HYPOCRITS

N
u știu alţii cum sunt, dar eu când mă gândesc la gambling-ul românesc
consider că mulţi dintre cei care populează acest domeniu sunt ipo-
criţi. Ca să fie toate lucrurile clare, conform Dicţionarului Explicativ al
Limbii Române “ipocritul“ este definit ca “1. persoană care se arată
altfel de cum este; (om) prefăcut, făţarnic, fals 2. Adj. (Despre mani-
festările oamenilor, fizionomie etc.) Care trădează, arată ipocrizie”.
Acest cuvânt provine de la grecescul hypocrites, care înseamnă actor dramatic.
Grecilor le plăcea teatrul, oratoria, actoria și au definit actorul dramatic ca fiind acel
om care poate juca mai multe roluri, poate avea mai multe feţe pe scenă. Ce-i drept,
în teatru și în actorie când îţi joci rolul, dovada de “hipocrizie” este o calitate, asta
pentru că poţi oferi spectatorilor show-ul dorit.
Însă, în business, și mai ales într-un domeniu ca acesta, te aștepţi ca actorii săi să
fie mai puţin ipocriti și să tindă mai mult către respectul cuvântului dat. Mai mult,
având în vedere atitudinea denigrantă a oamenilor faţă de această industrie, cei ca-
re o reprezintă ar trebui să fie deschiși către promovare, comunicare, pentru că doar
așa ar putea fi atenuat declinul. De la revoluţia industrială și până acum, istoria a
demonstrat care este impactul mesajelor pozitive transmise publicului prin toate
mijloacele de comunicare existente, dar mulţi dintre cei implicaţi în acest domeniu
refuză să se folosească tocmai de acest uriaș instrument de dezvoltare a afacerilor.
Giganţii mondiali din toate industriile își direcţionează bugete imense pentru promo-
vare. În gambling-ul local am putea număra pe degete pe cei care vor să menţină o
legătură constantă cu publicul, singura lor sursă de venituri. Deși se declară promo-
torii entertainment-ului local omit un aspect foarte important al acestei probleme,
acela că numărul clienţilor crește direct proporţional cu cel al mesajelor transmise.
De asemenea, ei nu conștientizează un fenomen, acela că odată făcut un lucru
greșit, va dura și va costa de zece ori mai mult să-l îndrepţi. Sau poate se îmbată cu
apă rece și nu știu că în entertainment imaginea chiar contează. Dar, probabil că
multora le place să joace un rol în care să se bată cu pumnul în piept că ei sunt co-
rectitudinea în persoană, că au standarde înalte și că ei au inventat “apa caldă”. Din
păcate, aceleași personaje girează cu fapta acţiunii, proiecte sau produse de o cali-
tate conceptuală îndoielnică, ce nu aduc decât deservicii industriei.
Și atunci ne întrebăm: Ce anume doresc acești hypocrites? Care este gândirea lor și
de ce ne fac și pe noi părtași la spectacolul lor ieftin? Oare sunt niște creduli, or fi
neprofesioniști sau poate doar niște impostori? Nu am răspuns la aceste întrebări…
deocamdată, dar doresc să trag un semnal de alarmă pentru că oamenii de acest tip
se înmulţesc de la o zi la alta, iar atitudinea lor sfidătoare și mincinoasă începe să se
ridice la grade ridicate de neresponsabilitate, asta ca să nu zic iresponsabilitate faţă
de rolul pe care și l-au asumat în industria noastră.
Pentru noi sunt doar niște personaje de care trebuie să ne ferim și pe care trebuie
să le combatem cu cuvântul drept și cinstit și fapta onestă, trebuie să-i descurajăm
prin atitudinea noastră corectă și prin profesionalismul de netăgăduit. Trebuie să-i
împiedicăm să nu mai joace acest teatru ieftin.
Ca să fie clar: proiectul “Casino Inside”, prezent și viitor, nu este pentru ipocriţi, ci
pentru oameni care au coloană vertebrală și care își respectă cuvântul dat.

don’t know about the others, but when I think about the Romanian
gambling I consider most of those who gather around this segment as
being hypocrite. Let’s make things clear: according to the Romanian
Explanatory Dictionary, ”hypocrite” is defined as 1. “a person who acts
differently from his normal behavior, duplicity, fake, dissimulation”; 2.
Adjective (about human behavior, physiognomy etc.) “that betrays, shows
hypocrisy”
This is a word derived from the Greek word Hypocrites that mean drama
actor.
Greeks used to love theatre, oratory, and acting and defined the actor as
being the human being able to perform many roles, and have different fa-
ces on stage. It is true, when acting on stage, “hypocrisy” is considered a
quality, since you can offer the public the show expected.
In business, and especially when we are dealing with a domain like
gambling, you expect the actors to be fewer hypocrites and to focus on re-
specting the promise. More, regarding the denigrated attitude of people
towards this industry, those representing this segment should be opened
for advertising, communication, since this is the only way we could avoid
the decline.
Starting with the industrial revolution until this moment, history demonstra-
ted the impact of the positive messages to the public through all the exis-
ting communication methods, but most of the people involved refuse to
use this huge instrument for business development. The world giants of all
industries redirect their huge budgets to promotion. In local gambling we
could count on fingers the number of those willing to maintain a constant
connection to the public, their only income source.
Even if they declare to be the promoters of local entertainment, they don’t
seem to notice an important aspect of this issue; the number of the clients
increases proportionally with the number of messages sent to them. They
also omit the fact that if you have done one thing wrong, the costs to fix it
can cost up to ten times… or they can just enjoy playing the role where
they declare to be the correctness itself, with high standards. They don’t
know the simple fact that image really matters. They didn’t invent the hot
water, even if they believe so. Unfortunately, these characters act with acti-
ons, projects or products with a conceiving low quality that only ruin the
image of the industry.
That is why we ask: What these hypocrites wish? What’s their thinking, why
do they take us partners within their cheep performance? They are just gul-
ls, unprofessional or just impostors? We didn’t find the answer… yet, but I
would like to stress out the fact that the number of this kind is increasing
every day, and their defiant and fake attitude turn to irresponsibility… more,
irresponsibility towards the role they have assumed within our industry.
They are just characters we should avoid, we have to reject them with the
right words and the honest deeds, and we must discourage them by having
a correct attitude and undisputable professionalism. We must stop them
playing this cheep role.
So to be clear: “Casino Inside”, present and future, is not for hypocrites, but
for people with dignity and people who respect their promise.

 PokerStars, cel mai mare site de poker din lume, a lansat, începând
cu 24 octombrie, emisiunea Clubul de Poker, difuzată la Prima TV.
Clubul de Poker, reality show centrat pe jocul de poker, adaptat pen-
tru România după un format internaţional, s-a bucurat de un real suc-
ces în Europa, în ţări precum Belgia, Portugalia, Rusia sau Germania.
Formatul emisiunii este implementat de către Simpel Media, o casă
de producţie din Olanda, în colaborare cu profesionişti români şi dă
ocazia unor cunoscute vedete din România să-şi demonstreze price-
perea la poker, ori chiar să deprindă acest joc. Cele opt personalităţi
care au intrat în Clubul de Poker sub atenta supraveghere a lui Andrei
Gheorghe, gazda emisiunii, sunt Bogdan Naumovici, Alin Caraman,
Andra Olaru, Florin Piersic Jr., Claudiu Bleonţ, Gina Pistol, Gabriel Co-
tabiţă şi Ionuţ Iftimoaie. Vedetele au de parcurs probe inedite şi, nu în
ultimul rând, sunt nevoite să se adapteze situaţiei și să-şi demonstreze
abilităţile de jucători de poker.
Cei opt jucători din showbizul local au fost cazaţi la un hotel de lux,
situat în centrul Bucureştiului, și au ajuns să petreacă împreună câte-
va zile. În tot acest timp, ei pot acumula cunoştinţe despre jocul de po-

Starting with October 24, PokerStars, the largest poker site in the
entire world, has launched the TV show Poker Club, broadcasted on
Prima TV. A reality show focused on poker game, adapted from an
international format that has great success in Europe, in countries as
Belgium, Portugal, Russia or Germany.
Simpel Media, television production and Media Company from Hol-
land, implemented the format of the Tv show, collaborating with Ro-
manian professionals, giving to the Romanian VIP’s the possibility to
reveal the poker skills or even to learn the rules of the game. The ei-
ght personalities who entered the Poker Club under the strict surve-
illance of Andrei Gheorghe, the host of the show, are Bogdan Nau-
movici, Alin Caraman, Andra Olaru, Florin Piersic Jr., Claudiu Bleonţ,
Gina Pistol, Gabriel Cotabiţă and Ionuţ Iftimoaie. The stars have to
get over harsh testing and they also have to adapt to the situation
and to prove their poker players abilities.
The eight players representing the local showbiz will be accommo-
dated to a luxurious hotel in Bucharest, where they must spend few
days together. During this period, they will accumulate information on
how to play poker, but also certain things about themselves, since

