Art Appreciation is simply the process of learning how to look at and understand

the visual arts. Art Appreciation concerns itself on how to objectively read the works
themselves. And planning, preparing, designing, creating a Miniature House is one of
the ways to appreciate arts & crafts.

First built in the 17th century in northern Europe, primarily in Germany, Holland, and
England, dollhouses (Miniature House) were designed for adults. The earliest known
example was that made for Albert V, Duke of Bavaria in 1557. Albert V was a
passionate collector of antiquities and art. The Munich Baby House and its successors
belonged to the world of the Wunderkammer, the “cabinet of curiosities”.

Dollhouses helps children learn about interior design and household

management. While playing with their dollhouses, children begin to discern architectural
styles and furnishings of varying designs and functions. These Miniature Houses might
look like toys, but they are also representation of craftsmanship especially to adults. I
my case, I created a Miniature House to present my artistic side and creative ideas
about interior designing and architectural styles. It is very difficult for me because it’s my
first time doing it and at the middle of creating a Miniature, I almost gave up because of
the lack of support and interest to do it because preparing, planning, designing, and
creating a Miniature House toke me a month and a half to finish it. But after seeing the
final output, I am very proud of it, and everyone was praising me because of the
uniqueness, creative designs, and the color combination. And this Miniature house is
the product of my creativity and imagination.

In conclusion, Art Appreciation is knowledge and understanding of the universal

and timeless qualities that identify all great art. This subject taught me to appreciate
more deeply the meaning of every art, to see the bigger picture of it. And as an
individual, I realized that the more you appreciate and understand the art of different
eras, movements, styles and techniques, the better you can develop, evaluate and
improve your own artwork. Yes, art is very popular and common in our society but
appreciating an art with stories, imagination and emotions are more memorable,
valuable and the most special.
