PROVA 01

Parte 1

1) What the pilot need to do after the flight?

After the flight the pilot must write in the logbook and perform the abandonment
of the aircraft. If the flight is an instructional flight, it’s necessary to perform the
flight debriefing, where the instructor and the student talk about the flight that
was performed.

2) How you think the aviation instructions will be in few years from now?
In the future I see the most advanced instruction, with more modern aircraft and
cockpits being more advanced. I think there will be new and improved systems
to help students and, consequently, make flight safer. I also believe there will be
new technologies for navigation and weather radars.

3) Can you describe the first aircraft you flown?

The first aircraft I flew was the Ne56c in Brazil nickname “Paulistinha”, it’s an
aircraft to train new pilots, it’s a high wing aircraft and single piston engine
aircraft, it has two seat, one in front for the student and other behind for the
instructor. It’s a very good aircraft because it is very easy to fly and has few
instruments in the cockpit.

Parte 2

1- Control asked you if you resquested medical assistance and requested you
to descent to FL 240.
You answer you need nav assistance nav sys malfunction and descent FL250
Control confirm your level 240

2- Level 080 requesting HDG 250 to avoid bad weather.

Control say maintain present altitude fly HDG 240 for separation.
What can happen inside a cb?

3- Hydraulic system failure resquested the longest rwy for landing with the flaps

Parte 4

Statement: Runway and taxiway layers confusion is the main causa to runway
incursion.
PROVA 02
Parte 1

1) - How can weather conditions affect piloting?

Meteorology is important for flight because it affects flight safety, flight time and
fuel consumption. The pilot should avoid jet streams, CB'S, turbulence, wind
shear and strong crosswinds, which makes it very hard to control the aircraft
during landing.

2) - What has changed in the last 10 years in Brazil?

I think that in the last 10 years I think that the plane in brazil had an increase
and the creation of new airlines, for example the Azul that today is one of the
largest in Brazil. New types of GPS navigation are also being used to increase
the safety and speed of operations.

Parte 2
1) Problem in nose wheel steering, request assistance to vacate the runway
after landing.

Parte 4

What happened next?

What is the risk to passengers?

How to avoid this situation?

Statement: “You agree that the pilot and the airline were responsible in case of
an accident during this type of operation”.
Prova 3
Parte 1

Difference between v1 and v2?

The V1 is the maximum speed for the pilot’s decision to take off or abort the
take off. After V1 if the pilot aborts the takeoff the aircraft may suffer structural
damage and the V2 is the speed that the aircraft mantain after take and
reaches at 35ft above the runway.

What could be added in the cockpit?

I believe we will can add more flight information on the cockpit screens and
more automation. So we will could remove the knob and use touch screens
displays and will be more intuitive for the pilots.

How was your first flight?

My first flight was over Eldorado’s Flying Club in Rio Grande do Sul, and it was
very good also I remember until today. It was in the aircraft Ne56c in Brazil
nickname “Paulistinha”, it’s an aircraft to train new pilots, it’s a high wing aircraft
and single piston engine, it has two seats, one in front for the student and other
behind for the instructor. It’s a very good aircraft because it’s very easy to fly
and has a few instruments in the cockpit.

Parte 3

1) - Pilot: PanPan, PanPan, PanPan, Shannon Control, N404IC, we just passed

through a thunderstorm and encountered severe turbulence. We have
passengers injured on board. Request return to Dublin and also request an
area to dump fuel. Do we need to follow any special instructions
ATC: No special operation is required, maintain present heading to land on
runway 26.
From your point of view, why is it important for the pilots do the Fuel
Jettison or Dump Fuel?
In my opinion it's important for pilots to be able to dump fuel to reduce the
weight of the aircraft to make it possible to return or divert to an airport and land
the aircraft without the possibility of structural damage upon landing. This is
something important for wide body aircraft as the take off weight is usually
much higher than the maximum landing weight.

2) - PILOT: Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, Miami Center, United 406, we had a

Sudden Decompression, our left main door came loose, we are on emergency
descent.
ATC: Roger United 406, Squawk 7700, Cleared to descend to 9000, report
when passing 17000, altimeter setting 3009.

What are the dangers of a Sudden Decompression?

From my point of view there are many dangers of a sudden decompression
as the pilots can loose consciousness leading to loss of control of the aircraft
causing a disaster.