Programul și regulile
jocului
Reality showul Clubul de
Poker este difuzat în fiecare
duminică la Prima TV, iar pe
parcursul celor opt episoa-
de, care durează 45 de mi-
nute, vedetele trebuie să
acumuleze cât mai multe
cunoştinţe despre sportul
minţii, intrând astfel în în-
fruntări directe unele cu al-
tele. Cu această ocazie vor
descoperi anumite aspecte
inedite ale personalităţilor
lor, întrucât vor fi supuşi
unor probe nonconformiste,
care le vor testa rezistenţa
fizică, dar mai ales pe cea
psihică. După fiecare probă,
concurenţii sunt evaluaţi și
în funcţie de rezultate doar
unul dintre ei poate câştiga
punctele puse în joc pentru
încercarea respectivă.
Punctele obţinute se trans-
formă în jetoane pentru jo-
cul de poker. Un medic, un
psiholog, un detectiv şi ju-
cătorul PokerStars Team
Pro, Toni Judeţ, vor aprecia
prestaţia concurenţilor şi
vor decide câştigătorul.
La finalul fiecărui episod,
vedetele se întâlnesc la ma-
sa de poker, concurând
unul împotriva celuilat până
când se va decide învingă-
torul. Fiecare vedetă va pri-
mi în momentul intrării la
masă acelaşi număr de je-
toane, şansele fiind egale
pentru toţi, cu excepţia câştigătorului probei. Jocul de poker se termi-
nă în momentul în care este desemnat câştigătorul. În funcţie de re-
zultatele obţinute, fiecare vedetă primeşte un număr de puncte, ur-
mând ca la final acestea să se transforme în bani. Clasamentul final
va decide cine este câştigătorul.
Pe lângă cele opt persoane publice, acest reality show va da o şan-
să şi celor de acasă, celor pasionaţi de poker, să intre în cursa pentru
marele premiu. Astfel, pe parcurs vor intra în Clubul de poker şi oa-
meni obişnuiţi, adevăraţii jucători de poker. Lupta s-ar putea să nu fie
atât de uşoară pe cât şi-ar închipui, întrucât vedetele noastre stau din
ce în ce mai bine la capitolul poker. Nu au ele experienţa, dar nici nu
se dau bătute cu una, cu două!
Pentru cei din faţa micului ecran însă, parcursul este următorul: po-
sibilitatea intrării la masă alături de vedete, toţi cei ce au jucat pe site-
ul PokerStars.net şi s-au calificat într-una dintre finalele săptămânale

About the program and the rules of the game
The reality show Poker Club can be watched on every Sunday on
Prima Tv and during the eight episodes, each 45 minutes long, the
stars must accumulate as many information as possible about the
mind sport, playing one against the other. They will discover impor-
tant things about themselves, since they will have to face some non-
conformist tasks that will try their physical and emotional resistance.
After each task, the contestants are evaluated and according to the
results just one can be the winner of the task. The points are trans-
formed into tallies for the poker game. A doctor, a psychologist, a de-
tective and Toni Judet, Poker Stars Team pro player, will appreciate
the performance of the contestants and decide upon the winner.
At the end of each episode, the stars meet at the poker table,
competing one against the other until the winner is declared. Each
star will receive the same number of tallies, except for the task win-
ner. The poker game ends when the winner is declared. According to
the results, each star receives a number of points that will be trans-
formed into money. The final classification will decide the winner.
This reality show will give a chance to the people in front of the tv,
especially to those who love poker, to play for the big award. During
the contest, there will be several normal people entering the race,
next to the real poker players. The contest might not be as easy as
they would imagine, since our stars have improved their skills. They
don’t have experience, but they struggle!
For the audience, the steps are the following: for entering and
playing next to the stars, you must visit the PokerStars.net website
and qualify for one of the finals, and got invited by the producers to a
live casting, that will represent one episode. More details regarding

The big pot
Each episode brings a new challenge, but also the possibility of
accumulating more knowledge on poker, the stars are trying to win
the award at the end of the show- 10.000 Euros, but also a participa-
tion pack to the European Poker Tour in Prague for 7.300 Euros, du-
ring December 13-18, 2010. During the eight episodes, there will
also be eliminations- the final table will gather only six contestants,
stars and usual people. The total value of the prizes during the entire
show is 47.300 Euros.
The development of the show
The first four episodes present the eight stars, each a representa-
tive of the craft he/ she belongs to- music, acting, sport and others.
At the end of the fourt episode, two of the stars with the lowest sco-
re will be eliminate.
Within the fifth episode the preselecting of the contestants quali-
fied on line on PokerSrats.net will be presented. Three of the 70 par-
ticipants will become members of the Poker Club. The selection is
made upon poker knowledge, natural skills, appearance, math and
practical knowledge.

În primele patru episoade sunt
prezentate cele opt vedete selecţi-
onate, fiecare dintre acestea este
un reprezentat al breselei (actori-
ceşti, muzicale, sportive şi altele)
din care face parte. La finalul celui
de-al patrulea episod, două dintre
vedetele care au acumulat cel mai
mic punctaj vor fi eliminate din
emisiune.

După zeci de ani de existenţă într-o stare deplorabilă, Complexul Ca-
sino din Mamaia are șansa unui nou început datorită unui investitor itali-
an, care și-a propus să readucă pe harta turistică a staţiunii o clădire cu
o istorie de aproape opt decenii.
Istoricul monumentului arhitectural de la malul mării
În 1920, după primul război mondial începea reconstrucţia staţiunii
Mamaia, puternic devastată de conflict. Patru ani mai târziu aici funcţio-
nau un bufet, un restaurant de clasă, o bodegă-patiserie și o șalupă
confortabilă și luxoasă. În 1930 a început construirea Cazinoului Mama-
ia și a clădirii băilor. Amprenta asupra proiectului îi aparţine arhitectului
Victor G. Stephănescu, fiul compozitorului George Stephănescu, figură
marcantă a muzicii românești și întemeietorul Operei Române. La 15
august 1935 cazinoul a fost inaugurat în prezenţa Regelui Carol al II-
lea, a membrilor Guvernului și a municipalităţii din Constanţa. Pasarela
de la Casino a devenit repede un punct de atracţie al staţiunii și, practic,
oricine își petrecea vacanţa la Mamaia trebuia să facă măcar o prome-
nadă pe construcţia lungă de 105 metri. De asemenea și cazinoul își
întâmpina oaspeţii din înalta societate cu spaţii moderne, svelte, aerate,
cu o notă discretă de eleganţă și confort.
Cazinoul, opera unuia dintre cei mai cunoscuţi arhitecţi români

Complex Casino Mamaia era în trecut un magnet pentru turiştii
străini
Cazinoul este un simbol al epocii de aur a staţiunii, când oameni din
întreaga Europă veneau în acest loc, însă numai cei cu dare de mână își
permiteau ca destinaţie de vacanţă însorita staţiune românească. În
1934 la Mamaia au fost înregistraţi 12.000 de vizitatori din Polonia, Un-
garia și Cehoslovacia.
În primele zile ale anului 1936 se începea executarea celor 600 de
cabine de băi, precum și a podului din beton, cu tobogan maritim, la ca-
pătul căruia era proiectat un bar.
Cel de-al doilea război mondial a distrus atmosfera boemă care dom-
nnea în Mamaia. Dar, în anul 1960 a început refacerea staţiunii. Ansam-
blul arhitectural cuprindea șapte hoteluri cu 9-12 etaje, 10 hoteluri cu
patru etaje, 10 restaurante, trei baruri de zi și două de noapte, cazinoul
cu diferite săli de joc, bufete-braserii, trei centre comerciale, două tea-
tre-cinematograf în aer liber, cluburi nautice, parcuri de distracţie și nu-

