Instructions
Failure to hook up the drain port will result in the valve locking open and
not reducing pressure.
5. Locate the place where the reducing valve will be installed. This is the end of the cylinder
without a rod coming out of it.
6. Identify the input and output ports of the reducing valve. Pressure will be reduced on the output
side.
7. Disconnect the end of the fluid line from the cylinder port.
8. Connect the end of the same fluid line to the input port of the reducing valve.
9. Connect your pressure gauge directly to the output port of the reducing valve.
10. Twist the knob on the reducing valve counterclockwise until it stops.
11. Turn on the pump.
12. Shift the directional control valve to send oil through the reducing valve. Hold it shifted.
13. Screw in the knob (clockwise) until the pressure gauge reads the pressure that you want the
reducing valve to be set for.
14. Center (release) the directional control valve.
15. Turn off the pump.
16. Disconnect the pressure gauge and fluid line from the reducing valve.
17. Connect a tee to the output and input ports of the reducing valve.
18. Reconnect the fluid line from the DCV (Directional control valve) to the input port of the
reducing valve (now with a tee on it).
19. Insert a new fluid line between the output of the reducing valve and the cylinder. Connect each
end to its respective port.
20. Use the extra ports provided by the tees to hook up a check valve in parallel to the reducing
valve.
a. Connect a fluid line from the input of the reducing valve to the output of the check
valve.
b. Connect a fluid line from the output of the reducing valve to the input of the check
valve.
Cylinder will not retract if the check valve is not installed correctly.
21. Turn the pump on.
