrest aie Farkstfae | — afore, arate ATT TAA BIE 4 / PAE 22 [OULD WE PAY ATTENTION TO VAASTU SHASTRA WHILE LIVING IN A RENTED HOUSB ? Several strange letters are received by us from the persons staying in rented house and the tenants ask as to why should the ill-effects of Vaastu Shastra bother them? If the Vaastu of the building is not in order, its effect should be on the owner of the Louse i. the Landlord. My humble Submission to such friends is that one needs a boat to cross the river and a ship to cross the sea. If there isa hole in the boat, then the traveller is likely to be in trouble, whether the boat is owned by him or taken on rent. In the same way if the Vaastu of a house is unfavourable, it brings trouble both for the occupants as also the owner. Therefore, special attention should be paid to Vaastu Shastra, irrespective of the fact whether you are owner or a tenant. MANY FACTORIES, INDUSTRIAL UNITS AND HOUSES ARE LYING HALF BUILT ? WHY CAN'T THEIR CONSTRUCTION BE COMPLETED ? We find in our ‘daily life that construction of many a factory commences with fanfare, but they remain incomplete midway. There are ‘saveral houses where one story is complete but construction is not completed. ‘There are several houses where structure is constructed but plastering is not yet over. Ifthe plaster is, in some cases done, the painting 9 tc. remains to be done; door, decorations etc. are pending. In many cases, finances have run short where as much of the work of the houses, shops remains undone. what is the reason.? The reason is the absence of land Purification, proper digging and land worshipping (Bhoomi Pujan). The work of laying the foundation was not commenced after due consideration of aucpicious timings, People suffer because of non-observance of the above mentioned rules. If land purification and foundation work are commenced after considering the auspicious timings, much difficulties would not arise at all, DOES VAASTUSHASTRA AFFECT ONLY THE HINDUS AND NOT THE CHRISTIANS OR MUSLIMS ? Some periodicals, in anti-vaastu write-ups had raised similar questions. My submission is that the rays of sun affect Hindu, Muslim or Christian alike without any discrimination. However, no two minds are alike; nor is their power of understanding the same. This can be illustrated by an example as— “Five blind men came across an elephant. One of them ‘caught it by its tail and said that it was like a grass broom. The second man caught its trunk and said that it was like a water fountain thick at the top and thin from below. The third caught hint By the ear and said that it was like a thatch. The fourth caught him by its back and said that it was like mountain while the fifth one who caught him by its leg said it was like a pole.” A part of universal truth was described by different persons differently because of their limited outlook. This can be explained with following example also. To avoid strong heat of the sun, one man took shelter under a temple’s interior, another in a mosque’s, the third under the mineret of Gurdwara, the fourth one rested in a pyramid and the fifth one took an umbrella, The Purpose was the same but the methods adopted were different, The different human civilizations, based on their caste and religious rituals, believe in the Vaastu Kala with different specifications and outlooks. They have their own beliefs and standards as well as criteria. But there is no civilization in the world which does not accept the established Vaastu Kala and art of building construction, Prof. Talbore Hamelin, architect of an American University wrote a voluminous book ‘Architecture through the ages’ which was published in New York in 1838, In his book he has mentioned about the laws of Vaastu Kala of various civilizations viz, Egyptian, Roman, East Asian and West Asian, Japanese, Islamic and even Christian. The descriptions mentioned there are worth noting. It is, therefore, wrong to assert that the knowledge of Vaastu is confined to the Hindus only. 10 indu belief, East directions respectable because of its providing the fetnieetsen ‘every morning. W HAVANA KUNDA Fig.2 CAN VAASTU BE CORRECTED WITHOUT DISMANTLING THE STRUCTURE? Some inquisitive friends often enquire whether the Vaastu of already constructed structures such as place of worship, kitchen, toilet and bathroom in a house, shop, factory or industry can be corrected? My humble submission is that those who suggest dismantling of such structures are not having the deep practical knowledge of Vaastu Shastra. I have seen in cities like Shimla, Mumbai, Delhi where people actually live in just one room. The same room has different compartments used for sleeping, worshiping, kitchen, bathroom etc. In such a situation, when there is shortage of space for independent construction and when people live in flats where there is not much scope of demolishing any structure, the different zones like fire points, bathroom, place of worship, safe, sleeping compartment can be set up in right directions according to the laws of ‘Vaastu Shastra, which gives relief to a great extent. To further minimise the evil effects of anti-Vaastu use ofthe space, we recommen types of Lord Ganpaty, whi beneficial to the ee De eee aaa There are many other mathods which have been very effective for Vaastu Shanti, such as Shri-Yantra, Kali-Yantra, Bagula Mukhi Yantra, Maruti-Yantra, Siddha-Bisa Yantra, Indrani-Yantra, Vyapar Vridhi Yantra etc. 12 It isnot, therefore, necessary to resort to demolition. What is needed is the right counsel of an experienced Vaastu Shastri ‘OUR HOUSE DOES NOT CONFORM TO THE VAASTU LAWS, YET WE ARE HAPPY Some argumentative people write letters saying that their house is constructed according the Vaastu laws yet they are happy and prosperous. It is like saying, “We do not believe in God, nor in our mother and father, yet we are happy and prosperous.” Such people can deceive no one but themselves. They are also misguiding others. Ifyou are having blood cancer, you are happy till you have not got the requisite tests done. A boat, with a hole at its bottom, will land you in serious trouble as soon as itis sailed in water. Similarly an individual with unfavourable Vaastu will look happy and prosperous so long as his Luck is favourable to him. ‘As soon as the unfavourable situation arises, one will land oneself in. trouble from which it will be very difficult ot extricate himself. Every life is affected by two things-Luck and Vaastu 50% Luck and 50% Vaastu. If your stars are favourable but Vaastu is unfavourable, you will get only 50% results, despite best efforts. As against this, if your Vaastu is favourable and stars (Luck) are not favourable, then you will not suffer much, If construction is got done according to Vastu Shastra and Luck is also favourable, then one may experience much better results- Three of my books on Vaastu Shastra have been published so far. Iam happy that my enlightened readers have appreciated them very much. I get innumerable letters daily from my admirers which encourage me to present more and more useful material on this subject. I get several invitations to visit hotels, shops, high- rise buildings, factories, industrial and commercial complexes. I try to mect their requirements, as far as possible and try to satisfy them. But sometimes it is not possible due to personal reasons and time crunch. Thave been prompted and motivated by Shri Narenider Kumar, the Managing Director of Diamond Pocket Books to pen down this book on Commerical Vaastu for further benefit of my learned readers who I am confident, will welcome the same as they have done to my earlier publications. I am always ready to solve the Vaastu-related problems of my learned readers. —Dr. Bhojraj Dwivedi Agyatdarshan Karyalaya, 1-B Road, Behind Gole Building, Sardarpura, JODHPUR (Rajasthan)-342003 Tel : 31883; Fax : 0291-49093 13 ~ (Cenenij Chapter 1 The Ancient Vaastu -Science of Egypt And The 215 New Concept of Pyramidal Therapy Cures Chapter 2 Historical Conception of Water Architecture 31 Chapter 3 Evergreen Spots of Water Collection—Large 48 Ponds/Water Sheds Chapter 4 Major Source of Water Conservation— Water 56 Tanks Chapter 5 Auspicious Moment For Digging a Tubewell a) Chapter 6 Feng Shui—A Factual Assessment 68 Chapter 7 Inauguration of Vaastu-foundation 128 Chapter 8 Views On House -entry 1-140 Chapter 9 Vaastu and Interior Decoration + 160 Chapter 1 The Ancient Vaastu -Science of Egypt And The New Concept of Pyramidal Therapy Cures Fig.3 ‘The Pyramids of Egypt are, no doubt, famous throughout the world for their massive features, uncommon and wonderful construction as well as durability but more than that, they are famous for their magical effects. Now, even the scientists have come to believe in their magical effects. It has been proved by the scientific experiments that there are some kind of strange and unique energy waves, constantly at work, which affect the living as also the dead elements stored there in. The scientists have named this quality as “The. Pyramid Power.” In the shops, around the Pyramids in Egypt where herbs and articles used in Tantric knowledge (charms) and 15 experiments are sold, one can find caps or the shape of pyramids on sale. It is said that after wearing these caps for about fifteen minutes, the headache disappears. Not only in Egypt but also in other countries like America, France, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia etc. small-size pyramids made of cardboard, plastic and wood are being used for different purposes. In America these days, pyramids made of PVC are being sold like hot cakes. Being impressed by the pyramid power, in the hospitals in America and Australia, the plans are afoot to give them the shape of pyramids. Recently an American architect had given an advertisement that he can provide pyramid-shaped houses to the people, He has claimed that people who would live in those houses, will be healthy, intelligent and happy. In America these days, “Pyramidology” is extremely popular. After postage stamp and coin collecting, “Pyramidology” is the third most popular hobby. The residences and restaurants there are being constructed and shaped on the pattern of pyramids. In the state of Illinois, at a place called wordsworth, Mr. James Onan, owner of a construction company got a five-bedroom pyramid constructed, who lives in this pyramid with his wife and five children. Every week, hundreds of persons pay a fee of six dollars to visit to enjoy this house. Drinking of water placed in a pyramid helps in digestion. it also helps to cure tonsils, wounds, blisters and scratches heal easily after sitting in a pyramid. The patients with rheumatic arthritis as also with gastric troubles got rid of their ailments after sitting in a pyramid. This fact has come to light after ‘studies by national and international scientists. It is because of this reason that, in countries like America, France, Egypt, Czechoslovakia etc. as also in our country, ailments are treated with the help of artificial or synthetic pyramid. Research scholars believe that to remain healthy, the pyramid-treatment can, without doubt, be tried alongwith other methods of treatment and cure. The results of some important treatments and cures through pyramid treatment are given hereunder :— Patients with headache and toothache get rid of their pain after sitting in the pyramid. The modern scholar of the ‘Pyramid power’ Bobbis himself prepared a cap on the pattern of pyramid and tested after wearing it. Bobbis says that after wearing the cap, not only the headache disappears but at the same time many kinds of mental depression also disappear. These days in the hospitals, treating mental, neurotic and psychiatric cases, ‘Bobbis cap’ is being used. A young lady who was suffering from mental depression started sleeping in a pyramid and soon her depression ended and she started having sound sleep. In fact, after sitting for some time in the pyramid, the body becomes balanced, thereby dispelling distress. e Patients with rheumatic arthritis got rid of their ailment after sitting in the pyramid . e Wounds, blisters and scratches quickly heal up after sitting in the pyramid,. A middle-aged woman drank water kept in the pyramid for some days and also used it as lotion and applied it on her face. According to her, after some days people known to her remarked that she was looking much younger. In 1930, a French soldier Bobbis went as a tourist to the land of pyramids, Egypt. He went to see the massive Pyramid at Gizah. He saw a dead cat on the heap of garbage.-He was surprised that because of the humidity in the Pyramid, the, dead corpse of the cat had not decomposed nor was there any foul smell from its body. In other words, the corpse had become mummy. On return to his country, Bobbis got constructed model of a pyramid at Gizah and placed a dead cat in it. He was utterly surprised and pleased to find that the dead cat placed inthe model had become mummy. After this experiment, he arrived at a conclusion that neither a physician nor a chemical analyst had turned it into a mummy but the corpse automatically turned into a mummy alter being placed in the pyramid. This was clearly the result of the unique and strange power of the pyramid. 