After years of deplorable state, Mamaia Casino Complex has the
chance of a new beginning due to an Italian investor who proposes to
bring back on the touristic map of the resort a building with at least
eight decades of history.
The history of the architectural monument at the seaside
In 1920, after World War II the reconstruction of Mamaia resort, de-
vastated by the conflict begins. Four years later a buffet, a classy re-
staurant, a boozer and pastry shop were opened here, as well a com-
fortable and luxurious boat. In 1930 the construction of Mamaia
Casino and the bathrooms building begin. The mark of the project be-
longs to the architect Victor G. Stefanescu, the son of the great com-
poser George Stefanescu, important figure of the Romanian music and
the founder of the Romanian Opera. In August 15, 1935, the casino is
inaugurated in the presence of Carol II of Romania, the members of
the Govern and representatives of the municipality. The foot bridge of
the Casino became in a short while an important attraction of the re-
sort and practically, every visitor would take at least one walk on the
105 meters long construction. The casino would welcome its high life
guests with modern, aired, harmonious spaces, with a smooth line of
elegancy and comfort.

hănescu was one of the Roma-
nian architects who marked
the buildings with eclectic and
neo Romanian orientation on
the first half of the 20 th cen-
tury.
Mamaia Casino Complex used to be a magnet for the foreign
tourists
The casino is a symbol of the golden age of the entire resort, when
the wealthy European would come here and spend their holydays. In
1934, a number of 12.000 visitors from Poland, Hungary and Czecho-
slovakia were registered in Mamaia.
On the first days of the year 1936, the construction of the 600 bath

Semi bluff, the step that can give the mediocre cards the
chance to win the pot
Pro poker means, for the passionate ones, emotion. Although they

mulţi nu recomandă rolul lui Pinocchio la masa de joc, întrucât această
metodă poate aduce și pierderi foarte mari. De asemenea, bluferii
prinși la showdown nu mai au șanse să câștige nici cu un semibluf. Și,

Ce te-a determinat să răspunzi la provocarea celor de la Poker

Pokerul este un sport care-mi place foarte mult, iar Clubul de Poker
este unul dintre cele mai interesante formate de televiziune din ultima
vreme. Am avut o idee asemănătoare acum șapte-opt ani, am făcut un
demo cu pokerul la Antena 1, într-adevăr nu era cu Texas Hold’em, dar
prevedeam cumva explozia pokerului și în televiziune, dar și în societate
pentru că el conţine ceea ce îi trebuie spectatorului: dramă, adrenalină,
personaje foarte clar conturate, are un spaţiu unde totul se desfășoară
în faţa ochilor tăi, poţi să te identifici cu unul din jucători și mai are un
element care place foarte mult, banul, acesta fiind și factorul
declanșator. Faptul că banii sunt la vedere, indiferent dacă cineva
câștigă sau pierde, și că totul se petrece în faţa lor, asta îi atrage pe tele-
spectatori. Chiar dacă banii sunt motorul în pokerul profesionist, jocul
este cel care creează campionate. Astfel apar circuite unde jucătorii ar
vrea să meargă, cunosc oameni pe care ajung să-i respecte și are ele-
mentul acesta senzaţional de democraţie, care în viaţa reală este rar în-
tâlnit sau chiar imposibil. Nu vorbesc doar de egalitatea între sexe și de
faptul că între o femeie și un bărbat nu este niciun fel de diferenţă. Este
vorba de faptul că victoria este realizată pe speţele proprii, aceasta este
vizbilă și recompensată în faţa tuturor, ceea ce în viaţa de zi cu zi nu se
întâmplă. Eu cred că ar fi mult mai bine dacă lumea politică ar funcţiona
la masa de Hold’em pentru că este mult mai sincer, mult mai straight și
mult mai fair. În schimbul unor negocieri în spate aș prefera un blind cin-
stit în faţa tuturor și în felul ăsta vezi măcar și strategia devoalat în faţa
ochilor tăi și nu făcută undeva în spatele ușilor închise, într-o cârciumă
mirosind a mucegai. E mai bun pokerul decât viaţa politică pentru că e
mai cinstit, mai drept decât societatea.
Ce ne poţi spune despre Clubul de Poker?
Este o coproducţie majoră dintre Olanda, Prima, Poker Stars, mulţi ju-
cători foarte importanţi, care stau la o masă și toţi au hotărât cum să ia-

Ce părerea ai despre faptul că pokerul a fost declarat, în mai

Era previzibil. Când stăteam în căminul studenţesc era o dihotomie
senzaţională între cei care jucau. Eu am imaginea inginerului, de aceea
am și un fel de superioritate arogantă. Inginerul are ciorapi albi, ascultă

What made you answer the challenge of Poker Stars?
Poker is the sport I love very much, and the Poker Club is one of the
most interesting Tv formats I have watched lately. I had an idea like that
7-8 years ago; I put together a demo with poker for Antena 1. It was
not with Texas Hold ‘em, but I has this good feeling about the explosion
of poker within TV and the society because poker has what the specta-
tor needs: drama, adrenaline, definite characters, a space where
everything happens right in front of you, you can identify with one of the
players… and it also has one element we enjoy- money. The fact that
we can see the money, regardless their winning or losing, attracts the
viewers. Even if money is the motor in pro poker, the game is the one
creating the tournaments. There are created circuits where the players
wish to get in, where they can meet people they pay respect to… it also
has this sensational democratic feeling that in real life is so difficult or
even impossible to reach; I am not talking just about the sex equality,
and the fact that there are no differences between men and women. It
is about the victory, achieved on one self, the visible victory awarded in
front of everybody that is not usual in our everyday life. I believe that the
political environment would function even better on the grounds of
Hold’em; it would be more honest, straight and fair. In return of hidden
negotiation, I’d rather have a fair blind in front of everybody. This way we
could see the strategy in front of our eyes, not see just the results co-
ming from the back door of a smelly joint. Poker is much better than the
political life, since it is fair, above the society itself.
What can you tell about the Poker Club?
Poker Club is a major coproduction between Holland, Prime, Poker
Stars, many important gamblers who took a sit at the table and decided
to make this work. The Dutch have the knowhow of the phenomenon,
Prime has the best viewers, well trained for this format, Poker Stars has
the huge internet knowhow and gaming operation, and Gheorghe has
the knowledge of getting all these things together around one table.
What do you think about the fact that poker has been decla-
red, in May, the game of mind?
It was predictable. Within the campus, there was this sensational divi-
sion of the players. I have the vision of an engineer, and therefore a cer-
tain superior arrogance. The engineer has white socks, listens to Pink
Floyd, reads Isaac Asimov and plays bridge. Playing this game, I used to
think of myself as the greatest pensive in the campus, while the poker
players were just gangsters- smoking, drinking and missing classes. I
used to make the apology of poker against bridge, considering bridge a
more mechanical, predictable, and easier game, no more than numbe-
ring. Putting the games on balance, all the elements that could not be
perfectly accounted, as the moment of interaction with the opponent,
the bluffs, your image projection at the table, you could create persona-
lity, real or not, functional within that space. I read a very interesting
book, where there was this analysis about the fact that within the depth
of the American policy there is a doctrine according to which an Ameri-
can president cannot be a good leader unless he is a good poker pla-
yer. There were statistics and stories of the greatest poker games, of
the greatest American presidents, and there was even a Top 10 where
the first position belonged to Nixon, within a game that took place on a
port plane, during the war, and the players represented the fleet of the
origin country. This was a historic encounter, and the game was entirely
consigned. But we are talking about an old poker game, totally diffe-
rent. Hold’ em is an upgrade, a 2.1, exactly the difference before 2000
and after, a turbo poker, faster, with a younger target, with power and
speed. However, that Old School Five Cards had prominent social ele-
ments, story, conversations, wasted time and was kind with the player.
You bet your best cards or you like bluffing?
I am completely based on the cards. Secondly, I am not ready for
Hold’em. I break out a second later, so to speak, while this game needs
immediate reaction. I lose a second because I watch what happens aro-
und, then I am completely based on the card, and therefore, I am at
least 30-40% behind and I find it very difficult to catch the game. I can-
not play Hold’em yet, I am still enjoying the five cards poker. As a player,
I am building certain cards, I make you pay and make you develop a
certain feeling about me. The minute I believe I have developed the fee-
ling of being a cards player, I start changing my style and play accor-
ding to all the steps before and start bluffing. But this is not a perfect

