NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 10101-1:1993 ‘Natural gas — Determination
of water by the Karl Fischer method — Part 1 : Introduction’ issued by the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the
Petroleum, Lubricants and Their Related Products Sectional Committee and approval of the
Petroleum,Coal and Related Products Division Council.
The text of ISO Standard has been approv.ed as s-uitable for publication as-an Indian Standard without
deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention
is particularly d~awn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should
be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current
practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
The technical committee responsible for the preparation of this standard has reviewed the provisions
of the following International Standards and has decided that they are acceptable for use in conjunction
with this standard:
ISO 6712:1982 Gas analysis — Sampling and transfer equipment for gases supplying
an analytical unit
Iso 10101-2:1993 Natural gas — Determination of water by the Karl Fischer method’-
Part 2: Titration procedure
LSo 10101-3:1993 Natural gas — Determination of water by the Karl Fischer method -
Part 3: Coulometric procedure
In reporting the results of a test or analysis made ir, accordance with this standard, if the final value,
observed or calculated, is to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with IS 2:1960 ‘Rules for
rounding off numerical values (revised)’.

NATURAL GAS — DETERMINATION OF WATER

PART 1 INTRODUCTION
WARNING — Local-safety regulations must be taken into account, when the equipment is located
in hazardous areas. Due to the toxicity and odour of pyridine, the user should ensure that there is
adequate ventilation.
