Make A Commitment

To be successful in any field, you must make a minimum five-year commitment

to that field. Whatever you are doing, you must be prepared to put your head
down and throw your whole heart into it for five solid years, if you are ever going
to achieve what is possible for you in that area.

It takes a long time for you to become proficient enough at selling your product to
succeed in a competitive market. A long time perspective on your career is
essential if you want to get to the top.
Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that you must begin thinking about selling
your specific product or service for your specific company for five solid years
before you make a change. Because of the rapid evolution of technology,
products and services, you may find yourself selling different things for different
organizations in a year or two. What long time perspective really means with
regard to your career is that you must commit yourself to devoting five years to
becoming the kind of person, both internally and externally, who is capable of
enjoying the good life in professional selling.
That long-term commitment, all by itself, will completely transform your attitude
toward your learning, your practice, your customers, yourself, your community
and everything else you do. All superior men and women in our society have a
long time perspective with regard to themselves and their lives.

Now, here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.
First, get serious! Make a decision today to go all the way to the top. Commit
yourself 100 percent to sales success, and never give up until you get there.
Second, commit yourself to being the very best you can be. Your only limits are
the limits you place on your own mind.