să pornești din prima secundă, iar eu pierd timp stând în carte, pierd timp
încercând să văd ce se întâmplă și deja sunt cu 30% - 40% în urmă și
mi-e foarte greu să recuperez. Încă nu pot să joc Hold’em, sunt în conti-
nuare pentru pokerul de cinci cărţi. Ca jucător lucrez în construcţie, adi-
că, în general, îmi construiesc anumite cărţi, te oblig să le plătești și să-ţi
creezi o anumită senzaţie despre mine. În clipa în care cred că am for-
mat senzaţia că sunt jucător de carte, atunci încep să-mi schimb jocul și
încep să merg, bazându-mă pe ce am făcut până atunci, încep să bluffez.
Dar acesta nu e un sistem perfect. Sunt un jucător mediocru, însă entu-
ziast.
Cum vezi piaţa locală de gambling?
Din punctul meu de vedere piaţa este una primitivă pentru că găsim
locuri extrem de bine realizate, iar la capitolul cazinouri nu cred că Ro-
mânia are vreo întârziere. Însă percepţia industriei este jalnică, pentru că,
în primul rând, gambling-ul este asociat cu viciul și nu trebuie să ne dăm
filozofi fiindcă, într-adevăr, segmentul atrage pegră și aceasta creează
știre negativă, iar pe o perioadă de 15-20 de ani consolidezi în mintea
oamenilor o imagine, care cuprinde infracţiune, bani cash, evaziune fis-
cală, chinezi, recuperatori cu bâtele, cămătari și gambling-ul capătă re-
prezentarea de acum. La capitolul producţie, ceea ce oferă industria în
România se ridică la nivelul întregii lumi. Venirea previzibilă a acestui
eșalon puternic de tineri va obliga gambling-ul să se schimbe pentru că,
pe de o parte, ei sunt sofisticaţi, sunt la zi cu toate noutăţile. Dacă ei vor
reuși să atragă atenţia asupra acestui segment, industria va crește, iar
dacă nu vor putea face asta, gambling-ul va rămâne într-un con de pe-
numbră. Totul se reduce de fapt la ieșirea în legalitate, scoaterea între-
gului fenomen în spaţiul public. Iar pentru asta îţi trebuie zeci de ani de
zile de constanţă. Este diferenţa dintre infracţiune și controlul statului. In-
troducerea în circuitul public spală, inevitabil, totul este la vedere și devi-
ne transparent, nu mai apare umbra de îndoială.
Ce părere ai despre jocul responsabil, se vede așa ceva în Ro-
mânia?
Nu se vede, dar iar previzionez că cei care vor să crească industria vor
introduce acest element. Și jocul responsabil este un pas foarte impor-
tant pentru că vorbim de adicţii. Se discută despre droguri periculoase,
dar și gaming-ul este un drog periculos, care trebuie luat cu măsură, cu
raţiune și cu intelect. La masa de joc te așezi ca să te distrezi, deși noi
spunem aceste lucruri, de la Dostoievski încoace, oamenii își vând veri-
gheta și se împușcă prin cazinouri. La o dimensiune ceva mai româneas-
că, își amanetează casa la cămătari. Iar astfel de povești generează o
emoţie negativă. Dacă s-ar organiza industria locală a jocurilor de noroc
ar trebui să ţină cont și de acest aspect.
Cum crezi că ar trebui să acţioneze reprezentanţii industriei
pentru a-și schimba imaginea deformată din viziunea opiniei pu-
blice și a autorităţilor?
Le-aș sugera să se uite înspre locurile care au trecut prin astfel de
fenomene, înspre Vegas și întreaga lui istorie, să vadă care sunt greșelile
făcute de ei și să nu le repete, pentru că nu au timpul necesar să treacă
prin asta. Cineva a făcut deja asta și se știe că automatele generează
mai mult profit decât mesele de la live game. Practic, e vorba de un exer-
ciţiu de marketing, și cum eu sunt un om de marketing, pentru mine
acest segment este prioritar în business, chiar dacă unii văd lucrurile al-
tfel. Iar comunicarea constantă și coerentă ajută mult industria. Dar asta
nu este o problemă specifică doar lor. Spre exemplu, fotbalul românesc
este o adunătură de băieţi cu ceasuri scumpe, care fac scandal, dau din
buric și care din când în când mai cumpără sau vând pe cineva. Premier
League a avut aceeași problemă, dar a pus în aplicare ceea ce trebuia
făcut și datorită acestui fapt este acum o uzină uriașă de bani. Pentru as-
ta au curăţat totul de la bază, conștienţi de faptul că scandalul îndepăr-
tează, au sporit numărul oamenilor de pază, au modificat legea și le-au
interzis accesul huliganilor pe stadion. Și, încet, încet antrenorii au deve-
nit vorbitori de șase limbi străine, doctori în business, în sport. Revenind
la gambling-ul local, mai este un element foarte important, despre care
nu știu dacă este luat în calcul în momentul de faţă, adicţia și problemati-
ca socială.
Cum crezi că ar trebui susţinut turismul de gambling?
Este aberantă întrebarea pentru că nu ai la ce să te aștepţi de la au-
torităţi. Ne-am pierde vremea dacă am sta să ne gândim la ceea ce ar

system. I am a mediocre player, yet enthusiastic.
What’s your opinion on the local gambling market?
From my point of view the local gambling market is a primitive one,
since we find very good placements, and regarding the casinos I don’t
think Romania is delayed. Yet, the perception on the industry is piteous,
since first of all, gambling is associated to vice. We mustn’t theorize
though, since this particular segment attracts the underworld, and this
creates negative news. On a 15 to 20 years period this develops a cer-
tain image in peoples’ minds that includes contravention, cash, tax evasi-
on, Chinese, dangerous retrievers, ferrets. Regarding the production, the
industry in Romania provides everything it is offered on international le-
vel. The predictable rise of this powerful young spirit will make gambling
change, since the youngsters today are sophisticated; they are connec-
ted to everyday news. If they succeed in attracting the attention upon
this segment, the industry will grow. If not, gambling will remain hidden.
It all reduces to going beyond the legal limits, getting the entire pheno-
menon in the public space. It takes many years of constant work to achi-
eve that. This is the difference between contravention and the control of
the state. Introducing gambling within the public circuit, inevitable it all
becomes transparent and doubt disappears.
What do you think about the responsible game, have you seen
it in Romania?
No, I haven’t, but my guess is that those who wish to make this indus-
try grow will introduce this element. The responsible gambling is a very
important step, since we are dealing with addiction. There are talks abo-
ut strong drugs, but gambling is also a dangerous drug, that has to be
controlled with ration and intellect. You take a sit at the gambling table
to have fun, even if, from Dostoyevsky until now days, we are talking
about selling our wedding rings and shooting one another in the casi-
nos. Accordingly to a more Romanian dimension, these people are mort-
gaging their houses. These stories only develop negative emotion. If
there was a local gambling industry, they should consider this.
How do you this the representatives of the industry should act
for changing the contorted image perceived by the public and the
authorities?
I would suggest having a look at the places that had this experience
in the past, like Vegas and its entire history, to notice the mistakes and
not repeat them, because they don’t have the necessary time to go thro-
ugh this. Someone already did that and it is known that the machines
generate more money than the live gaming tables. Practically, we are
talking about a marketing exercise, and since I am a marketing man, for
me this segment is prior in business, even if some would look at that in
a different manner. The constant and coherent communication helps
the industry a lot. But this is not an issue specific to this segment only.
For example, the Romanian football is a gathering of guys with expensi-
ve watches who provoke scandals, shake their bellies and from time to
time sell or buy someone. Premier League had the same problem, but it
applied the right rules and now it became a huge money machine. But
they have cleaned every spot and learned that scandal only brings rejec-
tion, they have increased the security representatives, modified the le-
gislation and banned the access of the hooligans on the stadium. Slowly,
the coaches started speaking six languages; they graduated business
or sports schools. Turning to the local gambling, there is another very
important issue that should be considered- addiction and the social po-
int of view.
How do you think the gambling tourism should be supported?
This is out of the question; the authorities are not going to get invol-
ved. It would be a waste of time if we thought about what the authorities
should do. It is useless and unproductive. I believe in any cash or busine-
ss generator, I believe in tourism in any form, and gambling is a segment
of tourism that generates large spending per capita. But it is naive to
think that in this lifetime you would have a minimum positive effect from
the authorities. If the gabling tourism is supported, them a large number
of jobs would appear, since this segment requires a lot of services.
Why did you accept the proposal from Prime? What’s the no-
velty of the tv show “Hello, people”?
I have accepted the offer because it resembles to the situation of the