7 e The tonsils get cured after drinking water placed in a pyramid, eye-sight improves if eyes are washed with that water, digestion improves and pain in knee joints disappears if pyramid-water is applied on the joints. © During an experiment, some dogs were placed in a square, round and pyramid-shaped houses. After sometime, it was found that the dogs placed in the pyramid-shaped house were more intelligent, more abiding and in better health. On the basis of their experiments, Bill Schule and Ed petit have stated that any kind of sound or music played in the pyramid keeps re-sounding for a long time. It brings about a strange reverberation on the bodies of those present and gives peace to their minds and bodies. © When a tired man sits inside a pyramid, his fatigue disappears and he feels charging of new and fresh energy in his body. Those who perform Meditation have claimed that after meditating in a pyramid their mind concentrates very fast. Celebrated Reiki-Masters Shri Rajni Kant Upadhyaya from Delhi and Dr. V. Sukumaran from Chennai have Claimed tremendous reduction in the learning /healing process in their channels/patients. "While sitting in a pyramid, will power gets stronger. Many people got solutions to their complex problems while sitting in a pyramid, In our country also research and experiments are being conducted on pyramid treatment. In this field Sofia Tain Broach, originally an American, made courageous and exemplary efforts. Some 18 Years back, she started running a school for children, with a view to experimenting on the miraculous powers of the pyramid. She had placed a pyramid made of plywood in her backyard, which was 1.18 meter high. Its exterior was of blue colour and there 18 was a door and four glass-panes as windows. The pyramid was placed ona cement platform. The experiments conducted by her gave starling results as under :— A ten-year old boy was admitted in Sofia’s school. The boy suffered from sleeplessness (insomnia) and would not wink his eyes even once during the whole night. Sofia got made four pyramids of cardboard and hung the same with the help of threads on the boy’s bed. Very soon the boy’s sleeplessness was cured. Sofia’s 86-year old mother’s left hand was paralysed. when the treatment did not help, Sofia made her mother sit in the pyramid daily for 2-3 hours. Just after one week’s sittings, her mother was cured and started walking without showing any signs of paralysis. Similarly, a number of people suffering from paralysis were cured of their ailment after sitting in the pyramids. ¢ The bad habits of drinking, smoking or taking drugs can be cured if one sits daily in a pyramid for a short while. Vaastu Engineer Pandit Gopal Sharma has cured many patients and removed the Vaastu deficiencies of innumerable factories, offices and residential\commercial complexes with the help of various types of woodden plastic\Thermocole pyramids\ pyramid — Assemblies in his Astro-Vaastu Shodh Sansthan at Delhi. Shri Chanderbhan Satpathi, a senior officer of Delhi Police, has been regularly sitting in his home-made pyramid which is six feet high and is made of wood and microlight, at his residence in Netaji Nagar, as a result of which he was honoured several times for his remarkable services. Pyramid kept him in best of physical, mental and psychological state. Encouraged with his success he started prescribing free treatment for blood pressure, stress, sleeplessness, epilepsy und paralytic patients. For this, the patients have to sit in the 19 pyramid in a particular posture daily for 20 to 30 minutes for aweek. He tells that after his treatment, nine out of ten blood pressure patients, seventeen out of 20 mental and physical fatigue/ stress patients and five out of eight patients suffering from sleeplessness have been benefited. Fae Shri B.B. Krishnamurthy of Manipal Institute of Technology is also experimenting in this direction and some of the results of his treatment are as follows :— Bysitting in the pyramid daily for five to ten minutes, the will power of a person increases and better concentration, happiness and security is felt. If after too much of labour of hard work, one is made to sit in a pyramid for ten minutes, his tiredness will disappear and he will feel fresh. e Human beings apart, the treatment of plants and trees is possible with the help of pyramid. If we place the seeds in a pyramid before sowing them, they will sprout up better and faster. Diseased and unrelaxed 20 plants can also be stimulated and turned into healthy ones with the help of pyramid. For this, it would suffice if these plants are tied with a thread or wire to one end of the pyramid. We, thus, come to the conclusion that, with the help of pyramids, we can find cheap and simple treatment and cure many curable and presently so called non-curable ailments. WHAT IS THE SECRET OF PYRAMID'S INTERNAL POWER The Greek conquerers were startled and enamoured on seeing the wonderful construction of the sky-scraping, triangular shaped pyramids. They entered the pyramids in the list, which is now known as the Seven wonders of the world. In the present day when the facts of pyramids’ usefulness and miraculous power have come to light, the importance of pyramids has increased manifold To know about the benefits derived from the pyramids, it is essential to know as to what is special about these structures because of which a corpse placed at one-third height in a pyramid neither decays nor decomposes rather, it converts into mummy. Now the scientists have come to believe that the shape of the structure of pyramid is such that unprecedent energy gets collected at its top and from there it evenly travels to all the walls and touches the earth. It is so because all the walls have the same size and slope. In fact the miraculous energy-waves, that are at work inside a pyramid, affect both living and dead organs and elements. After reading the startling stories of the famous French tourist, Bobbis, about the pyramids, a Czechoslovak Radio engineer, Kar] Draval, also prepared a model of pyramid and conducted several experiments, the results of which are : « Any fruits, vegetables or eatables when placed in a pyramid, only dehydrate but do not decay. There has never been a complaint about only fruits gone bad. Meat and eggs placed in the pyramid such also do not get decomposed. 21 © Milk placed in the pyramid for several days over does not decay but later turns into curd. Tea, coffee and fruit juice placed in a pyramid taste much better. e Contaminated elements in water or other liquids, when placed in a pyramid, are destroyed. © The flowers placed in a pyramid get dehydrated only but ramain as they were, because they neither wither nor lose their colour, smell/fragrance. e There is no need to spray insecticides on grain stored in pyramid-shaped storages because grain remains free from insects. In Russia, pyramid-shaped grain storages and houses have been built with success. SIMILAR CLAIMS HAVE BEEN MADE BY THE OTHER RESEARCHERS FROM TIME TO TIME..... e Asenior police officer of Delhi, Shri Chander Bhan Satpathy, who has conducted experiments in his pyramid, has claimed that apples kept in the pyramid do not decay but remain fresh even after four months. e Sofia Tain Broach of Bangalore, on the basis of her experiments, has come to the conclusion that green/raw fruits and banana kept in a pyramid can be made to ripen soon. e Shri B.B. Krishnamurthy of the manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, took two samples of curd and kept one in the pyramid and another outside. After some days both the samples were examined and it was found that the sample kept outside the pyramid was more sour. B.B. Krishnamurthy also found out that milk kept in the pyramid as also in the fridge gets similar cream of milk at the top layer. ¢ According to a report, published in an American Science journal, a piece of meat was kept in a pyramid for experiment for 48 days. It had the taste of fresh meat. The same was the result about eggs, fish and vegetables. They all remained safe and fresh for a 22 long time. On the basis of above experiments, we can safely conclude that pyramid can be used as a fridge to preserve eatables. Encouraged by the successful experiments of Bobbis and Karl, containers, for milk and curd in France and Yugoslavia, are being manufactured on the pattern of pyramids. In fact, the fridge, refrigerator and cold storage of the present day look like pigmy in front of a pyramid, Since in the event of failure of electricity, these machines and cold storages are worthless. It is, therefore, clear that the builders of pyramids knew thw secret of minute and sensitive technique of Vaastu-Kala , nature’s electrifying and super- natural powers and could make use of them. The stored water fruits and vegetables can quench our thirst, fill our belly but they cannot infuse our body agility, freshness and smartness which is obtained by using these eatables kept in a pyramid, BUILD A PYRAMID AND EXPERIENCE MIRACLES FROM A FABRICATED PYRAMID Now there is no doubt about the magical prowesh of pyramids, which scientists, all over the world have come to admit and admire this cosmos energy. We can ourselves make a pyramid of cardboard, or thermocole very easily. Take a square piece of cardboard with all sides measuring. Take a thick nail and dig it in the centre of the cardboard and tie a thin thread with it. The lenght of nail, from the pencil, should be 10-11 inches. Draw a circle with the help of the thread. The point where the nail was dug is the centre of the circle. From the centre of the circle take any point in the circumferences, With the help of the thread bisect the circumference at a length of 9.3 inch at point No. 1. Similarly follow this practice upto points 2 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 with lines with the help of a pencil, Now with the help of pencil 23 Fig. 5 draw dotted lines from the centre point of the circle towards. 1,2, 3,4, and 5, With the help of a sharp knife or blade cut all the lines, You will thus get five triangular pieces out of which four would be equal in all respects. The fifth triangle will be useless for you and can be thrown away. Then paste these four identical triangles on a card board and prepare a pyramid. you now have a pyramid with opening at the top. We can build smaller or larger pyramids in this manner. For this we can take cardboards of different sizes in same proportions . HOW TO USE A PYRAMID The following points should be taken care of while using the pyramids : For the purpose of experiment, whatever stuff is desired to be kept in the pyramid, it should be at a height of 2 to 3 inches from the ground and placed in the middle of the 24 pyramid. To get good results. For better results, it is better to place the article at one-third height of the pyramid. For treatment of patients, larger-size pyramids can be made. Out of which the most effective place is the king’s mansion (chamber) as proved by scientific experiments. It is for this reason that the magical effect of the pyramid is more (Pronounced) at this place which is at the centre of the pyramid at one-third height of the structure. It is very important to set the direction of the pyramid because, if not properly used, it can prove harmful. Therefore, while using the pyramid, it should be placed in North-South direction. If, by any mistake, the correct direction is not used, the people sitting in the pyramid can get headache, giddiness. With the increasing popularity of pyramids, throughout the world, it can be concluded that pyramids might start selling like household articles, and the housewives, while asking for daily necessaties of life like vagetables, fruits, might ask for getting a pyramid for household use. THE STRUCTURE OF EGYPTIAN PYRAMIDS From outside the pyramids look rough, crude and unchiselled. They do not look beautiful nor do they have carvings and engravings, like Taj Mahal. They have neither the height of Qutub Minar, nor the beauty of the figures in Ajanta and Ellora. Even then their Vaastu-Art is wonderful and startling. In fact, the ancient inhabitants of Egypt had attained the heights of Vaastu-Science of which the pyramids are the living examples and have become mystery for the whole world. The pyramid construction in Egypt is the first man-made unique and marvellous structural formation which, even after 4600 years, stands out as the superior most of all the present day constructions. Which are well known as pyramids. It was a custom in Egypt that the king, in his lifetime, would have a massive pyramid constructed; where he could be buried after his death, In fact, immediately after ascending the throne, the 25 king would start worrying about the construction of his grave. Man has progressed much in the field of science and has acquired technology to preserve the dead bodies with the help of chemicals for longer periods. But he is far behind the ancient Egyptians with regard to this knowledge. These are pyramid shaped memorials. The base of these Stony structures is squaresh and they have four sloping and idential triangles which meet at the top. Their base is squaresh while the rest of the shape is identical to triangles which are attached to in fact it is a square plat-from. To reach the mansion below, there is a tunnel from the top of the Stupa. The different rooms of the Stupa, ie, sitting room, bath room, kitchen etc. were decorated with precious metals and pearls. In a special room of the stupa a box was placed. The tunnel would be closed after getting out and then it was not possible to trace the tunnel. Therefore, it was not easy to locate the preserved corpse (dead body). The origin of word ‘Pyramid’ is from Egyptian language word ‘Pir-Am-Aus’, Which means some construction of a very large height. The green wood Pyramid has been carved out of the Egyptian term. In the seventeenth century, English language adopted the name ‘Pyramid’ in a singular number and this name is thus mostly in use. But the work ‘Pyramid’ is basically Greek which is based on two words (‘Pira’ and ‘Midos). In Greek ‘Pyra’ means fire and ‘Midos means measurement. Here fire is known as light which shines over the darkness of ignorance and spreads knowledge. Another idea about the naming of the Pyramid is that in Egypt the tomb of the king is the plural of ‘Heram’ ie. Ahram and it is known in English as ‘Pyramid’. Ear-marking of appropriate direction in a Pyramid is quite essential because, there can be harm if not properly used. While using a Pyramid, it is necessary to keep in North-South direction. if Pyramid is not placed in the requiste direction, the persons sitting therein may suffer from headache. The story of Egypt’s Pyramid is almost 4600 years old. 26 These pyramids are located on a rocky plateau, ten miles from the capital city of Cairo. Their height is around 130 feet. They are located on the Western bank of river, Nile. On a one square mile man-made plateau there stand the triangular pyramid- marvellous, fantastic and wonderful. The construction of Egyptian pyramids commenced around 2686-2613 B.C. The first pyramid was constructed during the period of Ferrad Josser (2606-2520) B.C. During that period the king of Egypt was known as the pharoah. One can see a large number of pyramids in Egypt even today. Nearly 30 among them are prominent. out of these, three pyramids of Giza are most famous. All the three pyramids were constructed in nearly 2600-2525 B. C. which were for King Kufu or Cheops, Chephrem and Mycerinus. Most famous of all these three pyramids as also massive and significant is the pyramid of Cheops (2545-2520), son and heir of seneferu. This is also known as the pyramid of Giza. King Cheops got this pyramid constructed as his own memorial. After his death, his dead body was buried in this pyramid, which has been constructed with great skill. Historian Herodotous believes that 1,28,000 persons worked for 20 years to build it and the same number of persons worked for ten years to build a road on all its four sides. This pyramid is so massive and large that all the grand buildings of Washington can be contained in it. It is located near a village known as ‘Kafr-e-Saman’ about five miles from Cairo in lower Egypt. When the pyramid was ready after construction, its height was 481 feet. Now its height is 458 feet and 31 feet have disappeared from the top. Even then, this pyramid is higher than