Pascal’s Law 1653 Blaise Pascal (1623 – 1662)

Relationship between force, pressure, and area

Pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is
transmitted undiminished to every portion of
the fluid and walls of the containing vessel.

F =Force
P = Pressure
A = Area
A= π·r 2
Pascal’s Law
Pascal's law states that when there is an increase
in pressure at any point in a confined fluid, there
is an equal increase at every other point in the
container.
(OR) Pressure applied to a confined
fluid is transmitted undiminished in all
directions
How much force is exerted on
every square inch of the container

of force is applied to the one inch
stopper?
10 lb

Facts of Human body

Scientists estimate the volume of blood in a human

body to be approximately 7 percent of body weight.
An average adult body with a weight of 150 to 180
pounds will contain approximately 4.7 to 5.5 liters
(1.2 to 1.5 gallons) of blood.
The average adult at rest inhales and exhales 7 or 8
liters (about one-fourth of a cubic foot) of air per
minute. That totals something like 11,000 liters of
air (388 cubic feet) in a day.

The air that is inhaled is about 20-percent oxygen,

and the air that is exhaled is about 15-percent
oxygen, so about 5-percent of the volume of air is
consumed in each breath and converted to carbon
dioxide. Therefore, a human being uses about 550
liters of pure oxygen (19 cubic feet) per day.