Am acceptat oferta pentru că seamănă cu starea de la mijlocul anilor
’90, provocată de România și PRO TV la început. N-ai cum să spui pas la
așa ceva, e starea de realitate la început, acei trei ani de dezvoltare.
Acum este momentul în care piaţa este pe muchie, apar, dispar operatori
din domeniu. În al doilea rând, este un proiect pe care nu l-am făcut. Mă
mândresc că am fost DJ, am făcut entertainment pe plajă, concursuri cu
premii, analiză politică, comentarii sociale, anchete, talk-show-uri, știri, am
făcut aproape tot. Iar aici e ca și cum ai sări noaptea pe întuneric cu
ochii închiși într-un bazin. Deși crezi că știi totul, că știi limbile, că știi me-
seria, e ca la masa de joc. Deodată, într-o fracţiune de secundă totul s-a
schimbat, fără să îţi dai seama de ce și trebuie să regândești ca la înce-
put. Trebuie să fii în continuă priză. De asemenea, Prime e o televiziune
foarte bună. Noi funcţionăm pe modelul saxon, dar rușii au o televiziune
impecabilă, de înaltă calitate. Cantitatea de umor dată pe televizor e uci-
gătoare și vorbesc de umor de calitate, nu de bășcălie. Un alt motiv ar fi
ceea ce se întâmplă în Moldova acum, alegerile, apartiţia unor personaje
noi, plecarea celor vechi, ideologiile noi care intră, felul în care ele sunt
asumate de populaţie sau nu, dacă sunt asimilate sau nu, dansul între
rusofoni și românofoni. Totul e ca la poker și cu un blind mare înaintea
ta, fără să vezi ce au licitat ceilalţi.

proud to have been a DJ, beach entertainer; I have made awards con-
tests, political analysis, social disputes, investigations, talk shows, and
news programs, almost everything. This is like jumping at night with yo-
ur eyes closed, into a pool. Even if you think you know it all, you know
your abilities; the language… is just like when you are at the table. In a
second everything changes, without even realizing why and you must
change your strategy. You have to be in shape. Prime is a very good TV
station. We function according to the Saxon model, but the Russians
have a great television model, high quality. The humor quantity on tele-
vision is enormous. And I am talking about good stuff, not joking aro-
und. Another reason is what happens in Moldavia, the elections, new
characters appear, the old characters are leaving the scene, new ideo-
logies, the way they are supported and assimilated by the population,
the dance between the Romanians and the Russians. It all happens just
like in a poker game, with a big blind ahead without knowing what the
others are bidding.

Cum a primit publicul emisiunea ta? What did the public believe about your show?
Nu pot vorbi decât din punctul meu de vedere și chiar îmi place și e I can only speak from my point of view. I like it and I think it is ok. The
ok. Dar pot să spun că emisiunea are un market share de 20%. Noi tv show has a market share of 20%. We used to have these numbers
aveam share-urile astea în anii ’90, iar asta înseamnă că facem ceva. back in the nineteenth and this means we are really doing something.

Ce planuri mai ai, din punct de vedere profesional, în perioada
următoare?
În media am două proiecte în două ţări, mai am câteva în România, dar
momentan sunt în așteptare, le dezvolt. Întotdeauna am proiecte care
nu-mi ies sau la care mă aștept să-mi iasă. În momentul în care se leagă
comunic, dar până atunci întotdeauna pescuiesc, dar mai des nu prind.
Eu în Deltă mă duc cu încăpăţânare și stau trei zile și nu prind nimic, dar
sunt acolo.

What are your professional plans for the future?
I have to important projects in two different countries, few in Roma-
nia, but I am on hold, so to speak. I always have project that don’t see
the light, or I expect them to see the light. When they connect I talk
about them, but until that moment, I am developing, searching… most
of the times catching nothing… I visit Delta, fish for three days without
getting anything, but I am there, and this is the most important thing.

Jucătorii profesioniști sunt cei care, în jurul anilor 1800, au făcut ca
pokerul din vestul sălbatic american să facă înconjurul lumii. În trecut,
jucătorii profesioniști inspirau celor din exterior o oarecare neîncredere,
întrucât activitatea lor nu părea să aducă beneficii orașelor și comunită-
ţilor unde jucau. De fapt, mulţi jucători din vest trișau, fapt care a dus la
crearea multor probleme celorlalţi jucători atunci când erau prinși. În
final, majoritatea situaţiilor se incheia cu violenţe. În urma acestor inci-
dente, ce păreau să meargă mână în mână cu jocurile de noroc din ca-
zinouri, comunitatea a început să îi denigreze atât pe jucători, cât și pe
operatorii de jocuri de noroc. Astfel, profesioniștii s-au văzut nevoiţi să
găsească un spaţiu unde să-și poată muta activitatea fără să mai atra-
gă suspiciunile celor din jur. Ei au dus jocurile de noroc pe apă, în vase
mari, care străbăteau râurile americane cu singurul scop de a adăposti
acest stil de viaţă.
La începutul anilor 1800, râurile Mississippi și Missouri erau adevăra-
te autostrăzi interstatale ale timpului. Cum costurile relocării bunurilor
pe pământ erau foarte ridicate și reprezentau o mare pierdere de timp,
cursurile apelor au oferit o modalitate ușoară de transformare a naviga-
ţiei într-o afacere profitabilă. Aceste vase măreţe realizau croaziere pe
cursurile de apă și erau adevărate hoteluri plutitoare, ce ofereau o vari-
etate de jocuri de noroc în care se rulau sume mari de bani.
James Bowie, Doc Holiday, Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Ja-
ne și Wild Bill Hickock sunt doar câţiva dintre cei mai faimoși jucători
profesioniști ce puteau fi întâlniţi la un joc obișnuit de poker pe vapor.

the casinos, the community started to denigrate the players, but also
the gambling operators. The pro players had to find a new space for
their activity without attracting any suspicions. They brought gambling
on water, inside large ships that would go across the American rivers
with one purpose only- hosting this life style.
At the beginning of 1800, Mississippi and Missouri were the inter-
state highways of the time. As the costs of the relocation of the goods
on land were high and represented a waste of time, the water flows
offered an easy way to transform navigation into a profitable business.
These great ships would cross over the water, turning into floating ho-
tels that offered different gaming involving large amounts.
James Bowie, Doc Holiday, Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Ja-
ne and Wild Bill Hickock are just few of the most famous names who
would gamble on ship poker. Some players preferred cruise ships for
intimacy. The pro player could embark in any available ports in Missouri
or Mississippi for gambling and winning large amounts, and then di-
sembark anywhere without even divulging the identity. Along the years,
many cities decided to forbid gambling, hence the river ships represen-
ted the only legal place for gambling, making them very crowded pla-
ces.
The first ship built exclusive for the touristic trips was named Prin-
zess in Victoria Luise and was commanded by Albert Ballin, the gene-
ral manager of Hamburg America Line, at the end of the 19 th century.
As a successful model always attracts the others, soon many compa-
nies followed his example, designing ships that could easily be trans-
formed for adapting to the cruises in the summer time. The practice of
the cruise ships, as experimented today, is the simple result of the
competition for attracting the clients. Meanwhile, the transatlantic
ships added luxurious accessories in order to create a unique experi-
ence.
Today, the cruise ships reached impressive standards. In 1980, the
standards changed with launching the first “super ship” of the Carib-
bean, SS Norway SS. The cruise ships became larger, and the luxury
became a must. If at the beginning the cruises were focused around
the Caribbean Islands, Alaska and Mexico, they are now floating all

orașe au interzis gambling-ul, astfel că vasele de pe râuri reprezentau
singurul loc legal pentru jocuri de noroc, transformându-le în locuri foar-

Primul vas construit în exclusivitate călătoriilor turistice a fost numit
Prinzess in Victoria Luise şi comandat la sfârşitul secolului al XIX-lea de
către Albert Ballin, manager general la Hamburg-America Line. Cum un
model de succes atrage întotdeauna adepţi și alte companii i-au urmat
rapid exemplul, proiectând nave ce puteau fi uşor transformate pentru a
se adapta croazierelor din timpul verii. Practica vaselor de croazieră, aşa
cum este experimentată astăzi, este simplul rezultat al competiţiei de
atragere a clientelei. Între timp vasele transatlantice au adăugat acce-

și Eastern European Gaming Summit (EEGS) au fost cele mai
apreciate activităţi dedicate gambling-ului din Europa de Est și
Europa de Est. Timp de trei zile, în perioada 4 - 6 octombrie, Sofia
a fost capitala gambling-ului european, cu cea de-a treia ediţie a
BEGE și cel de-al treilea an consecutiv în care s-a susţinut EEGS.