a 40-storey skyscraper. The Qutub Minar of Delhi is lower and smaller than it. Its, each foundation is 755 feet long, It is spread in an area of 13.1 acres and, to make one round of it, one has to walk about one kilometer. In this pyramid, which is made of granite and limestone, 27 nearly 23-24 lakh stones have been used. The weight of these stones varies from 2-3 ton to 16-17 tons. Most of the stones are twice the size of a man. The total weight of this pyramid is nearly 65 lakh tons. Even if all the major trains of the world are joined up, they will not be able to pull it. Its polish shines like a glass from a distance. Nepoleon Bonaparte, who had attacked Egypt saw these pyramids and estimated that the material used in them could be sufficient to build a ten feet high and one foot wide wall around the whole of France. This technique signifies Egypt’s ancient inhabitants’ overall knowledge, their scientific and Vaastu-art attainments. INTERNAL CONSTRUCTION OF PYRAMID OF CHEOPS (1) King’s chamber, (2) Passage for Air, (3) Middle Chamber, (4) Large corridor, (5) Exit (6) Straight passage to Queen’s chamber, (7) Queen’s chamber, (8) Underground cellar. CONSTRUCTION OF PYRAMID The descending angle of the pyramid is 51° 51 minutes (S1°, 51’). Why this angle is not 60 degree? To go deeper into this question, John Tailor, a pyramid researcher came to the conclusion that this was deliberately done, because the area of the base of each wall of the pyramid was equal to the square of its height. This amplitude can be arrived at only if we stick to the angle 51°, 51’. The angle of pyramid’s descending route is 26°17’. According to Smith, this desceding route has been deliberately kept in straight line with the Pole-Star. In this route, any two points make a straight line towards the pole Star. According to Astronomer, Harshail, about 4600 years ago when pyramid was constructed, a star named Alfa Dracronis was known as Pole Star. But today a star named Poloris is known as Pole Star, because earth’s axis makes an angle of 45° after every 25,000 years. For this reason, Pole Star keeps changing. All these things were prepared so carefully and meticulously, after weighing all the pros and cons, that 28 there dose not appear any difference anywhere, even after very minute inspection. There is another speciality or characteristic in the amplitude/expansion/width of the pyramid : — Fig. 6 Charles Piyaji Smith, Astronomer of Scotland used to say that with the help of pyramid, we could determine the correct measure of pie (7), correct measure of Earth’s matter and circumference and also determine the Earth’s distance from the Sun. According to the calculations of William Philanders Pate, if we divide the base of pyramid with half the height of the structure, the quotient is not a complete unit. It remains 3.14285, which is almost equal to the measurment of pie (x) because the measure of pie (rr) is 3.142857. Now the question 29 arises as to what is a pie (zt) ? Pie (72) is known as proportion between the diameter and circumference of a circle. The proportion between the base and height of a pyramid shows that the builders of the pyramid knew that Earth is round. The outcome of the pyramid of Giza represents the Earth and shows its semi-diameter. In the same proportion, the area of the base of the Pyramid denotes the Earth’s Northern hemisphere. The chambers and passages etc. inside the pyramid are inter-related to each other and also connected to the Earth and its other satellites. Modern engineering experts, connected with large building construction, have said that the method with which solid stones, weighing 2-3 tons to 15-16 tons, have been taken to such heights and placed there on correct angles is nothing short of a miracle. In fact the angular placement of the stones is marvellous feat of engineering. Even today it is not possible to construct a building by placing such heavy stones in angular fashion even with the help of large cranes and ultra modern machinery. While constructing the walls of the pyramids, the stones have been so skillfully and beautifully joined that it is not possible to know as to where the joint exists. It is established that the construction of the pyramids is absolutely faultless. Their another speciality (or characteristic) is that every part of the pyramid, every chamber, every passage, or for that matter every detail of its construction, is full of mystery. A Greek historian Josephus has written, at one place, that planning and construction of pyramids , in ancient Egypt, was determined after a great deal of thought. Their situation, measurements, internal and external symbols and marks of distinction; almost everything, is manifestation of one or the other natural rule. 30 Chapter 2 Historical Conception of Water Architecture Fig. 7-WATER TANK OF TODA RAI SINGH To attain salvation or liberation from the cycle of birth and death, two paths eg. (1) the path of Bhakti (devotion/homage) and (2) the path of knowledge were expounded in this country centuries long ago. In path of Bhakti, worship of various gods with devotional hymns and 31 songs were prescribed. Temples were built for gods. The abodes of gods were built where clean and fresh water was available. In the composition Vrihtsamhita by Varahamihir, it is mentioned that gods reside near rivers, jungles, mountains and lakes. wine adatatigiter fire wR faa fet Qyererqi The situation of places of pilgrimage has thus been located in the same manner on the banks of river , streams or shores of the sea. It is described in ‘Vishnudharmottar’ too that the idols of gods should be established or erected at sacred places on the banks of rivers or streams or in forts and gardens. In fact, water is indispensible for human life and its existence. Keeping this factor in mind, the ancient sages and rishis built their ashrams on the banks of rivers and watersheds. All the ancient civilizations of the world prospered and developed on the banks of rivers or streams. Lord Shiva’s penance on Mount Kailash near Mansarover and his eternal stay in Varanasi (Kashi) on the banks of river Ganga, Lord Vishnu resting in Ksheersagar-the great ocean and staying of Lord Brahma on the Lotus coming out of the naval of Lord Vishnu; are some of the religious examples that give credence to the importance of water. In ‘Arnaya Kand’ of the ‘Ramayana’ by ‘Balmiki,’ there is mention of a stream called Pampa Pushkarini and its banks and of fragrant Lotus flowers which never fade. In Sunderkand, Lord Hanuman had seen in Ashok Vatika such beautiful watertanks in which A of yellow colour were blooming. (#ieeret There used to be such watersheds inside which there was place to stay, because Kalidas in his drama ‘Raghuvansh’ (13th Sarga, Shloka 38-40) had mentioned about a water-sport filed in the mansions of which there used to be dance and song recitals, Because of five nymphs it was named ‘Panchapsar’ In the large water-tanks in Abaleri (Distt. 32 Jannore) such mansions can be seen even today. The water-tanks at all these places date back to the period of pratihars and are inimitable and most excellent creations of Rajasthan’s cultural heritage. Kalidas in ‘Meghdoot’ (Uttarmegha:, 13-17) has explained, through Yaksha, about the watertank in his house the stairs of which were studded with sapphires. (facraga ara) In Rajasthan many watertanks and watersheds were constructed. It was necessary to keep the water clean after the rains. In the initial period-water-tank of Ambleshwar of shung period is worth mentioning because it is round and constructed with stones. Near the watertank a pillar pertaining to Shung period with Brahmi script inscribed on it. has been discovered. A similar watertank has been discovered in Bhilwara District by the author which, people believe, was constructed by the Pandavas. But of all the water-tanks that now exist in Rajasthan, most of them are square shaped. Abaneri, Osian, Bhinmaal, Todaraisingh, Bundi and Khetri have square shaped water-tanks. Though the ancient writers and experts, who mentioned earth as round in their books of knowledge, but they determined the man made creations of homes, palaces etc, as square-shaped. They were given the square shape perhaps to see that the rays of the sun should fall on them evenly, The stairs of all of them are made of mass of stones. Barring a few, all of them had provision for storage of fresh water. The situation is now changing from good to bad which calls for fresh thinking about our environment. GRAND VIEW OF WATER STORAGE Water is life and it is considered a sacred cause to provide water to all. To provide water, rieh-and prosperous people, and sometimes even ordinary people arrange for digging of wells, ponds and tanks. A well is a deep ditch whose walls are made 33 ‘Fig. 8— GRAND VIEW OF WATER STORAGE of bricks or stones. At the top, its wall is high so that no external article or garbage, animal or children may fall into it. ‘Water is drawn with the help of a string or a rope tied to a bucket, small drum or a wooden pitcher. Generally, there is no Vaastu technique involved in it but in the Shekhavati area of Rajasthan very very deep wells are dug and water is drawn with the help of a water-wheel which is then used for animals, houses and also for irrigation, whenever required. In this manner a raised platform around the well is erected and four pillars are constructed; which are decorated with pictures. Ponds and watersheds are another source of water, wherein mostly rain water gets collected. There is a quay or a wharf constructed around it which have stairs and platform where people take bath, sit or wash clothes. The refined or organised 34 shape of the pond is a well. In Rajasthan the word Baavdi or aay (aast aaa aa) means a special kind of water storage where there is a large well or a pond and there are stairs to go upto the water which is divided into various levels. Such water tanks are mostly in vogue in Rajasthan and Gujarat. In the Vaastu Shastra, methods are available with the help of which their construction is undertaken. In the ancient rock-inscriptions the descriptions of “Baavdi’ in its Sanskrit equivalent ‘Vaapi’ are available from the Ist century AD, but perhaps its Vaastu shape was determined later. It is also definite that ‘Baavdi’ or large water tank was not built with such elaborate design. Its development was gradual. We get detailed information about the ‘Baavdi’ from the famous writings on Vaastu Shastra of the North such as ‘Samarangan Sutradhar’ (RAM FAA) ‘Aprajit Prichha’ (atrafsra Y=) ‘Raj Vallabh’ (St FeAH) “Vaastu Saar” (@TET AR) etc. and of the South ‘Parampra Ke Maansar’ (ERT AMER) Mayemat (744@) and Vishvakarma Vaastu Shastra (farvercenf areqy ee) 1 In the Chapter 74 of ‘Aprajit Prichha’ there is mention of four kinds of Baavdis (large water tanks) viz. ‘Nanda’ which has one entrance door and three narrow exits, such a ‘Baavdi’ fulfills all the wishes. A beautiful Baavdi with two entrance doors and six narrow exits is called ‘Bhadra’. ‘Jaya’, a Baavdi is rare to find even by gods, has three doors and nine narrow exists and ‘Sarvatomukhi’ (wéar7@h) Baavdi has four doors and 12 narrow exits. This famous work (Granth) explains the boons granted to the king who constructs such a ‘Baavdi’. ‘Vishvakarma Vaastu Shastra’ is the oldest book that explains, in detail the construction relating to the Baavdi (large water tanks). In its 3rd chapter the characteristics or ‘Vapi’ are explained. It would be quite pertinent to give a brief gist of this chapter. It is said that ‘Vaapi’ or a large water tank should be constructed only on that land which has indication existing of 35 sweet water below. Normally, a Vaapi should be constructed in a square, rectangular or in round shape. There should be:.one, two or four gates. The measurement of one side of the bottom central floor should be 10 feet and its depth should also be ten feet from the top layer of water. A wall of bricks or stones should be constructed above it. A little above the water level there should be a square open space measuring one thousand feet. Further stairs leading upwards should be constructed and pillars should be based on them to make platfroms. Here the Vaastu writer lays more stress on ‘scheme’ or ‘skill.’ The architecture may be based on pillars or without pillars but the joining points should be strong. The Baavdi looks beautiful with the help of footrests and stairs. Its main entrance should have doors so that children may not fall into it. If the Vaapi is round, then order of construction of stairs should be like snake-coil. If the Vaapi is not round then the satirs should be straight. On its band there should be water-wheel for taking out water and there should be a courtyard around which should be decorated with idols of gods. For the sake of decoration, the banks should be double-edged wherein the idols of gods should be placed for (glimpse of idols) the benefit of people. In connection with the place for setting up the large water tank ‘Baavdi’, it can be said that mostly these were constructed adjoining the temples. People used to construct large water tanks near the temples and there used to be a garden also with it. That was the tradition, like the ‘Chaand Baavdi’ near the temple of ‘Harshat Mata’ in Abhaneri. One benefit of having a large water tank at the entrance of a city was that the pilagrims could stay there, have their bath, offer prayers and also eat something. The water tank built by the Panna the chief servant of Sawai Jaisingh (in Aamer-Nagar) provides water for pilgrims even today. In those days large water tanks used to be built near the Dharamshalas and Sarais 36 (Taverns) for the benefit of pilgrims. The Sarai of Aamerand water tank there fall in this category. The construction of large water tanks, as stated above, used to be undertaken by prosperous people of the society, which comprised of the members of royal family, members of royal court and traders but occasionally even the servants and the less privileged people also used to construct the water tanks as a virtuous deed to earn religious bliss. CHAND BAAVDI OF ABANERI-UNIQUE AND UNPARALLED IN WATER ARCHITECTURE In the desert climate of Rajasthan, the place of water architecture is important and signficant. This is substantiated by the fact as to how the residents there have proved equal to the difficulties of the climate and reacted to it. In Rajasthan, the work of construction of Baavdi, Vapi, well ponds, water tanks etc. was not confined only to the welfare of the people, but also spread to religious and cultural affairs and centres. Due to lack of normal rainfall and rivers with all the year round having no regular water flow, these Baavdi and water tanks were the main source of water. The passing caravans, the pilgrims and tourists as also the passing army units could