Lesson Title: Grade Level: Duration: 1 Day

Transformation Geometry Date: Thursday

G-CO Experiment with transformations in the plane

Common Core, G-CO.3 Given a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon, describe the
NGSS, and/or
rotations and reflections that carry it onto itself
Content
Standards G-CO.4 Develop definitions of rotations, reflections, and translations in terms of angles,
circles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and line segments.

Materials/ Create visuals of new shapes presented in the lesson (rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid,
Resources/ and other regular polygons)
Lesson
Preparation Paper and drawing utensils

Objectives Students will be be able to apply transformations to rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or

regular polygon and identify the different types of transformations.

Students will be able to identify unique identities to each transformation.

Pre-teaching Will take into consideration the different abilities of the students and will use guided
Considerations practice to have students follow with the previously learned vocabulary.

There will be students who have been absent and missed the vocabulary, there will be
review in the beginning of the class in order the lesson the gap between the students.

Assessments: Formative:

The application of the transformations upon new shapes in the category of irregular

shapes.

Summative:
Summative
The poster test knowledge and labeling the depth of understanding, students will have to
prove concepts of the vocabulary learned in the past weeks including regular and irregular
shapes along with the different types of transformations

Lesson Delivery

Instructional Check method(s) used in the lesson:

Methods
☐Modeling ☐Guided Practice ☐Collaboration ☐ Independent Practice
☐Guided Inquiry ☐ Reflection
Lesson Opening Prior Knowledge, Context, and Motivation:

Students will know the transformations from previous lesson

- Translation, rotation, reflection, and dialation
Students will know how to apply said transformations to regular shapes

Step-by-step 1. Introduction: UDL Guidelines:

b. There will be sample
transformations on the board and UDL Multiple Means of…

students must identify which

will include the transformation was applied and
following: explain why they say it is. eg. if Language & Symbols – promote understanding

Activities/ c. Introduce the regular shapes Comprehension – highlight patterns, relationships,

Tasks/

give an example of each using a
different shape.
b. If done early they will pick an Differentiated Instruction/ Accommodations
irregular shape and attempt to do
the same with it. Students may
choose to do something they love:
cellphone, shoes, purse, etc English Learners:
Vocabulary will be review and when initially
introduced have a translation for the to
understand.
Special Needs:
Will be able to work with a partner to ask
questions and if physical aid is required they can
have their partner draw while they come up with
the shapes and help in describing how the
transformation would be appied to the shape
Accelerated Learners:
To those who are done early have a challenge of
irregular shapes since they are much more of a
difficult transformation to deal with.

Lesson Reflection

Teacher
Reflection on
Lesson Planning Lesson should be mostly review for students and more hands on to how to manipulate the
objects given. I believe a challenge will be keeping students on task or enthusiastic about the
material since the shapes are pretty simple but the last activity will allow for uniqueness to
show their understanding in form of self expression.
What challenges
do you
anticipate? What
will be most
enjoyable for
students?