3) - ATC: Alitalia 372, Galeão Ground. Do you need ground assistance to

evacuate the aircraft?
One of our flight attendants inflated the escape slide accidentally, we already
made the announcement to the passengers, and we will proceed to disembark
with our ground crew, Alitalia 372.

Tell me about the training cabin crew have to deal with emergency
situations.
I believe that cabin crew have a lot of training to be prepared to deal with
emergency situations, they have training in mock ups periodically and various
courses to know how to prevent and deal with emergencies.

Parte 4
This image shows an Airbus covered in volcanic ash. It is a twin-engine aircraft,
it is white and the tail is green. It was in the patio area when this picture was
taken. On the left side I can see a person I think is a macanic, possibly repairing
something in the engine. Behind the plane I see that there was a lot of volcanic
ash in the air. In front of the aircraft, I see a vehicle, hazard cones and some
removable stairs. Talking about what was happening here I believe that this
aircraft was already on the ground when a volcano erupted in the surrounding
area leading to what we can see here. The aircraft was certainly grounded, as
this situation can cause serious damage to the engines, causing them to stop,
consequently causing a disaster.

What equipment do pilots have on board to avoid volcanic ash?

Currently there is no specific equipment to avoid volcanic ash so the pilots must
communicate and always check the weather forecast before a flight.

What do you think happened before this picture was taken?

From My Point Of View, the aircraft was in the airport when there was a
volcanic eruption in the surrounding area consequently the airspace was closed
so all flights was grounded until the conditions improved.

What can volcanic ash cause to aircraft engines?

Volcanic ash is one of the most dangerous situations pilots can face as it can
seriously damage the engines and cause them to shut down.

What do you think will happen next?

I imagine when the ash clears away the maintenance department need to verify
any possible damage, after that the aircraft should return to normal operations.

Statement: Do you agree or disagree that volcanic ash can affect the visibility
when flying at night?
I certainly agree if we face volcanic ash at night the visibility is reduced. When
flying at night the visibility is not as clear compared to flying during that day so
without a doubt at night its much more dangerous to face volcanic ash.
Prova 4
Parte 1

How do you prepare for an early flight morning?

First I get up at half past seven seve then I drink a coffee, after that I check at
the weather conditions on my smartphone and walk to hangar 1 and I help my
friends to put the aircraft in the positions, so I wait my student to perform the
walk around inspection in the aircraft then I start the briefing with the student,
and finally I enter on the plane and go on the flight.

Tell me abaut your career in aviatio.

I started my aviation career in 2013, it was my dream as a child to be able to fly
planes that flew over my house. My first flight was over Eldorado’s Flying Club
in Rio Grande do Sul, and it was very good and I remember until today. It was in
the aircraft Ne56c in Brazil nickname “Paulistinha”.

What is your experience as a pilot?

My expirence as a pilot is very good from my point of view, i have about 1.300h
of flight also I have flown many aircrafts. In my private pilot course I flew two
aircraft’s, paulistinha and Embraer Tupi, these two are single engine aircrafts. In
my commercial pilot course I flew other aircrafts, for exemple: Paulistinha, Aero
Boero Cherokee and Tupi these are single engine aircrafts. After that I flew
piper Arrow this is a complex single engine aircraft than I flew Seneca I and
Seneca III these are complex twin engine aircrafts.

What can airline companies do to promote safe flights?

Many things are done to promote flight safety within airline companies. Some
examples are first of all regular flight simulator training to keep the pilots updated
with the procedures such as emergency situations. Also flight attendants are
constantly trained to be prepared to deal with an emergency
situation. Maintenance is other aspect important to a high standard to promote
flight safely and finally regular courses such as LOFT training to always try to
maintain good CRM on all flights.

4 - Could the crew help firefighters fight the fire?

Statement: “If the pilots and the crew are well train to the situation like
this”
PROVA 5
PART 1

What is the most dangerous part of the flight?

From my view the most dangerous part of the flight is during the approach to
landing, because the aircraft is at low speed and near to the ground, the aircraft
can also suffer the influence of bad weather, such as wind shear, where the
pilot should start a go-around to avoid an accident.

How can companies control pilot fatigue?

I belive that the companies can create a specific sector with the objective of
controlling the scale of the pilots, to reduce fatigue of the pilots and to increase
the security of the flights. At my job I have two days off for week and I work 7
hours a day.