identify these water sources even from a distance because of. architectural signs constructed above them. In Rajasthan, the tradition of construction of Baavdi, well and water tanks was in existence since ancient times. There is mention on the ancient rock inscriptions about the water tanks with stairs leading down to water level. In Gangdhar village, near Jhalawar, period (Vikrami Era 480-423 AD) in the records of Gupt there is mention of Temple of Mother goddess and consturction of Vaapi. In the medieval times, the work of construction of Vaapi, well and water tank was considered auspicious for religious activities. Vhere are several examples about donations being given for construction or renovation of Vaapi, wells etc. by the people in the memory of their family members whose names are 37, inscribed in the rocy inscriptions. The mention of Pushkar Lake which has stairs around it. is one of such examples which finds its place in the victory Pillar of Nandsa (Mewar) of Vikrami Era 284 (227 AD). Details of inscriptions of seventh century AD as also their relics continue to come to light which indicate the construction and tradition of Baawdi and Vaapi. There is mention of artisen and craftsmen of Bhimnal (Marwar) in 741 Vikrami Era (684 AD) as also the relics of the period inthe ancient city of Nagar in the seventh century. Nearly around this period (770 Vikrami Era-713 AD) the rock inscriptions of Chittorgarh Fort and the Shiv Mandir of Shankarghatta of Chittor rock inscriptions about the Baavdi of Surya Mandir and Mansarovar by King Manbhang. This Baavdi is situated in the Surya Temple near Chittorgarh Fort which was built in eighth century and is now known as Kalika Temple. In addition there is another ancient Baavdi in Mandore (Jodhpur) which has been constructed in ‘L’—Shape, after cutting the rocks in Vikrami Era 742 (685 AD). Near this Baavdi there is a stone-slab on which photo-idols of Lord Ganesh and Seven Goddesses are inscribed. These Mediaeval Goddesses are the presiding deities of this Baavdi. In the later period, several of the Baavdi, Lakes and Watersheds of Mewar, Shekhavati, Haaroti and Marwar are famous for their architecture. Among them, Rajsamudra Janasagar and Trimukhi Baawdi of Mewar, Garhseesar of Jaisalmer, Bhoot Baavdi of Shekhavati, the Baavdi of Tulsiano and Aanasagar of Ajmer are worth mentioning. The construction of Baavdi or Baav was undertaken around the water sourace by providing stairs and shaded chambers and in addition to storing water, these were utilized as resting places and religious centres. ___ Inthe from of religious diety, idol of god or goddess was installed there. Therefore, the construction or renovation of a Baavdi was considered as sacred and important as 38 constructing a temple or performing a yagna (sacrifice). There is mention about these in Matsyapuran and other religious books. Members of royal families and people belonging to aristocratic community used to donate for construction of ponds and Baavdis. This fact is substantiated by various records. Lahini, the sister of the Parmar ruler of Vasantgarh (Sirohi) had got renovated the ‘Lavan Baav’ in 1099 Vikrami Era. Similarly many a Baavdi near Udaipur was constructed by the royal families. Around that village called Jagat, in a temple of Goddess Ambika, there is a pillar bearing/denoting period as Vikrami Era 1017 whereon it is mentioned that anyone who renovates the Baavdi or well will be blessed with equal favours that are granted to the one who constructs them. Therefore, in social and religious life the importance of well or a Baavdi was like a religious performance. Normally, the place of the presiding diety was also constructed in the Baavdi. In Sanskrit literature the use of words like Vaapi, Vaapika, Kund, Tadag and sarovar denotes the ponds and wells where water is stored through special process. In Hindi, Baav or Baavdi has its origin from Vaapi or Vaapika in Sanskrit, which means rows of five or seven stairs to reach the water level. Tadag or Kund means the storage areas where the rainwater is collected. Vaapi or Baavdi is constructed around natural source of water. In the construction of Baavdi with stairs has its proximity or form normally connected with a Kund or Vaapi. Therefore, a Vaapi has mainly three divisions or organs : (1) a well or perpendicularly placed round walls where water is drawn through a Persian wheel. (2) Shaded chambers based on pillars over the stairs., and (3) Kunds or ponds with stairs onall the four sides where the water is stored for drinking, bathing etc. In some of the Baavdis there are separate ponds for human beings and animals. The pond of a Baavdi has the shapes of a rectangle or a square or an octagon. Its water level is much below the ground level. Therefore, planning of stairs is done in a sequence and 39 space gap so that rising and receding water-level should not be a hurdle in their use. In the pre-mediaeval time of eighth-ninth centuries’ Baavdi of Prathihar period, The Baavdis of Abaneri and Osian are most brilliant and ancient. Abaneri is situated 8 kilometers from Bandikii Railway Station on Delhi-Bandikui highway. The Vaishnu temple adjoining the Baavdi, is now known as Temple of Harshat-Mata. Among the relics available from the idols of gods and other idols at the Baavdi as also Vaastu and carvings of Mahishasur Mardini and Lord Ganesha and other goddesses, it appears that there was a temple of gods adjoining the Baavdi. The Baavdi of Abaneri, which is now known as Chaand Baavdi fulfils the social and religious needs of the residents there. Because water holds a prominent place in the Indian civilization and culture, being connected to the festivals, daily worship and other rituals, the Baavdi has a prominent bearing on our cultural life. In addition, this baavdi has separate arrangement for drawing water for animals and for irrigation from the respective wells. Because of mud and clay collection, the well has been closed. Inside the Baavdi, there are two small idols of goddesses which get submerged when rainwater rises above the level of Baavdi. There is a place adjoining the Baavdi which has several chambers, windows and a terrace standing on pillars. Although there is no testimony available as to the records thereof, but sculpture, Vaastu Kala (art) or ornamantal motifs and other periodic relics bear testimony to their being of the same period as those of temples of Mandore and Neelkanth (Alwar). Based on this estimate, it can be said to be motifs on windows of structures on pillars, laughing lion with a string of pearls, tree-branches full of mango fruits, servants carrying drinking vessels, couples engaged in dancing and also paintings of horse riders in orderly rows. According to ‘Aprajit Prichha’ and ‘Vishvakarma Vaastu Saar’, Baavdis of such square-shaped and stair-studed and 40 tour side-open can be classified in the grade of vijaya (victory) Vappi. There is a pond in it, with eleven-stair-rows on three sides and goddesses on the fourth side. Being a part of water architecture, various idols or goddesses and gods connected with water are inscribed, Varun (god of water) and reclining Vishnu, alligators or idols of seven mother-goddesses are also inscribed, In the chamber of Lord Ganesh, there is a scene of decoration inscribed. Here a dancers inscribed with her table player and the shapes of two couples on both sides are shown. In addition, a slab of Uma-Maheshwar is also worth mentioning. The top floor part of the Baavdi seems to have been constructed again after its renovation in post-mediaeval period. In the architecture of this storey motifs of Moghul architecture have been built around the four corners of the Baavdi. Even today, this Baavdi of Abaneri village is the source of their water requirements. THE BAAVDI BINOTA—A UNIQUE EXAMPLE OF ARCHITECTURE The Baavdi of Binota, situated in Bari Saadri area of Chittorgarh district is a matchless specimen of architecture. Situated at one end of Binota village, this Baavdi was constructed by a Jagirdar Suraj Singh Shaktavat nearly 350 years ago. Suraj Singh was earlier resident of Satola. The then Maharana of Mewar had conferred a Jagir to him after which he built this Baavdi. The construction ofthe Baavdi of Binota was undertaken with the building stones available in that area. Constructed by the skilled workers by giving artistic shape to white stone, this Baavdi, which is a unique structure of its period, is decidedly worth-seeing. It is generally believed that Baavdi of Binota, the Palace of Athaney and Karera (Bhopal-Sagar) Jain ‘Temple were constructed by the same artisan. For entering the Baavdi of Binota there are artistic stairs on all the four sides. Proceeding further these stairs lead to the water level after passing through four magnificient doors constructed on all the four sides. Before reaching the doors, a there are 27 stairs each on all the four sides. The Eastern and Western gates of the Baavdi face each other and there are two storeys. Beautiful flowers and plants as also birds are inscsribed on the arch-typé doors. This area is closed and one can enter the Baavdi through the other three doors. From the underground pond of Mahadev Temple of Gangmer, situated near Binota, water reaches the Baavdi. To take this water to Baavdi there is beautiful Gomukh (Cow’s mouth) on the Northern closet. During rainy season, water falls into the Baavdi form this Gomukh. To prevent attack through the three doors and entry through them, there is a beautiful and artistic closet built in so that people may sit or stay there. The parapet walls of this closet are beautifully built and they are worth-seeing. There is space for walking or strolling at all the three doors in such a way that one can go from one side to on other side of the Baavdi through the small windows constructed there. Initially the water from the Baavdi used to be taken out through aift. As the time passed, two wooden persian wheels wete installed. Presently it has been electrified and water is. used for irrigation. A pond has been constructed for drinking water for animals. On the Southern window of the Baavdi there is a beautiful verandah where artistic rock carving on pillars is worth seeing. During water-festival of Ekadashi, the Thakurs of the village would sit with other respectable citizens and watch the acrobats of swimmers. Ata hillock, at this histocic place of the district, there is an ancient fort, the relics of which exist there even now. Here one can find temples of four-armed Mata Amba. ‘THE MAGNIFICIENT BAAVDI OF BHANDAREJ The Bhandarej village situated eleven kilometers from Dausa, is no less important from mythological angle. During Mahabharat times, this place was known as Bhadravati Nagar and King Bhadrasen was its ancient ruler. In Bhandarej there 42 1s a large and extraordinary Baavdi which is known by the name of BIG BAAVDI. To reach the water level of this tive-storey Baavdi there are large stairs and there are verandahs over them. The top storey, at the back, has light and shade arrangement where one feels strange kind of awe or titillation, The ceilings of the verandahs of the Baavdi are pasted with limestone. There is a rock engraving available here which indicates that this Baavdi was constructed in Vikrami Era 1789 by Kumbhani rulers Deep Singh and Daulat Singh. In the North of Bhandarej there is a pond of Nanagramji on the bank of which there is temple of Braj Gopalji. According to a rock-inscription found here, in Vikrami Era 1891, the temple of Baaj Gopalji was constructed by Rao Ranjit Singh Dhula and this pond was constructed by Man Singh, son of Thakur Anand Singh. In addition the Baavdi of Jhajhirampura and Aalooda situated in district Dausa are also worth-seeing as they remind about their magnificience, ancient architecture and glorious past. THE MOST ANCIENT BAAVDI OF BHINMAAL According to a rock inscription of Vikrami Era 741 (684 AD) found at a place, named Nagar, in Jaipur area, skilled artists of Marwar Bhinmaal have been credited with constructing a Vaapi or Baavdi and those Vaastu experts have been showered praises for their magnificient work. It is mentioned in the rock inscription that, ‘They were serious and learned scholars of Vaastushastra. This seventh century Vaapi or Baavdi situated in the town, called Nagar, is one of the ancient ones. According to Dr. Vasudev Sharan Aggarwal, Water-wheel and Baavdi are two wells of special type that were brought by Shaks to India. Baavdi (known as Baav in Gujrati had ancient name of ‘Shakandhu’ (well of shak’s country) then called Kark, in South-West of Iran. Baan in his ‘Harshcharit’ had also mentioned of water-wheel or 43 persian wheel. In the ancient records of Rajasthan, ‘Arhatt’ is also indicative of this ‘Rahat’ or water-wheel. It is possible that ‘Vaapi’ and ‘Rahat’ were very popular in §Marwar because of having influence of foreigners. Even to this date in Rajasthan, the earthen-vessels-water-wheels or ‘rahats’ are in use. Same is the position of bullock-cart. The construction of “Vaapi’ by the Vaastukars of Bhinnal with such a skill, indicates that Shaks rules this area and the Vaastu knowledge brought by them here was learnt by the local artisans and that they became so skillful that they were called for construction of Vaapis from far and wide. The shaks were originally residents of Sikandria in Central Asia. A Chinese tribe called Yuchi used to live near them, and yet another tribe of Hungnu (Hoon) used to live near the Yuchis. Around Vikrami Era 175, Hungnu (Hoons) attacked the Yuchis who, when driven out of their area, attacked the neighbouring Shaks. The Shaks, after leaving their homeland, marched towards South and were divided into various branches. One branch controlled the valley of Helmond river and named it shakstan or Sistan, Here again they were chased by the Yuchis and they then, attacked Bactria and Parthia and later on after passing through Baluchistan and Bolan Pass they came to the lower areas of Sindh. This island was named as Shak Island. From here they scattered to the various areas of India. Two tribes of Shaks called Khahrat and Chastan are reported to have ruled over the areas of Jallore- Bhinmall. Even today in Bhinmaal there is a Vaapika of Chandinath which is of pre-mediaeval period where two idols of Yaksha are studded. This Vaapika has been renovated several times. In the Chandinath complex, even to this day, relics of broken and some unbroken idols exist. The idols of reclining Vishnu and Shiva-Parvati are prominent among them. All these idols are symbols of glorious past of this place. They 44 were carved in eleventh and twelfth century ago by the skilled artisans, GARHSISAR LAKE OF JAISALMER, A MATCHLESS EXAMPLE OF WATER ARCHITECTURE The sacred and historic lake named Garhsisar in the desert city of Jaisalmer is the major attraction for