These people are facing changes in their life. Read their situations below:
I don’t really feel comfortable with this new idea of telecommuting. I wish I
could come to the office every day I have done for the past 5 years.
My name is Amanda. I am a hairdresser. I work in a beauty shop in the north of
the city. I am a single mother and have two beautiful sons. Mike is nine and
Steve is two. While I work, my mother takes care of my sons. She has always
supported me. But now my mom is really sick. The doctor recommended her
moving to a quieter place. So, she is moving in with my brother who lives in a
small town. If my mother moves, I will probably have to quit my job as I don’t
have anybody to take care of my kids. I wouldn’t leave them with a stranger,
especially the little one.

Dear Gary,
My name is Eliana. I am a member of the SENA community. I read your story and I want to give you
some advice about your situation.
In my personal opinion, I think that implementing a 'home office' system is a good idea. If you
analyze the benefits of the situation, perhaps you could understand the benefits and adapt to this
new experience. Two days a week could help you alternate your work routine; it is likely that on
those days you will make changes to your schedule and save time and money that you previously
invested in moving from home to office. Working from home could be very enjoyable, it would
make your day calmer and stress free. There is no reason to fear.
As for the concerns you have, I suggest you take things easy and go with the flow, you can find a
solution for each of them. You could also do the following, if you miss socializing with your
colleagues, you could call them during your break time, or agree to a departure at the end of your
work. If you can’t find a file and need help from a partner, you could call one of your partners and
ask for help over the phone, they wouldn’t let you high and dry. If you need to speak to your boss
and he is not available at the time, you could leave him a message so he can contact you when he
can.
In conclusion, I think you can easily adapt to this change ... If you go the extra mile, you can be
comfortable with it.
Sincerely,
Eliana Vargas