Europa, Orientul Mijlociu, Asia și Africa de Nord au fost reprezentate

în cadrul celor două evenimente prin intermediul a 52 de companii din
ţări precum Bulgaria, Canada, Franţa, Germania, Polonia, România, Ser-

Unite și Dubai. Expoziţia de la Sofia a reunit sub cele două sectoare BE-

duced the latest products for gaming, amusement and en-
tertainment centers, hotels and casinos. More than 2800
visitors from different countries attended the events. The
annual BEGE Awards ceremony distinguished persons
and companies for their contribution to the progress of
the entertainment and gaming industry in the South-Eas-
tern Europe. Companies, supporting the Responsible Ga-
ming project in Bulgaria were also acknowledged.
Top experts representing gaming associations, instituti-
ons, international consulting firms were speakers at the
Eastern European Gaming Summit, which had as a keyno-
te speaker the Chairman of the Bulgarian Gaming Com-
mission, Mr. Kaloyan Krastev, The focus was on the Eas-
tern European countries - changes in the regulatory
environment, challenges and opportunities, online gaming,
forecasts and trends for the region. Representatives of the Gaming
Associations of Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Republic
of Macedonia, Austria, Germany and Poland analyzed the country
specifics. Additional opinions were presented by representatives of
International Masters of the Gaming Law /IMGL/ and European Ga-
ming and Amusement Federation /EUROMAT/.
The latest developments on online gaming regulations were intro-
duced at the panel for online gaming operators with representatives
from Betfair, Offsidegaming and Olympic Entertainment Group. The

aţia Bulgară a Jocurilor de Noroc (BTAMOGI), alături de
parteneri terapeuţi, a fost încă un punct de discuţie.
Cele doă seminarii susţinute de EEGS Masterclass au
avut succes, datorită concentrării pe Psihologia Serviciilor
pentru Clienţi și managementul personalului angajat. Semi-
nariile au fost susţinute în parteneriat cu Administraţia Bul-
gară a Resurselor Umane și Asociaţia de Dezvoltare-
BHRDMDA, împreună cu Centrul de Instruire în Afaceri
Arthur Adams.

nerships with the Bulgarian Human Resources Management and De-
velopment Association - BHRMDA and the leading Business Training
Center ’Arthur Adams’.
BEGE and EEGS are looking forward to continuing the tradition to
bring together the gaming and entertainment industry from Eastern
Europe and South Eastern region and be the leading place where
the latest trends and achievements are presented.

LEGISLATIE
In Canada, gambling has a
long history, but the first re-
gulations were implemented
120 years ago. The first con-
signment regarding this seg-
ment appeared within the
Penal Code that in 1892 wo-
uld forbid all the activities
within this domain, excep-
ting the horse race. Through
a certain section, “contra-
vention against religion,
ethics and public comfort”
attached to the legislation,
the Canadian govern would
forbid almost all types of
gambling. Between 1886 and
1888 other contravention ac-
tivities were introduced. Des-
pite the fact that the bets on
horse races did not have a
clear and elaborated legisla-
tive framework, the authoriti-
es accepted them. This Pe-
nal Code was based on the
English law, assumed by Ca-
nada in 1867. The gambling
prohibition has been gradu-
ally repealed ever since.
Along the years, the Penal
Code was changed and
gambling gained space on a
small scale or for humanitarian
reasons. Between 1892 and
1969 the Canadians could bet
on horse races, but they were
allowed to participate to the
summer fairs. The charitable
activities supported by
gambling led to the modificati-
on of the Penal Code in 1969,
which allowed the provincial
authorities to use the lotto
funds for financing important
events, as The Olympic Games
in Montreal in 1976. An
amendment of the law authori-
zed the districts to manage and
control the lottery systems and
to allow the charity groups to
do the same under license.
However, the federal govern
had total control over these ac-
tivities.

mult să învăţ. Acum am mai mult timp pentru mine și mă bucur de via-

Care sunt obiectivele tale în poker pentru următorii ani?
Îmi doresc să fiu pe locul întâi în tot ce întreprind. Acum nu mai joc
pentru bani, ci pentru că îmi doresc să rămân în fruntea clasamentului
în istoria pokerului profesionist. Acum Phill Ivey este clasat înaintea
mea, dar trebuie să câștig un turneu să ajung mai sus. Merg mereu la

Cum te-ai caracteriza tu în câteva cuvinte?
Când eu nu joc la cel mai înalt nivel, nu joc atât de bine, iar ăsta ar
putea fi considerat unul dintre punctele mele slabe pentru că dacă nu
sunt sume foarte mari în joc nu joc poker foarte bine și nu mă pot
concentra. Dar o asemenea atitudine nu mă dezamăgește foarte mult,

acestui loc. Am văzut chiar și jocuri electronice ca la Vegas. Nu mă
așteptam să fie atât de frumos.
Ce-i trebuie unui jucător profesionist de poker să ajungă
campion?
Un jucător profesionist de poker trebuie să aibă
trei calităţi. Prima dintre acestea este abilitatea de a
înţelege matematica, dar asta nu presupune un efort
prea mare, pentru că se poate învăţa dintr-o carte.
Cea de-a doua însușire foarte importantă, pe care
trebuie să o posede jucătorul de poker profesionist
pentru a ajunge campion, este disciplina. Astfel, dacă
pierzi trebuie să fii calm pentru că dacă nu te poţi
stăpâni nu poţi merge mai departe. Este important să
știi să perzi și să și urmărești cum joacă adversarii
buni atunci când pierd. Practic, atunci poţi vedea ca-

I want to be the first in everything I do. I am not playing for money;
I want to stay on top of the pro poker history. Phill Ivery has a higher
position, but I must win one more tournament and get even higher. I
attend the World Series of poker to win the bracelets, this is my mo-
tivation now.
In all these years, since you have started playing poker, do
you remember a memorable moment?
In 2001, within World Series of Poker at Main Event, I lost becau-
se of my opponent. I have started one of my hands with an ace and a
king, cards that normally would announce a very good hand. The
other player, a German, had a pair of six…he took a strange playing
tactic (he laughs),, that determined me losing the pot. I remember
this hand because back then there were over 8000 players and I
don’t know if I will meet this chance again in my life.
Describe yourself in few words
When I’m not playing on the highest level, I am not as good as I
can be. This could be considered my weakness. If there is not a large
amount I don’t play well and I cannot concentrate. But this attitude
doesn’t disappoint me, I stick with the situation. On the other hand, I
think I am very good at analyzing the player’s psychology. I know
exactly when they lie.
How was the European Poker Tour Vienna?
I was lucky at the beginning, but then I had this hand where I lost a
lot of chips and I think that’s when my bad luck started at European
Poker Tour Vienne.
How do you find the atmosphere at Regent Casino?
I was impressed. I had no idea this casino is so roomy and nice. It
is clear, Sorin Constantinescu goes to Vegas every year, the casino

What does a pro poker player need to become champion?
A pro poker player needs three main qualities. The first- the ability
to understand math, but this doesn’t require a big effort, you can le-
arn it from a book. The second, very important quality is discipline.
Today, if you lose, you must be calm, because if you cannot have
control you cannot continue. It is important to know how to lose and
to watch the game of the good opponents when they lose. This is the
moment when you can see the real character of your opponents. You
cannot describe the game tactic if you don’t see the opponent losing.
The third element of the player is natural talent. At the same time, it
is essential for the player to be able to decode the psychology of his
opponents. This is the only way to know the decision they are about
to take. If math and discipline can be assimilated, talent cannot be
learnt.

I know they have taken the chance when they decided to enter the casino and gamble.

Roxana Nechita și-a început cariera în lumea jocurilor de noroc
în urmă cu cinci ani. Meseria de crupier i-a dat ocazia să vadă
locuri la care alţii nici nu visează. Acest job i-a oferit șansa să
plece pe vasele de croazieră, să cunoască oameni și locuri noi,
atât de pe Marea Mediterană, cât și din îndepărtatul ţinut al Irlan-
dei de Nord. Cei mai mulţi colegi de breaslă i-au urmat exemplul
și au colindat lumea în lung și-n lat prin prisma funcţiei lor. Fie că
au răspuns chemării oceanului, fie că au ales să lucreze în cazi-
nourile din alte ţări, mulţi dintre ei au trăit experienţe unice, care
le-au asigurat și venituri mai mari. Ea ne-a povestit cum se văd
jocurile de cealaltă parte a mesei, de lângă ruletă, cum a evoluat
cariera ei, dar și care sunt diferenţele dintre jucătorii români și
cei străini. Am putea spune că fiecare dealer are povestea lui, to-
tal diferită de a celorlalţi colegi, de la fiecare experienţă din cele
câte 20 de minute petrecute la fiecare masă de joc, până la cele

other stories, from each 20 minutes experience at one table,
to the most spectacular places visited. Despite all the rumors
from the outside, those working within this area are fascina-
ted by their job, most of them declare that once entered wi-