national and international tourists visiting Jaisalmar now a days. Since this lake was constructed by Maharaval Jaisal, the founder of Jaisalmer fort it was initially known as Jaisalsar. The lake was ready in 1156 A.D. and was later renovated by Maharaval Gharhsi in 1367 A.D. after which Jaisalsar was renamed as Garhsisar. It is said that this brave and popular King, Ghashsi was assassinated in 1361 A.D. The people, in order to pay homage to their beloved ruler, had changed the name of Jaisalsar to Garhsisar. In a rock-inscription in the East of Grahsisar the work of widening this lake was done by Maharval Jait Singh in 1496 A.D. To enter the Garhsisar lake, there are artistic entrances, temples, Dharamsala, umbrellas, gardens, banks and residential construction in the centre of the lake. There are different rumours and stories about them. The entrance of Garhsisar Lake was got built by a prostitute, called Tilan and, therefore, it was known as Prole of Tilan. Maharaval Shalivahan was the ruler of Jaisalmer in 1908 A.D. during the construction of the Prole of Tilan. There are three Shiva temples in the garden of Vriteshwaris as you enter the lake. These were constructed at the inspiration of Maharani Roop Kanwar, wife of Maharaval Gaj Singh. The Maharani was devotee of Lord Shiva. At her inspiration, ten small temples were constructed at the banks of the Lake. At present there isa temple of Hinglaaj Devi in the shape of a fort in the garden of Bisso at the Lake. This temple and garden were renovated in 1938 A.D. Towards the South of Garhsisar there is atemple of Ajiteshwar Mahadev. Its construction was got done by Mehta Ajit Singh in 1872 A.D. 45 There is a beautiful temple named ‘Amareshwar Mahadev’ opposite the Gaj temple which was constructed by Girdhari Lal Amarchandani. The temple of Neelkanth Mahadev was got constructed by the wife of Maharaval Bhim Singh in Vikrami Era 1673. In addition, there is an abode of Bhabhuteshwar site and pavillions of Naths. When Garhsisar is full of water, it takes the shape of a beautiful lake, The buildings constructed in it appear as if they are floating in water. The site of the anglews, Modo Bangalow, Bichlow bangalow and Jaali Bangla in the middle of the lake which look like Jal Mahals (Palaces in water) is very attractive and pleasing, Many Dharamsalas (Taverns) have been constructed on the bank of Garhsisar Lake. These Dharamsalas were made use of by the passing caravans of camels and other visitors from outside in the olden days. The people of the Society constructed temples of gods and goddesses according to their faith and reverence. The residents of Jaisalmer had an everlasting and unbreakable relationship with Garhsisar Lake. The Lake has deeper connections with all festivals, like Gangaur, Teej, Jaisalmer Foundation Day, Desert Festival etc. Till 1965 A.D., Garhsisar Lake has been the sole source of drinking water for Jaisalmer. The residents of Jaisalmer fulfil many of their customs, social and traditional obligations, through this sacred lake. It does not dry up completely even in summer season that is why the Rajasthan Tourist Development Authority has provided boating facility in this lake. AMAR SAGAR Five kilometers from Jaisalmer, on Lotrava Road, Amar Sagar is famous for its magnificence. constructed by maharaval Amar Singh in Vikrami Era 1748 with yellow stones, Amar Sagar, Amreshwar temple, Amar Bagh and Anup Baava are excellent examples of his love for art, The beautiful umbrellas and palace are excellent specimens of work of art. This traditional water source of 46 \muar Sagar is not only a unique work of water architecture, but is also a symbol of ancient tradition and cultural heritage uf its past. According to one estimate, there are nearly 125 ponds, tanks, wells, lakes baavdis and flounces. At the time of colonising Jodhpur the ruler, Rao Jodha had made systematic and planned arrangements for lakes, pools and ponds, Maintained with ceaseless efforts, these water resources have not only remained the main sources of ctinking water but were also a great source of strength to combat the uncertainties of famine and lack of rains. BALSAMAND Nearly five kilometers from Jodhpur city, the Parihar King, Balak Rao, got the Balsamand built in 1159 A.D. As a natural lake, this water source is 14 kilometer long, 150 feet wide and 40 feet deep. The then Maharaja, Shur Singh, extended the area of this lake and built a beautiful palace Thereafter, during the period of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II’s tule the area of this palace and lake were and a new garden was constructed with attractive water falls. This lake constructed with jodhpuri stones has been the main source of drinking water for the Jodhpur city. It has a capacity of 16 lac cubic meter. Its water is taken to Gulab Sagar through open canals. GULAB SAGAR Among the historic water sources, Gulab Sagar has its special place. Situated near Sardar Market, the construction of Gulab Sagar in an area of 150 x 90 meter was done by the then Maharaja Vijay Singh in the memory of his consort. Near this there is a small pond called “Son of Gulab Sagar” which was constructed in 1835 A.D. in the memory of Sheru Singh, \on of Gulab Rai. Constructed with Jodhpuri stones, there ute 72 water taps in both these ponds. There are canals to collect the rain water. In this 30 feet deep pond, water flows. in from Balsamand water-field. Gulab Sagar has been a very important source of drinking water for the city. 47 Chapter 3 Evergreen Spots of Water Collection — Large Ponds/Water Sheds In the Shekhavati manifest areas of Rajasthan, rich and affluent people have rendered unparalleled service to the development work for the public. No doubt those people have earned lot of wealth by doing their business far and wide, but ‘SETHANI JOHADA Fig. 9 they have never lagged behind in the ancient traditions of public service and development. In the Shekhavati region, 48 which has limited water resources, the Maharajas and rulers und, later on, the rich and affluent people constructed and maintained the ponds and watersheds. In many villages, such evergreen ponds and watersheds are mute witnesses to the ulorious past. Their pattern of construction is almost the same. In the villages there are small kachha (temporary) watersheds but, in the towns, there are pucca (constructed) ponds and watersheds. There is a place for cows and other animals to «rink water to quench their thirst. The pucca watersheds have four-sided walls and there are artistic umbrellas on all the four sides. There is a pucca pathway above the walls, with the help of which one can go round the watershed. There are pucca zig-zag stairs. The deepest spot is called ‘Chobhi’ which is 20-30 feet deep from the top water level. Around this ‘Chobhi’ there are zigzag stairs which are called ‘Chopra.’ In olden times the estimate of water collection could be made on the basis of number of stairs or ‘Chopras’ submerged in water. There are a minimum of two and a maximum of eight zig-zag stairs. The more the stairs, the deeper the watershed. The stairs are like slabs of the watershed, In the event of maximum rainfall, the watershed gets filled to its full capacity when all the stairs are submerged in water. - The water of these watersheds is used by the farmers and travellers enroute. The animals, grazing in the fields, drink water from ‘Cow-Ghat’ while the people, coming for picnic and enjoyment bathe in the watersheds and take their food and eatables sitting under the umbrellas. Every year people of Brahmin community bathe in the watershed and change their sacred thread, Similarly during the month of Bhadon (rainy season), on the 12th day of Krishna Paksha (black half of moen) married ladies worship these watersheds. Traditional fairs are held at many of the watersheds every year. For the Cattle Fairs, the place around the watersheds is unique and most suitable. 49 ‘GAU GHAT OF JOHADA Fig. 10 THE WATERSHEDS OF CHURU ‘The narration of watersheds of one place will give a clear picture of all the watersheds (ponds) of Shekhavati. In this sequence, the details of watersheds of Churu are presented here. THE WATERSHEDS OF SETHANI Situated in the East of Churu city, the watershed of Sethani is a historic and worth seeing place. Shrimati Brij Kunwari, wife of Raj Bahadur Seth Bhagwan Dass Bagla got this watershed constructed in the memory of her husband. Its real name is Bhagwan Sagar but people continue to call it as “Sethani Ka Johara.’ The title deed of this watershed’s land is available in the peoples Cultural Research Institution: in Churuaccording to which the cost of the title deed was deposited in the Government treasury on April 24, 1907. The total land under this watershed was 170 Bhigas and 19 Biswas. This watershed is, therefore over 85 year old. There is a pond called ‘Johri Sagar’ in the Western side 50 of Churu which is now ina miserable condition, since the dirty water from the-city as also rainwater flow in this pond. It was constructed done 200 years ago in the name of Johri Mal Poddar. The 78-year old Subodh Aggarwal, the President of Peoples Cultural Research Institution, says that there was a time when the greenery of month of savan the fairs of Bhadon Kajri Teej used to be held at Johri Sagar. There were races of horses and camels, people used to throw coconut balls and then aim to shoot them with their rifles. Today all these events have disappeared. PATHRILA WATERSHED This watershed is situated in the South-East of Churu nearly eight kilometers from the village of Ramsara and Unthwalia. Earlier there was a kacha (temporary) watershed. In Vikrami Era 1997, seth Udai Ram Lakshmi Narain Chandgotia of Ratan Nagar got it reconstructed as pucca | (permanent) pond named ‘Prem Sarover’. The speciality of this watershed is that it never remains Wihout water. It is said that it covers an area of nearly 100 bighas and there are stones at the base of this watershed due to which it is called ‘Pathreela Johara.’ The borders of Churu, Sikar and Jhunhunu are only five kilometers from this pond. It is said that in old days goods used to be brought from Bikaner on camels through this route and the traders used to rest at this watershed. The Banjaras (Nomads) of Bikaner are familiar with the name of this watershed till to day. In the land of this watershed there is a memorial of Goga Pir, A Shivalaya, a garden, a temple of Mother karna and varandahs which tell the story of its ancient habitat. Till four-five years back there used to be annual fair of Goga-pir. The construction of this watershed is a little different from others. There are no umbrellas but it has a four- sided pucca wall and Gow Ghats (Place for Cows). There is a varandah in its front portion. In olden days there used to be a school here. 51 PEETHANA JOHARA In the North of Churu city, there is a 110-year old peethana watershed. Earlier it used to be a temporary one but Shiv Baksh Rai got it renovated into a permanent one. Its ancient name is Bijana Tohara. Every year, on Gopshtami day a fair is held here. In the North, there is a hundred-year old permanent pond which is called ‘Kalra Johara.’ In the North of Churu, there is a cremation ground near Sawai Sagar where people used to take bath after cremating a dead body. The tradition of construction of ponds or joharas in Shekhavati has completely vanished but whatever ponds and joharas are still one of the existent can be gainfully developed as one of the most precious treasures for the purpose of tourism. THE JAISAMAND LAKE OR DHEBAR Thirty two miles South-East of Udaipur lies Jaisamand which is also called ‘Dhebar’Maharana Jai Singh got this lake constructed between the period 1687 A.D. and 1691 A.D. when it is full of water, the length of the lake is 9 mite. long and six miles wide. The dam of this lake lies between the two mountains and is made of marble. The dam is nearly a thousand feet long and ninetyfive feet high. Its width at the bottom is 50 feet and 15 feet at the top after stairs. Behind this lake there is another dam which is 1300 feet long. According to Dr. G.H. Ojha, the portion between these two dams remained without water for 184 years. However, the dam which was to store and control water was so firm and strong that it never caved in or suffered any breach. Maharana Sajjan Singh got the two-third portion of the crater or the deep gorge filled up. The remaining work was completed after some time. Now there is a flat land between the two which is full of trees. This lake is famous in the world amongst the man-made artificial lakes. 52 FATEHSAGAR LAKE OF UDAIPUR In the beginning this lake was constructed with-Thoor Lake in 1687 A.D. by Maharaja Jai Singh, but because of excessive rains during the period of Maharana Bhim Singh, this lake got breached, resulting in extensive damage to the “Sahelion ki Baari.’ Because of the existence of Dewali village to the East of the dam on this lake, it was also being known as “‘Dewali Lake’. In 1888 A.D. Maharana Fateh Singh, after spending Rs. 6, 14, 189, got it widened, raised its height and made it more lasting. It is 1.50 mile long, one mile wide and 35 feet deep. Its dam has a length of 2800 feet and its capacity is 558 million cubic feet of water. Because its foundation stone was laid by the Duke of connaught, it is known as connaught Dam and the lake is known as Fatehsagar. Since inflow of water in this lake was not adequate, a dam was constructed at Chikalvas on Ahar river and a canal was diverted into the lake. Swaroop Sagar and Fateh-Sagar were merged through a big canal. The depth at the site of the dam is over 50 feet. ARCH-SHAPED RAJSAMAND LAKE AND ROCK INSCRIPTIONS. Maharana Raj Singh got two lakes constructed —one at Raj Nagar known as Rajsamand and the other near a village called Baari, Rajsamand is nearly 40 miles North of Udaipur. This dam conctructed on river Gomati, is four miles long and 13 miles wide, To commence the construction of Rajsamand, an ustrologically auspicious time was got determined as Wednesday the 7th of Magh (Badi) 1718 Vikrami Era, and Raj Singh performed the foundation (ceremony) ‘Muhurat’ laying on Monday the: 13th of Vaisakh (Sudi) 1721 Vikrami Era. First of all, Ranchhor Rai, elder son of Purohit Gharib Dass placed a rock studded with five gems (ruby). On Magh (sudi) Purnima 1732 Vikrami Era, the final oblation was performed. But the work of construction was carried on till the month of Asad 1755 Vikrami Era. The dam is arch-shaped 53 and the corner of the lake leading towards Raj Nagar, which is situated between two hillocks, is over 200 yards long and 70 yards wide. It has very beautiful stairs consturcted from Raj Nagar marble. At the base of Nauchowki, the Maharana, with the help of Tailang Bahtt, Madhu Sudan’s son Ranchhor, got an epic ‘Raj Prashasti’ composed and inscribed on the walls of 25 large doors. This epic praises the Maharans of Mewar and specially Jai Singh to this day. In fact this rock inscription is so large that an epic comparable to it is not available in the whole world, 54 Chapter 4 Major Source of Water Conservation — Water Tanks Historians maintain that Rajasthan was not a desert in carlier times. At one time there was a vast ocean with its waves «uavering all over. But the vagaries of time dried up those waves gradually. What was left was an ocean of sand. One Fig. 11 =WATER STORAGE TANK giant of the nature swallowed the other. The waves still rise and quaver but now the particles of sand from the vast ocean of sand dance in them. The destiny of this green land has now changed. The ocean of sand has taken the place of the vast ocean of water. Now there is no rain-water but only sun. Less water and more heat, Their combination makes the life still more difficult. Habitat and living become sparse. other deserts of the world are also similarly placed but the 55 brave and courageous people of Rajasthan have or reversed this equations of nature. The result is that there is no emptiness but greenery and attraction, grater habitat and bloom of life in it, no dryness or sadism but full blowing life of an energetic and colourful people. In the nature’s such rough, adverse and unintelligible environment, the secret of Rajasthan being so lively, vibrant and colourful lies inherent in the courage and bravery of its people. The energetic people of Rajasthan have never lamented the partiality of nature nor cursed their own fate but have turned this curse into a boon. Like a brave warrior, they faced this challenge of nature and with their unity have collected the drops of nectar ie. rainwater from every village and city, discovered the measures to store it and with their systematic and planned efforts put this water into water-reservoirs. To meet their needs of water the have discovered a beautiful tradition to store the water all the year-round, the bright-line of which adores the pages of history and calls upon the present to awake and rise. According to one tradition, flowing water is considered pure but Rajasthan has reversed this tradition. Here, the rainwater-and every drop of it-is collected in village houses in wells, tanks and Baavris which are constructed with great care. And this is used throughout the year and later, to keep this water fresh in wells and tanks, arrangements are made to provide them air and light. Some of the wells or ‘Kunds’ as one draws water from the wells are so deep that water is drawn from them. Insuch conditions, there are stairs in them, a cover at the top and a rotary for drawing water. Similarly there are variations in the construction of wells, depending upon the place. But a raised platfrom is a must everywhere. In some parts of Rajasthan, pillars and capolas are constructed on the wells to give them an attractive shape and the wells to give them an attractive shape and the well is automatically visible. Not only this, the apparatus tied to the thick rope for drawing water makes such enchanting sound as the water drawn from 56 he well falls into the small storage on the surface that everyone feels happy. The sight of quay at the well is worth seeing, Be the houses small or big, kuchha or pucca, the place of well or tank is always defined. Every house has its own well or kundi.’ In the Western side of the state where the rain fall is scanty, there is a big platform in front of every house. on its walls there are coloured handmade pictures or writing with chalk. These are not platforms but wells which meet the demands of water for that house. They are like tanks or kunds,’ These tanks are visiable in public places, palaces, forts ete, wherein the rain-water is also collected. me er Mes Fig. 12-UNIQUE WELL OF SHEKHAWATI The tank pond of Jaigarh in the pink city Jaipur is so wide and large that it can contain seven lakh gallons of water. This tank is nearly 150 hands (arm-measure) long-wide and 40 57 hands deep. Its large ceiling has been placed on 81 pillars submerge in water. To provide fresh air and light, there are windows/ ventilators on all its four sides. There are two doors on both sides of the tank for going down. A long corridor connects the two doors and there are stairs on both sides to go down upto the water level. In this manner the cleansing of the tank is undertaken and also water resources are checked before the rains. In this series, the Saathi Well of Seth Sangi Dass in the steel town of Jodhpur district, isa matchless (unique) example of establishment of wells and also of Vaastu Kala. This eight-cornered well is made of stone and four out of its eight arms stretch out on four sides to from large platforms. Every platform has four, eight-cornered, chambers, and connected to themare four deep chambers. Outside every chamber there is provision for drinking water for animals of every height. There are four streams coming out of the four platforms which have provision for drawing water through four pairs of bullocks, on all the sides, at the same time. The Chotine well of Bikaner is also of this tradition. Such wells having a flight of stairs, with the help of which it is easy to reach upto water level, are called ‘Kund.’ ‘Pagbav’ ‘Jhalra’ and ‘Baavdi’. There is a well by the side of Baavdi. The establishment or architecture of Baavdi is an age-old tradition in Rajasthan. That is the reason that in every part of Rajasthan, big or small Baavdi is visible which is a living bond example of water conservation of ancient times. 58 Chapter 5 Auspicious Moment For Digging a Tubewell Fig. 13 For constructing a new building, factory, enterprise or a commercial complex, the first pre-requisite is the arrangement for adequated water. For this purpose, adequate planning is undertaken to dig a well, tubewell, borewell or a handpump. Whether the well would yeild water and ifso after how many feet of digging whether the water would be sweet or sour? Such questions cause worry to the owner. Varahmihir in the ‘Brihatsamhite’ has devoted a full chapter on the search for water. We are not giving here the full details because of vastness of the subject. Our sole aim, relating to Vaastu Shastra is that, if the work is started on an auspicious moment, it can lead to success. Acting according to natural rules, the 59 heavenly powers shower their pleasure and help us in our enterprise. THE MONTH FOR STARTING A WELL The Indian sages have conducted research on this subject and have ordained that the months of Phalgun, Magh, Agahan, Jyesth, Kartik and Vaisakh are excellent for starting the digging of a well and will prove fruitful. TO SEARCH FOR MOON'S PLACE The ancient sages and hermits would determine the 60 place of moon from the following precept (formula) for digging and construction of a well, and then/decide whether or not it was auspicious to start and construct a house or a water storage area (well). fefrase- deni. fayafrerm wer weafeeat fe wraTer aa I aida oat Prreary a wet yet daar On Second, Eighth, Fifth, Eleventh and Fourteenth dates, the Moon stays in the lower regions ("ate?) CONCEPT ABOUT WATER Likewise by adding up the desired star sign, the date and the day and by dividing it by four, if the remainder is one, then water is in deep lower regions (Tae) if the remainder is two then water is in upper regions and, if the remainder is 3 or zero, then water is available in the top of land. If the water is in deep lower regions (ate) it will be difficult to locate it, if it is in the upper regions then the results are medium and if it is in the top layers of then it will be found quickly. That is what the anceint masters thought and believed. AN IDEAL WELL OR BER! According to Devi Purana, an ideal well is of depth between 40 and 400 feet. A small well which is also known as ‘Koopica’ (fran) is of depth between 6 and 60 feet. In Rajasthan it is called ‘Beri’ (8) in local language. A well, which is deep upto only 4 hand measures is called ‘Shreemukh’ and that of 13 hand measures is called *Shankarmukh welt’ DIRECTION FOR DIGGING A WELL It is better to start digging a well from North side. Water will appear soon if digging is done from East side. But if it is dug from West or North-West corner, the water which 61 appears after digging well soon disappear. IDEAL SITE FOR A WELL IN THE HOUSE Where should the handpump in the house be? a swimming pool in the hotel, a well or tubewell in the field or a water-storage place in a commercial complex? In this connection, the following Sanskrit couplet is worth mentioning : aeiderisdedmandt ufstet gig, inte: et fers after wang wat eer shen PLACE FOR BUILDING A WELL OR A WATER TANK IN THE. A well, a handpump, a water tank or a water conservation apparatus can be in the Western area of the building where it is auspicious. This leads to peace and prosperity in the house. 3. Avwell, handpump, water tank or small tank in South- West corner lead to death of the house owner and his family members. 6. Place of water storage, a well, handpump or a water tank or a smal tank in South side leads to death of house owner’s wife. It it is in the center, this leads to considerable losses. 7. If a well, handpump, water tank or a small tank is in the North-West direction, the house-owner has the fear of enemies and trouble from them, but if it is right in the North-West angle, it leads to death of the house- owner’s wife and there are always clashes in the family. THE REMEDY TO PURIFY THE WELL WATER Several times, it happens that, after a lot of labour and expenditure, a tubewell is dug but it produces water which is dirty, sour, distasteful and foul-smelling. There is a simple solution for this problem given in the ancient literature. On this, Varahmihir, the patriarch of water technology\science and pioneer of astrology has directed that— Anjan (5), Motha (a) Kas (@8), Rajkoshtak (uisparerer) Anwala(#¥aen) Katak Ka Fal (a 31) should be made into powder from ground should be in equal measures and dropped in the well. The existing astringent and dirty water, because of effect of these medicines will turn into clear, sweet, fragrant one and full of many quantities. (Brihatsamhita, Chap. 54 Shaloka 121-12{p-74). 63 WEST WHAT TO DO WHEN THE WELL WATER DRIES UP? It happens many a time that the well water dries up even after repeated digging. The water appears, but soon disappears. There is a handwritten ancient manuscript containing a magic remedy, as lender: On the day of Pushya or Aadri star sign, take seven white pebbles. After consecrating them with the Mantras of god of water (Varuna), drop them in the well. Before that, take a piece of wood from Bara or Bates, make a sharp nail out of it, consecrate it with fragrance, flowers, dhoop and deep and drop it in the centre of the well. Most likely, the water will appear again. HOW TO INSTALL A TUBE-WELL IN A FACTORY NORTH Ars. However, if the tubewell tilts towards the East, it would be still better. Tubewell for industrial plot, commercial complex or a multi-storey building should always be installed in the North-East and it should always be borne in mind carefully that the Southern and Western walls of a factory in the South-West zone should be comparatively thicker and stronger than the other walls. This will ensure inflow or 64 ome Fig.7 sources of production in an industry, factory or a commercial complex. A WELL OR TUBE-WELL IN A COMMERCIAL COMPLEX OR FACTORY It should always be borne in mind very carefully that while constructing any enterprise, factory or industrial plot, that its main entrance gate should be in the North-East, North or East. If that is not possible, care should be taken to see that the main gate is not in the South-West or South-East, 65 VAAYAVAYA Fig. 18 otherwise the factory would face constant threats of thefts. “It should also be borne in mind that in the South-West or South-East there should be no tube-well, fit box, safety tank, water storage etc. otherwise the entire effort will go waste. If there is a well in the South-East, and if its water is used for drinking, there will be constant trouble between and master and the labourers. ARRANGEMENT FOR A WASH BASIN IN A HOTEL OR FACTORY. Ina factory, house hotel or a shop the wash basin should always he in East or North or North East. (See figure on next page) 67 Chapter 6 Feng Shui—A Factual Assessment ‘The Chinese civilization has an ancient and long cultural history. Thousands of years ago they had discovered how to treat and cure various ailments with the help of forest herbs and vegetation. They discovered how to eliminate pain with the help of acupuncture and acupressure and also how to utilize the magnetic power, hidden in the Earth, for the good of mankind. The Chinese people discovered 1600 years ago these natural powers based on scientific facts and substances. They believe that this power is both positive and negative. They call the positive power (pesttive subterranean force) as Yang Power and the Negative power (negative underground force) as YIN. They discover and locate this underground force with the help of a Magnetic Compass which they call LUOPAN. Just as there is magnetic power hidden in the Earth, so also there are magnetic waves in the human body. According to Chinese belief, this power is called ‘Qi’ which in the human body is both Negative and Positive. Its equilibrium keeps human body healthy. Just as the human ‘Qi’ power gives a human boday strength, correct wisdom, energetic and beautiful body and vigour, so also the Earth’s ‘Qi’ power gives human beings scientific and super-natural power and helps in their progress. Feng-Shui is a beautiful art of discovering this secret ‘Qi’ power, whether it is in a room, in the entire building, in a hotel complex or in a plot of land. 68 Chinese belief is that our immediate surroundings affect our health, thinking and mental balance. For example, if a man is living in a narrow area, uneven habitat etc., his mental makeup would also abe narrow, slipshod and incoherent. The colour of the building, its light and air arrangements and internal decoration also affect the mental waves of the person living therein. If a room is painted with sharp and fast colours, the individual sitting therein feels heat and restlessness. when the colour of the room is soothing and favourable to the eyes, the individual will feel solace and calm. Therefore, the interior construction and decoration of a building influences to which an individual in an unusual and strange manner, a considerable thought has been devoted in Feng-Shui. A skilled and able Vaastu Architect should study very minutely the interior construction and decoration of a building, because this will, at the very first sight, bring out the builders character, mental thoughts, imaginations and intentions. Therefore, a clever Vaastu consultant