Cum a început povestea ta în lumea jo-
curilor de noroc? Ce te-a determinat să in-
tri în cotact cu acest domeniu?
Am aflat de la unii prieteni că munca în cazi-
nou are un avantaj din punct de vedere financi-
ar, comparativ cu alte joburi. Tot ei mi-au spus
că meseria nu presupune un efort ridicat, ba
din contră, este distractivă. Astfel, m-am hotărât
să încerc și eu să lucrez ca și crupier. Mi-am
depus CV-ul la un cazinou, m-au acceptat, mai
ales pentru că știam o limbă străină, întrucât
cunoștinţele de limba engleză reprezintă o con-
diţie obligatorie pentru cei care vor să lucreze
în acest domeniu. După un interviu cu manage-
rii cazinoului, cei acceptaţi începeau training-ul,
de aproximativ o lună, pentru a acumula
cunoștinţele necesare în această meserie.
Care a fost evoluţia numerică a aplicanţi-
lor de la începutul training-ului și până la
final?
Când am început training-ul sau școala de dealeri, cum o mai numim
noi, eram 25 de fete. Atunci când am luat eu contactul cu lumea jocuri-
lor de noroc, în 2005, se recrutau în special persoane de sex feminin.
La finalul cursului am mai rămas doar nouă pentru că unora li s-a părut
prea greu sau nu le-a plăcut. În schimb, noi l-am considerat un domeniu
atractiv și am ales să lucrăm ca dealeri.
Cum a evoluat cariera ta?
Iniţial mi-am dorit să mă pun la punct cu toate cerinţele acestui post
ca să pot lucra în străinătate. Cred că foarte mulţi colegi, aflaţi la înce-
put de drum, vor să înveţe această meserie ca să poată pleca apoi în
afara ţării, atât pentru bani, cât și pentru faptul că pot vizita întreaga lu-
me. Deși sunt conștienţi de faptul că atunci când optează pentru un
post peste hotare vor lucra pe o poziţie inferioară celei din România,
mulţi își asumă riscul ăsta. Dintre cei care pleacă în afara ţării, majorita-
tea prefera vasele de croazieră pentru că e cu totul altceva, oamenii
sunt diferiţi, clienţii sunt relaxaţi, joacă doar pentru distracţie. Totodată,
chiar dacă lucrezi mai ai și timp să stai la plajă câteva ore. Întradevăr,
este foarte plăcut să lucrezi pe vasele de croazieră și spun asta din pro-
pria mea experienţă. Eu am fost pe Marea Mediternaă, dar am colegi
care au văzut America. Și, ce-i drept, nu oricine își permite să viziteze
astfel de locuri, dar jobul de crupier iţi oferă șansa să faci asta. După ce
am lucrat doi ani pe vas am plecat în Irlanda de Nord, care mi-a plăcut
foarte mult. Am rămas surprinsă de atitudinea indiferentă a jucătorilor
faţă de sumele pierdute. Pentru ei jocul la cazinou nu este altceva decât
o metodă prin care își petrec timpul liber, și nicidecum o metodă prin

How did you story begin? What made you enter the gaming
segment?
Some friends told me once about the material advantages of
working in a casino, compared to other jobs. They also told me that
this job does not require great effort, but on contrary, is funny. Thus
I have decided to try working as a croupier. I applied, I got accep-
ted, and the fact that I speak a foreign language was a plus, since it
is a must for those willing to work in a casino. After the interview
with the casino managers, the accepted ones were starting the one
month training, for learning all the necessary knowledge.
What was the number of the appliers from the beginning of
the training to its end?
When I started the training or dealer school, as we call it, we we-
re 25 girls. In 2005, when I had my first contact to the gaming wor-
ld, women were the ones taking into consideration. At the end of
the training we were only nine left. Some of the girls didn’t like or
found the job too difficult. We considered the domain attractive and
choose to work as dealers.
How did your career evaluated?
First I wanted to learn all the requirements of this job in order to
work abroad. Many colleagues, on their first steps, want to learn
everything about this job and then leave abroad for money, but also
for the possibility to travel and visit the entire world. Even if they
are aware of the fact that applying abroad can put you on a secon-
dary position than the one in Romania, most of them take this
chance. Most of the ones accepted abroad, choose the cruise
ships, since people are different there, the clients are relaxed, and
they only play for fun. At the same time, even if you work, there is
still time to spend on the beach. Working on cruise ships is fun and
I am speaking from my own experience. I have been on the Medi-
terranean, but I have colleagues who saw America. Not all of us
can afford visiting these places, but the job gives this chance. After
working on the ship, for two years, I left for Northern Ireland, and I
really enjoyed working there.
I was surprised by the casual attitude of the players regarding
the amount they lose. Casino is nothing but a way of wasting their
spare time, and not a method of winning more money. The Romani-
ans come to the casino to win and not to have fun, that’s the diffe-
rence between them and the foreigners. Maybe 20% of the Roma-
nian players come here to have fun. Most of them are seeking for
winning, and some of them really win. I have seen people winning
every day, but trust me, it all depends on luck. After so many years I
really believe it is all about the lucky chance.
What are the requirements of your job?
When I come to work I let all my problems at home, I totally deta-
ch from my personal life, regardless the situations, and I am aware
that when I am working I have to adopt a jovial attitude, to smile a

Cât de solicitantă
este meseria de
crupier? Care sunt
atribuţiile pentru
acest post?
Poziţia de dealer este una care ne solicită foarte mult. Avem nevoie
de o maximă putere de concentrare, atenţie, pentru că facem calcule
foarte multe și dificile. Chiar dacă pare greu la început, atunci când te
obișnuiești ajungi să fii mult mai rapid la calcule și să crezi că ești ca-
pabil să practici această meserie, chiar dacă înainte nu păreai deloc
convins de asta. Practic, stăpânirea de sine, stabilitatea emoţiilor, ca-
pacitatea de a te detașa de viaţa personală în timpul lucrului, abilita-
tea de a calcula mental într-un ritm rapid, viteza de reacţie la mesele
de joc, dexteritatea, atenţia, spontaneitatea, dar și jovialitatea sunt
principalele atribuţii ale unui dealer bun. Important este ca în cele 20
de minute cât stai la masă să fii foarte atent atât la joc cât și la cerin-
ţele clientului și să încerci tot timpul să ceezi o atmosferă relaxată, de
bună dispoziţie. În general lucrăm opt ore pe zi, pauzele sunt de 20 de
minute și numărul lor depinde foarte mult de cât de aglomerat este
cazinoul. Putem avea pauze și la 20 de minute, dar și la o oră, în func-
ţie de numărul clienţilor și de cel al meselor deschise. Practic, multă
muncă fizică nu ar fi, dar jobul este foarte solicitant și te ţine în priză
tot timpul.

Is this job challenging? What are your attributions?
The dealer position is quite challenging. We need maximum con-
centration because we make a lot of calculations and this is not ea-
sy. Yet, even if at start the job might seen difficult, when you get
used to numbering you can actually become very good at it and su-
ited for the position. Self control, control the emotions, the capacity
of detaching from your personal life while working, dexterity, atten-
tion, spontaneity, but also joviality are the main attributions of a go-
od dealer. It is also very important to be very attentive at the game
during the 20 minutes spent on one table, to be careful with the
client’s needs, to create a relaxed atmosphere. Generally we work 8
hours a day, but this also depends on how crowded the casino is.
We can have breaks at every 20 minutes but also at every 60 minu-
tes, depending on the number of the clients and the iopened tables.