should carefully take into account the shape of the plot of land; and alongwith the technique of building construction pay serious attention to the interior decoration, furniture, photographs curtains and decoration material so that alongwith the Earth’s hidden force, i.e. ‘Qi’, the internal construction waves are harmonious with each other. This harmony ina residential house, an apartment, a shop, office, hotel, garden, industry or a commercial complex alongwith Earth’s subterranean force and interior constructional ‘Qi’ power, promotes equanimity, maintains balance and increases the longevity of the structure. Feng-Shui is also known as ‘Geomancy’ in the Chinese language. With the help of Feng-Shui we can balance the YIN and the YANG; and obtain powerful cosmic breath and magnetic power. Many cities in China were constructed on the base of Feng-Shui which, later on, became the capital cities. because of their progress and prosperity. Near and Kyoto are famous among them. 69 In China, water is considered a symbol of wealth. That is why artificial waterfalls are constructed at the main entrances of many buildings to attract wealth constantly. In China, Southern portion of the house is decorated and more windows are constructed towards Southern side while the Northern side, is mostly kept closed. It is done so that the winds blowing from ‘Monogolia’, enter the houses. The tops of the houses, walls, flower gardens are decorated for news of good luck. Outside the entrances of the houses, on the Southern side it is considered auspicious to have water and on the backside (Northern side) of these houses, it is considered auspicious if there are high mountains or plateau. According to one belief, ‘King Shui’ was discovered in China, 3000 years ago. This knowledge came into vogue in Japan first and then spread through South East-Asia. The Chinese Vaastu experts believe that the natural looking shape of a particular animal denotes the same kind of result. For instance if a mountain looks like a tortoise then it is auspicious because the people living in the dwellings in its hermitage will attain long life. In China, giant-sized dragons are considered auspicious. If a mountain appears like a giant-sized dragon, it is indicative of power and favourable environment. Never hang in the bedroom, the photo of fighting animals or pictures of fire, bat, vampire, snake, cock, owl, cat, tiger or nude human paintings. In the name of so-called modern art, never hang in the bedroom any absurd pictures/paintings or those which are gaudy, showy or ostentatious, since they disturb the mental peace. Nearly 1200 years before Christ, the Chinese believed that the world consisted of five elements. which are: Gold, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. Thereafter, they discovered stars and planets that revolved round the sun. A person who knows Astrology and Vaastu science in China is known as Di-Li Jiage (Geographer). These people determine, with the help of compass the pleasures and happiness of Heaven and Earth, It is said that the Magnetic Compass, was first discovered by the Chinese in the eighth century. In China, a sick person is given medicines based on Yin and Yang. Some house-owners think that they are unable to change the door or other areas of the house on the advice of a Vaastu expert because of economic reasons/troubles. In such circumstances, Feng-Shui is the remedy. But this is not a reality. According to ‘Feng-Shui, one can alter the internal decoration of the house i.e. placement and design of furniture, aquarium, colour photos and various decoration pieces in order to obtain favourable rays of light from Earth’s subterranean force ‘Qi’ For example, an industrialist of Jaipur constructed a beautiful mansion/ Bungalow. But when he started living in it, there were ragular quarrels between husband-wife and children among themselves. Even a small talk would lead to firece quarrel due to which the peace of home was virtually n lost. He wrote me a letter giving all the details, sent me some honorarium and requested me to come to Jaipur. After fixing the appointment, I reached his house in Jaipur. The staircase of the house, doors, windows and bore-well were all at their proper places according to Vaastu. Evidently the house- owner was aware of Vaastu requirements . Even the kitchen was also at its proper place in South-East angle. But there was one unnatural adjustment or an inconsistency which startled me. It was the place where the cooking gas burner was placed, Over it, on a shelf, water pitchers were placed in open windows. Water and Fire have ever been each other’s enemies. Fig. 24 In front of the main door of the house there should be no other picture except that of God or the diety one worships. Any absurd or irrelevant photographs will create a wrong impression on the mind of a guest or a visitor. Ina house where fire apparatus and water containers are in parallel position or they are one above/below the other, a person drinking water from that container or pitcher will become hot tempered, resulting in quarrels between husband-wife, father-son, mother-daughter, which will vitiate 72 We ane & Pa Tare aes Ue oT aT Most Beautiful Example of Water Storage wet Bal-Samand Tea ANTE Gulab Sagar Jai Samand cae ceo we ware Ff afgita-arartt at aig arearst Unique example of Silpa-Vaastu Water Storage Tank of Abaner Fateh Sagar ae waktat (ect) wT Us faeTA Gea A Birdview of Water Palace Magnificient Water Storage Tank of Bhandarej Serene ar Age AAT — A AT ST TIT SATE fee AMT, BERT Gadsisar Pond of Jaisalmer-Marvellous Example of Vaastu Women Garden, Jhalra TH Raj Samand siterron at araet A Water Storage Tank of Neem Rana ame at areas Water Tank of Amer with steps all-round A Well of Rajasthan example of Water Storage and Silpa caiar Saad 1939 FW ATATAT AT cosniononsnone Mast, Vijay Raj Rajeshwar Shiv Temple & ta arr we War wer @ fafa fase ata foranfiat + at The temple constructed on Gaib aftg, wererae Ud frreraer ar situs asitg Sagar of Dungarpur is a mate! avlent ait anrtt ait Gitaat ti atte Baht @ gaa duster Fa ver Hfet ar Frater wereTaet arr Su the atmosphere. After I got those pitchers removed there were no further quarrels and peace was restored. Simply because of a small change, the whole atmosphere of the house could change so pervasively. It was hard to imagine, as per the opinion of a Vaastu expert that even such a minor adjustment could result in peace and prosperity. CIV @ Fig. 22 Jabalpur is a major city in Madhya Pradesh. A gentleman called me and stated that his house was built according to Vaastu standards and a Vaastu expert all along supervised the construction. But is not possible to sleep in the house after the ‘Grah Pravesh’ (House Entering ceremony), although the house’s returning room is bound by North-South directions. He sent me the map of the house but to no avail. I suggested him to send me the visiting fee and arrange for my train reservation, in order to see for myself the interior decortion ete. of the house, To which gentleman agreed. I reached Jabalpur on the appointed day; inspected whole of the house but when I reached the bedroom, I was wonder-struck. A dangerous tiger-skin was dangling on the wall and a stuffed hippopotamus was also there. 73 In front of the sleeping room, there was a photo-painting of modern art which was gaudy, showy and ostentatious. All the causatives of sleeplessness were present there. How could one sleep there? I got these removed and made some beautiful and pleasant changes. Thereafter, the owner of the house could sleep peacefully. It should be borne in mind that there should be no statue, painting or photo of any wild animal. Pictures of war, killings, absurd pictures bringing fear in mind and haphazardly coloured pictures disturb the sleep of the house owner. It is, therefore imperative for a Vaastu expert to carefully examine the interior decoration of a house. No hotel, commercial complex or a multi-storey building in Bangkok, Hong-Kong, Taiwan and Singapore is constructed without obtaining the opinion of a Vaastu Expert. There is a charge of five percent of the cost of the structure payable to the Vaastu Expert. The Vaastu Experts are paid upto five hundred dollars for one visit and in some cases such experts hired on monthly basis are paid fifty thousand dollars a month. A five-star hotel in Singapore made changes in the entrance door, counter, fountains and reception area at the suggestion of a Vaastu Expert and thus improved his business earning by millions of dollars. It should always be borne in mind that the prosperity of a house business owner depends on the main magnetic power which enters through its main entrance gate. Therefore, all through there should be no hindrance of any kind in the main entrance gate. The ill-effects of external atmosphere can be very dangerous to the house owners. There is a true but startling episode which I would like to tell my readers. A prosperous businessman of Hong-Kong constructed a beautiful cottage for his family at the sea coast which was sea-facing. It was comfortable in all respects with all the amenities provided. After the entrance ceremony, bad luck befell upon the master of the house. His handsome child died of some disease. His wife fell seriously ill and he himself suffered huge losses in his 74 Fig. 23 business. The house-owner showed his cottage to a Vaastu Expert who could not find any fault with it. After some months, his wife died after long treatment. Then again he called another Vaastu Expert but he too could not be of much help. Thereafter, he hired a Vaastu Expert on monthly salary basis and asked him to examine the cottage regularly becuase the house-owner came to believe firmly that there was something wrong about the “Feng Shui” of the cottage. The Vaastu Expert remained in that cottage for one month, On the last day of the month he got up early and saw that in front of the cottage there was a rock stone of the shape of a large frog with its mouth wide open. He brought this to the notice of the house-owner. This rock was visible only when there was less water. around. The house-owner asked his servants to break that rock but he ‘fell ill in the meantime. After that he changed that cottage. His health started improving but he never again thought of going back to the old cottage. Since then that cottage is empty and is in state of ruins. 75 wind blows from Southern side which provides fresh air and fills the house with cosmic rays. 3. As against this, a house facing North-East is not considered auspicious in China, because the Northern wind coming from Mongolia which is full of yellow dust, becomes the cause of ominous Feng Shui. 4. Entrance gate of city or house building or the hind wall should be lower in height. There should be a stream, canal, sea, waterfall, valley or a descending plateau in front of the building. There should be a high mountain, a plateau or a higher wall of another house behind the building. This is the best Feng Shui sight indicative of taking the house-owner to dizzy heights of prosperity. 5. Any plot of land should be clean and evenly levelled. Fig. 24 It should be higher than the field, road or highway in THE GOLDEN RULES OF FENG SHUI front of it so that there is adequate facility for water to The cosmic ray of Feng Shui (‘Qi’) or-the’ Earth’s flow out. magnetic subterranean power is based on some golden rules determined by the wise people. There should be no wild plants, which should be planted in such a manner as to combat the pollution of the main highway. They should not be so thick as to prevent the sunlight from entering the house. Early morning sunrays reaching the inner portions of the house are useful but afternoon sunrays should not penetrate into the inner portions of the house. 7. The environment and atmosphere of the place should be studied. Standing on that place in open air, try to breathe deeply and see how you feel it. One should analyse what kind Fig. 30 of plants are grown on that land? What kind of animals are roaming around that place and their movements? If the atmosphere is congenial and if you feel elated, you may buy that plot otherwise drop the idea. An expert Vaastu Shastra can minutely analyse the pros and cons of that atmosphere, since he has experience in this sphere. Therefore, before buying a commercial plot, do consult an experienced Vaastu expert. ANALYSIS OF OTHER PLOTS An ‘F’ shaped plot is considered neither good nor bad. According to Chinese belief, such a shape denotes degeneration or downfall. If the owner constructs a building on an area which is blackish, he is sure to face his downfall. If a building is constructed on an upside-down inverted 81 shaped plot, identified with black colour, the owner will become immensely rich because in Chinese language the meaning Fy] of this shape is prosperity, progress and promotion, The Chinese scholars A believe that our present life is the result of our pre-determined actions. In this birth we enjoy Fig. 31 either very good or sometimes. very bad time. In our best of time, even the unfavourable Vaastu B can do us no harm but in our bad time even a small degree of adverse Vaastu can make our life Ea from miserable. Chinese philosophers believed ina series of five articles which are very important in person’s life and cannot be separated from his/her :— 1. Luck 2. Opportunity. 3. Vaastu. 4. Ability or Merit. 5. Fig. 32 AG Education. A U-Shaped building, residential or commercial, is not auspicious because the air pressure in the middle portion (marked ‘X’) will be a source of serio. trouble to the building. Evil spirits will affect the owner of the building. A complex having the shape of ‘C’ or a fan is a source of quarrel. It is therefore, not Fig. 33 82 Fig. 34 Fig. 35 auspicious. According to Feng Shui, an ‘O’ shaped round area is a circle, Because it is indicative of water element, such complexes and hotels around sea coast in the cities are quite suitable. There is a hotel in Surat whose top floor revolves. Even the overhead water tanks in the housing colonies are of this shape. The Nehru Planetarium at Worli ae seaface in Mumbai is of this shape. It has more income than other such planetaria, This hexagonal type (six-side plot) is neither auspicious nor inauspicious. But it is not possible to get good sleep in such rooms. The patients in such hospital will recover soon, the children studying in such schools will succeed in their field of education. If it is a commercial building, then all the people, transacting their business there will be rich and prosperous. It is not considered auspicious to have a road int the Western, Northern and Southern side of a plot. But if the land is utilized for commercial work then it would be excellent and profit yielding. If any floor is not in the right proportion then there is fear of thefts and robberies. 143 112 HOW TO MAKE A PLOT PROFITABLE Ifydur plot of land is not rectangular (see South-East ang South-West) please ensure that South-East and South-West angles are at least of 90°. Thereafter make the plot rectangular, leaving the extra land. In this state the plot will become profitable. Fig. 87 114 Practical Case Study CONVERSION OF THATCH-FACED HOUSE TO A CROW-FACED SOUTH EAST ‘AGNEYA, Lossy STAIR CASE BED ROOM NORTH cate Plot No. 25, Sector -B Kamia Nagar, Jodhpur (Rajasthan) An acquaintance of mine purchased a plot of land in Sector-B of Kamla Nagar area, the costliest area in Jodhpur, and an architect almost built a beautiful bungalow according to her own sweet will. As the bungalow got completed, the house-owner started facing some obstacles and he realized that something is going wrong somewhere. The said house having a main gate towards the North, was actually a thatch- faced appearance, and it was a double storeyed duplex 115 house. There were curly stairs at the main gate that led the visitor straightaway to terrace. These stairs were wrongly built, and it was also improper to instal laundry machines in the Eastern side. Kitchen was also wrongly built, parking (place) should have been at the place where lawn was existant. The side, facing the main gate from North to West measured 74 feet whereas the backside measured merely 49 feet which was completely the shape of a thatch-faced house. Such a house deprives the house-owner from wealth which fact even the house-owner conceded and was, thus was ready to dispose of the house even at a throw-away price. Western side of the house was also an extended one. The house was mistakingly taking this extension as an extension on the South-West side (corner) which fired his eagerness to sell the house, for the simple reason that mental tension & domestic quarrels are caused when South-West corner of a house is extended. The aforesaid case was referred to me for my final opinion/decision on 2.10.96. As per plan (map) of the house, itwaé quite evident that only South-West corner was extended but, on visiting the actual sight I found with the help of a compass that it was not the South-West, but only Western angle’s portion was extended. Now at least, one anamoly and misconception got dispelled. I got the stairs removed from the main gato, laundry was shifted to worship room (in the East) kitchen shifted to dinning hall, and dinning hall to the place of kitchen. This way, the kitchen was shifted to its appropriate place, that is in the South-East side, without any wear and tear. J also got seating arrangement changed in the dressing hall also. Now I was left confronted with the problem of thatch-faced look. After necessary calculations I got a 10 feet wide main door built on the South-West side. This way the visitor will face Eastern side on entering the house. After 116 mensuration a 49 square feet area of the plot was carved out thus leaving off 10 feet area vacant which gave a rectangular shape to the plot. Heavy stone, idols were stacked in the South-West. and raised by 10 feet, from 49 feet to 59 feet and the back wall was also raised to 60 feet (Now, after measuring, front-gate wall and the back (rear) was measured 59 & 60 feet respectively). The South West wall was also made bulkier/heavier. These changes converted a thatch-faced house to a crow-faced house. Place for Car-parking was provided on the Western side of North-West direction, ‘Vigharta Ganpati’ idol was affixed towards the main gate. All the said steps dispelled all the obstacle, due to which the house-owner is now extremely happy and satiated. This is how an ominous house was converted into an auspicous house without any wear and tear. IDENTIFICATION OF COLLECTIVE PLOTS OF LAND AND INDUSTRIAL PLOTS 117 (CASE STUDY NO.2— COLLECTIVE PLOT OF LAND Case Study No. 2 . a ‘TO JAIPUR F-- ‘Yo HiGH court fate ‘SOIATI GATE Fig. 90 KESAR BAGH From Kesar Bagh, situated at Mandor Road, Jodhpur, we received the map of site plan. In this plot of land, there were sixteen plots. A contractor came to me enquire about the best plot out of them, based on Vaastu Shastra. He said that he would buy only that particular plot. Many of my friends often face such situations. I shall try to tell my learned readers on the map as to which of these plots would be useful and meaningful in life :— 1. Plots numbering 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 are auspicious. All of them can be used for industrial as also residential purposes; since they are all facing East. 2. Among them plot No.1 is the best because on its East and North side there are wide roads. North-East corner is extended. In the industrial plots, this the best which is really a suitable commercial complex. 3. There are roads on both sides of plot No. 6. But one road is on Southern side and this is South-East cornered plot hence not very auspicious. 4, Thereafter plot No.12 and 13 are auspicious in that order because their North-East corner is extended. 5. There are roads on three sides of plot No. 16. This can also be utilised both for commercial as well as 118 residential purposes. However, the main road being on the West side, this plot would be useful only after. necessary corrections according to Vaastu Shastra. AUSPICIOUS/INAUSPICIOUS ROOFS OF HOUSE/SHOP. Auspicious Fig. 91 In sketch 1 the situation of ‘A’ is auspicious whereas the roof of comples at ‘B’ is slanting considerably on one side. This is not correct. Foo much leaning of a shop or house on one side pushes the Goddess of wealth out. Auspicious Inauspicious Fig. 92 The roof of ‘A’ in-sketch 2 is correct on both side but the construction of ‘B’ in sketch 2 is unsystematic and incoherent. 119 Inauspictous Fig. 93 In sketch 3 ‘B’ it is not advisable to turn any corner of the roof without valid reason. Auspictous Inauspicious Fig. 04 Ina joint shop complex the palisade or top coverage of roof should be complete and not partly covered as per sketch 4B. Auspicious Inauspicious Fig. 95 The tilt/leaning of the roof should be uniform on alll sides as per sketch 5 ‘A’. One sided tilt as per sketch 5 ‘B’ is not proper. Auspicious. Inauspicious Fig. 96 ‘The roofs of big industries/factories, if they are joined and round are auspicious. The largely traingular roofs are not suitable according to Feng Shui. 121 BOUNDARY (FOUR WALLS) AND BUIDLING A boundary provides ample security to large buildings. While it protects the building from outside dust and storm, at the same time it keeps the activities of its residents secret and covered. The boundary provides security to the building from. unwanted elements and stray animals. However, its walls should not be closed altogether. The boundary walls should not be hindrance to the magnetic flow of air (Qi). It is only then that the Vaastu of that building will be in order. Here are examples :— Poprs-mog “wai. Four-sided Fig. 97 In Bejing, the ancient capital of China, these magnetic waves have not been hindered in the Palace. In the middle of the Palace compound, the Assembly House retains its prestige. The boundary of the Palace is strong and high. In China the boundary walls are mostly in vogue. That is why the Great Wall of China is famous as the Seventh Wonder of World. 122 Fig. 98 All the Vaastu experts of the world are of the firm and uniform opinion that it is not good to situnder a beam (girder) because the beam itselfif fitted under a stress and makes those who sit under it badly stress-ridden. Remedy —In several houses in Gujarat and Maharastra the cradle or swing are under the beam. The people there are habituated to sit under it to write or to think. Many people during my Vaastu visits wanted to know the solution to this stress problem. There are only two remedies :— 1. The beam (girder) should be covered at the ceiling so that it becomes invisible. 2. Install on both sides of the beam the statues of Lord Ganpati (Budhiwardhak-who incresaes knowledge) in such a way that the statues become one. This will solve the problem and correct the fault. 123 MODERN RESIDENTIAL BUILDING ACCORDING TO VAAYAVAYA, Entrance | _ kitchen AGNEYA —— Highway east Highway—— Entrance The main gate of this house is in the South-East corner. The individual should mostly sit at a place dotted with black lines. More especially at A-2 the owner will get more energy according to Feng Shui and he will feel himself more at rest. WHERE TO START DIGGING FOR LAYING FOUNDATION As far as possible one should have a Brahmin possessing the knowledge of the Vedas for the Bhoomi Pujan (consecration of Earth). I have found several times that a Brahmin performing this Puja did not know the Vaastu Rules and the direction in which digging should be started. The writers of the ancient Shastras have clearly stated that a person wishing a long life for himself should never dig apit at the head, back or the right side of the “Vaastu Purush’. A pit dug in the left side of the chest of the ‘Vaastu Purush’ is always rewarding. The ‘Vaastu Purush’ keeps moving according to the passage of Sun or a planet from one sign into another. Therefore, for the benefit of seekers of knowledge I am giving the following Sutra : — 1. When Sunis in Leo, Virgo or Libra, the digging should be commenced in the South Western corner. 2. When Sun is in Scorpio, Sagittarius or Capricorn, the digging should be commenced in the North-West corner. 3. When Sun is in Aquarius, Pisces or Aries, the digging should commence in North-East corner. 4. When Sun is in Taurus, Gemini or Cancer, the digging and Vaastu Puja should be done in South-Eastern corner. The Pujan (of Vaastu Purush) performed in this way will be auspicious and good for everybody. But some experts believe that this corner digging is not the final word on the foundation-day. This is just to perform the Puja of ‘Vaastu Purush’. THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE SITUATION OF “VAASTU PURUSH’ According to ancient sage Mehrishi Prashar, by adding 4 to the date (Tithi) and doubling it and by adding the name letters of the house owner and then dividing it by three, the situation of ‘Vaastu Purush’ would be as follows : If the balance is one, he in heaven, if it is 2 then in the under-world (the lower tegions) and if it is zero, then he is this mortal world. In heaven it is beneficial, in underworld it brings regular financial gains and if he is in this world, it leads to death. The experts & knowledgeable persons should bear this in mind and start the construction of the house accordingly. BENEFITS/RESULTS OF INSTALLATION ON EACH OF THE SEVEN DAYS OF THE WEEK The ceremony performed for installation of an idol on Sunday is dignified and bright, on Monday it is auspicious & beneficial, on Tuesday it brings danger from fire on Wednesday it brings wealth, on Thursday it gives strength, on Friday it brings happiness and on Saturday it is inauspicous and brings bad-luck. 1. Anidol touched by a sinful person, defiled by touch of liquor, touched by a wicked Brahmin or a wicked Khastriya should be re-installed. 2. An idol which is broken, burnt, chipped or insulted/defiled should be re-installed. 3. Anidol touched by a thief, a sinful person, a degraded person, a dog or a woman during her mensuration period should be re-installed. If foundation is laid on an auspicous time, house-construction is completed without delay. Hence, first of all we should consider the aspect of ‘Bhoomi Shayan’. CONCEPT ON ‘BHOOMI’- SHAYAN AND VATSA-CHAKRA’ Jf moon falls on V, VL, IX, XI, XIX or XXVI place from Sun planet, it is called Supta (or sleeping), say inactive slumber). Hence, excavation work for construction, in respect of water tank, pond or house is prohibited on such days/ dates. Whether house construction started in good or bad omens can be tested on the basis of a table of Chakra mentioned as detail in "Raj Martand’. Chapter 8 VIEWS ON HOUSE -ENTRY Fig, 104 Entry to a house, shop or factory thought is of after construction work has been complete learned men consider on point of house-entry after defeat of a deserting enemy, on arrival of a new lady, on return from abroad. House entry is divided into three forms viz— Apoorva, Sapoorva and Dwandva ag, ag we a respectively) . When an entry is made into a new house it is called ‘Apoorva’, when an entry is made after return from journey, it is known as “Sapoorva’. Entry into a house, after the same has been renovated is called ‘Dwanwe’. Out of the three types of house entry, ‘Apoorva’ deserves to be especially discussed here. Entry made into a house during January, February, February-March, April-May and May-June is considered to be the best entry; and medium during October-November and November-December. 140 we wep ame Ses wey MEI wagit went 3a dhe aides are —Narad A house should be entered into on X day of dark half of lunar month and during the bright half of lunar month when entry should be made only after appearance of moon. Entry into renovated house be made in the month when Sun moves from North to South (I half of the year). Generally position of debilitated Jupiter and Venus must be thought of in all conditions (of entry) but excepting renovation of a dilapidated house. House-entry is auspicious during the three uttaras, Anuradha, Rohini, Mrigshira, Chitra, Revati, Shatbhisha, Pushya, Ashwini and Hasta asterism (48). If the date and day are favourable (for entry) then house-entry will usher in welfare. But position of planets in the I house (removing flaw, if any) and moon and star’s favourability must also be taken into account. Inan East-facing house, if Sun is posited in anyone house from VIII to XII, then Sun is opposite (Malefic) and in a South-facing house, if Sun is placed in the V house in a house which has Western entrance, and if such as placed in XI house in a house having a Northern entrance, Sun is placed in the V house, itis called ‘vaama Ravi’ which is an imperative position for house entry. In Kumbha-chakra (Aquares circle) five Nakhsatras form Sun’s own Nakhshatra are malefic (harmful), 5 are again harmful, but next six (60 are beneficial. From Sun’s own Nakhshatra, VI to XIII and from XXII to XXVII are benefic and useful Nakashatras. Ina house that is burnt by fire or has been white-washed and decorated with-lime, mud etc, entry should be made in October-November, July-August, November-December, When Swati Pushya, Dhanshta, Shatabhisha Nakhshatras fall. At the time of entry house-owner should decorate his hands, carry with him a water-filled pitcher, flowers, incense, Doorvaadal, Pallav and after reverence to a virgin girl, a 141 scholar, by offering a cow should enter a house. At that time, Brahmins should chant Vedic hymns, sound notes from a Counch-shell, and beautiful ladies should chant pleasing songs. One of the Acharyas holds the view that a Brahman should carry a pitcher and follow the house owner.