Cum vezi tu lumea cazinourilor din București?
După părerea mea, cazinourile din Capitală se situează la un nivel în-
alt, atât din punctul de vedere al jocurilor, cât și din cel al serviciilor. În
ceea ce privește clienţii cazinourilor din București aș putea spune că
ele sunt frecventate de oameni foarte diferiţi, de naţionalităţi distincte,
din toate zonele de activitate și de la orice nivel social. Oricum, noi tre-
buie să îi tratăm la fel, chiar dacă acel client de la masă este un parla-
mentar, om de afaceri, sportiv sau orice altceva, indiferent de rasă, naţi-
oanlitate sau etnie, toţi sunt egali pentru noi.
Ce impact a avut asupra breslei voastre contextul economic
actual?
Piaţa cazinourilor nu mai merge bine acum și tot mai mulţi se gân-
desc să plece din nou în străinătate. S-au închis multe cazinouri, cei ca-
re au rămas fără muncă au plecat în afara ţării pentru că nu își mai per-
miteau să trăiască în condiţiile astea. Iar cei care pleacă în străinătate
pot câștiga și mai mult acolo, în funcţie de valoarea contractului.
Ce diferenţe ai mai observat între jucătorii români și cei străini,
de-a lungul celor cinci ani de activitate?
Românii sunt mai dificili, sunt irascibili, mai agresivi și la joc, dar și din
punct de vedere verbal. Pot spune că aici unde lucrez nu sunt permise
asemenea reacţii, dar au fost și vremuri în care clienţii din cazinourile
bucureștene vorbeau foarte urât cu dealerul, dar acum, din câte am ob-
servat, lucrurile s-au schimbat și e mai bine.
Ce diferenţă există între cazinourile din România și cele de
peste hotare?
Cazinourile din România sunt mult mai frumoase. La capitolul design
noi stăm cel mai bine, chiar avem stil, în special cazinoul la care lucrez
pentru că beneficiază de o arhitectură modernă. De asemenea, aș pu-
tea spune că dealerii români, dar și cei europeni, sunt cei mai buni în
meserie. Suntem foarte apreciaţi unde mergem, pot să spun că suntem
cei mai buni. În schimb, în străinătate, clientii sunt cei care schimbă toa-
tă atmosfera din cazinou și înclină astfel balanţa în favoarea lor. Practic,
clientul este foarte important, atitudinea lui contează mai mult decât de-
sign-ul cazinoului. Cred că atitudinea clientului depinde totuși și de felul
în care te prezinţi la masa de joc, dar nu mizez pe faptul că i-am putea
determina să se schimbe. Totul vine de la sine.
Care a fost cea mai neplăcută experienţă din activitatea ta?
Cea mai urâtă experienţă pe care am avut-o a fost când un client s-a
enervat și a lovit cu scrumiera masa de joc, aceasta s-a spart și mi-a
sărit un ciob în deget. În schimb, am avut multe momente haioase. Era
un client străin care nu știa nici o altă limbă de circulaţie internaţională
și eu eram nevoită să-i explic jocul, în condiţiile în care nouă nu ne este
permis să scoatem cărţile și să-i explicăm clientului cum se joacă, ci
doar verbal. El nu știa absolut deloc engleză și am încercat să-i explic
numai prin semne, asta chiar a fost o experienţă foarte amuzantă.
Care a fost cea mai mare sumă pe care a câștigat-o un client?
Dar cea mai mare sumă pierdută?
Am văzut și clienti care au câștigat sute de mii euro, dar și clientii ca-
re au pierdut 100.000 de euro, în mai puţin de 20 de minute. De-a lun-
gul timpului am vazut atât câştiguri cât şi pierderi mai mari.
Ce ţi-ai dori să faci pe viitor?
Mi-aș dori să avansez în domeniul ăsta pentru că îmi place foarte
mult și sper să ajung pe o poziţie cât mai bună. Nu știu dacă aș vrea să
mă reprofilez, deoarece, deocamdată, îmi place mult ceea ce fac.
Care e jocul tău preferat în timpul liber?
Mie îmi place Blackjack-ul, e jocul ideal pentru mine pentru că nu e
multă agitaţie. Dar jocurile de noroc se rezumă la matematică și noroc.
Ce faci în timpul liber?
Între turele de lucru timpul meu liber este foarte redus. Dar în zilele
libere profit din plin de timpul pe care îl am și nu ratez nimic, mă duc la
film, în parc, ies cu prietenii. Încerc să mă detașez și să îmi încarc bateri-
ile. Atunci când merg la cumpăraturi știu deja cât costă produsele din
coș înainte să ajung la casă, si acest lucru a devenit ceva mecanic. Pe
noi, crupierii, chiar nu ne poate păcăli nimeni la bani! (râde)

What’s your opinion in the casino environment in Bucha-
rest?
On my opinion the casinos in Bucharest have reached quite a hi-
gh level, from the gaming point of view, as well as regarding the
services. Speaking of the clients I could say they are different
types, distinct nationalities, from all activity areas, and any social
level. Anyway, we must treat them the same, even if the client is a
parliamentarian, business man, sports man or has any other positi-
on, race, nationality, religion, they are all equal for us.
What’s the impact of your craft on the actual economical
context?
The casino market is not working very well now and many think
about leaving the country. Many casinos are closed now; those wi-
thout work left the country. They can earn good amounts there, ac-
cording to the conditions of the contract.
What are the different aspects between the Romanian and
the foreigners you have notices along the five years work?
The Romanians are difficult, irascible, more aggressive, on attitu-
de, but also verbally. I can say here, where I am working, such atti-
tude are not allowed, but there were times when the clients in the
casino would speak bad words to the dealer, but now, as I have no-
tices, things changes to the best.
What are the differences between the Romanian casinos
and the casinos abroad?
The casinos in Romania are prettier. Regarding the design, we
really have style and good taste. The casino I work for has modern
architecture. I could also say that the Romanian and the European
dealers are the best. Everywhere we go we are appreciated. Yes, I
can definitely say we are the best. Abroad, the clients change the
atmosphere in the casino and they take the balance to their side.
The client is the most important person, its attitude matters more
than the design of the casino. I think the client’s attitude also de-
pends on the way you introduce yourself to the table, but I don’t
count on changing their attitude, though. It all comes natural.
Tell us about your worst experience in your activity
The worst experience I has until now was when a client got angry
and hit the table with an ashtray, and a crock touched my finger.
But there were a lot of funny moments, too. There was this foreign
client who didn’t speak any language and I had to explain the ga-
me. We are normally not allowed to take the cards out and explain
the game. He didn’t speak English and I tried explaining the game
with signs. It was quite a funny situation…
What was the larger amount someone won? Or lost?
I have seen clients winning hundreds of thousands of Euros, but I
have also seen clients losing 100.000 Euros, in less than 20 minu-
tes. I have seen larger winnings and losses along these years.
What are your wishes for the future?
I would like to be promoted because I really love this environ-
ment and I hope to reach a better position. I don’t know if I want to
do something else, for the moment I want to stay here, I like what I
am doing.
What’s your favorite game on your spare time?
I like Blackjack, is the ideal game for me, it is not agitated. But
gambling is all about math and luck.
How do you spend your free time?
Between shifts I don’t have much time. But on my spare days, I
go to the movies, in the park, go out with my friends. I try to detach
and recharge my batteries, so to speak. When I go shopping, before
getting to the pay office I already know the costs. This is mechani-
cal. The croupiers cannot be faulted when itr comes to money. (she
laughs)

o serie de petreceri, premii, promoţii și surprize în perioada 10 - 17 oc-
tombrie.
Princess of the Palace, un concurs inedit de frumuseţe și eleganţă,
Royal Lottery, competiţia cu cel mai mare premiu din istoria cazinourilor
din România, tombolele Lucky Bet și 777 au condimentat evenimentul
organizat de Casino Palace. În prima zi din săptămâna norocoasă, cea de-
a zecea zi a lunii a zecea, Raluca Nicolae a fost desemnată Princess of
the Palace, devenind astfel imaginea cazinoului pentru următoarele 12
luni.
Doru Octavian Dumitru a însufleţit petrecerea, iar iluzionistul Johannes

October has been a joyful month for Casino Palace. The managers
of Casino Palace welcomed their clients with entertainment, awards,
promotions and surprises between October 10 and 17.
Princess of the Palace, an original beauty and elegance contest,
Royal Lottery, the competition with the biggest award in the history
of the casinos in Romania, 777 and Lucky Bet tombola seasoned the
event organized by Casino Palace. On the first day of the lucky week,
the 10 th day of the 10 th month of the year, Raluca Nicolae has be-

The culminating moment has been reached on October 15, when
Casino Palace celebrated 15 years in Romania. Over 550 guests en-
joyed Claudia Pavel’s show, but also catalin Biotezatu’s collection of
the catwalk. Royal Loterry extraction, when the 90.000 euros prize
was awarded, the biggest reward on the hostory of romanian

Pe 16 octombrie cinci jucători au câștigat premii în valoare totală de
35.000 de lei. Câștigătorul marelui premiu la tombola Lucky Bet este un
român pasionat de poker, care a vizitat cazinoul de aproape 2.000 de ori
de la prima sa vizită din 1998 și până în prezent.
Ultima zi din săptămâna norocoasă de la Casino Palace s-a încheiat cu
tombola 777, extragere la care patru jucători români au câștigat câte
777 de lei la extragerea de la ora 22.00, urmată de cea de la miezul nop-
ţii, în cadrul căreia alţi trei clienţi au câștigat câte 1.500 de lei.
Inaugurat în septembrie 1995, Casino Palace este unul dintre cei mai
mari jucători din industria locală a jocurilor de noroc. Operatorul a pus la
dispoziţia clienţilor săi, încă din august 2001 un sistem de fidelizare, în
urma căruia peste 2.500 de jucători au fost recompensaţi pentru loialita-
tea faţă de Casino Palace printr-o selecţie de 200 de produse și servicii
de înaltă calitate. Casino Palace București face parte din Queenco Leisu-