What was the best instructor you flew?

The best instructor that I flew was Tasso, it was during my comercial pilotot
course, Tasso let me do the first solo flight on the Aero Boero, this is a single
engine aircraft and high wing aircraft. I had 2 hours of flying on that aircraft
before the flight. After that o flew with him in Seneca 1 and Seneca 3 these are
complex twin engine aircraft. Nowdays Tasso is my boss at Eldorado’s Flying
Club.

What would you do to abort a takeoff?

I believe that a runway incursion and any unsafe indication on the aircraft during
takeoff as this affects the safety of the operation and in this way increases the
safety of the operation and reduces the possibility of accident or incidente.

PART 2

PROVA 6
Part 1

How do you imagine Brazilian aviation in the future?

I think in the future the aviation in Brazil will be increase, I hope that new airlines
will be opened and so get a new pilots. Also new technologies in the cockpit to
increase safety, for example: new navigation systems, new weather radars and
new systems of entertainment in the passengers cabin.

In your opinion, what is the importance of the simulator in emergency

training?
From my point of view, I believe that emergency simulator training is very
important to increase pilot skills and consequently quick action. In the flight
simulator the pilot can train all types of emergencies, such as: Fire on board,
decompression, engine failure and many other things.

What was the best advice an instructor gave you?

It was a lot of advice that my instructors gave me during my training as a pilot,
but I think the main thing was always to keep calm and principally to have
confidence on myself.

Type of airplane that you like to fly and your goals in aviation.
The plane I like to fly is the Seneca 3, these is a complex twin engine aircraft
also I have abaut 50 hours flying in these aircraft, the sound of the engines is
amazing. And my goals in the airplane is to fly for an airline and to be a captain
one day if possible by flying Boeing or Airbus.

How was your emergency training?

My emergency training was over Eldorado’s Flying Club in Rio Grande do Sul. I
often trained engine failure in low and high altitude, also I trained instrument
failure and loss of control in flight. In my point of view it is very important that the
pilot has a quick reaction when an emergency occurs

Part 2

1) - Cotejava uma instrução de chegada para um aeroporto. E então

examinador falou que havia um Uncunpained minor having epileptic seasure on
board.

Nose wheel steering, we need request a tug
to vacete the runway.

voar na radial 355 até 80nm do VOR, after fly direct VOR ATF.
Do you think that GPS navigation it's reliabre?

Controle coteja e falando

a GS dele e dando prioridade pagando vetoração.
O que pode ocorer nesse caso?

Part 4

In this Picture I can see the Airbus A380 also known as the super jumbo jet.
This is a wide body aircraft that can carry up to 853 passengers. The fuselage
of the aircraft is white and I can also see the UAE (United Arabe Emirates) flag
printed on the tail. This aircraft is operated by one of the world’s biggest
international airlines, Emirates. There are two airstairs to board or exit the
aircraft. I am able to see some people around the aircraft and people who
seem to be airport workers besides that I can see a man using a florescent vest.
By the weather condition and the sand in the background I would say this
aircraft is in an Arabian airport. In addition, this aircraft is fly-by- wire, a system
in which the pilots in reality control the computer which then controls the plane.
This aircraft is packed with cutting edge technology. This aircraft is bigger and
heavier than all others therefore it has more inertia but in terms of
maneuverability it is very agile. As a matter of fact, this is the most advanced
aircraft in terms of technology.

What was happening before this picture was taken?

Before the picture was taken the cabin was probably being prepared to embark
the passengers and the pilots were preparing the cockpit for the next flight. For
this specific aircraft there is an application that calculates the performance of
the aircraft for each flight.
What you will happen next?
Well, next the doors will be sealed and the pilots will request a pushback tractor
and start the engines. After that, the captain and first officer will start the take-off
procedures that must include these elements: Take-off weight, Flap setting, and
procedures for recovery in the event of an emergency. All of that is done in
accordance with the SOPs established by the company.

How do you think the Airbus A380 can interfere with airport operations?
Being one of the biggest aircraft in the world it can affect the airport operations
firstly due to its size it can create wake turbulence consequently causing delays
for other aircraft to take off, besides that taxiways have to be adequate to avoid
ground collisions that can interfere with the airport operations.

What impact do large aircraft cause to the environment?

All aircraft cause an impact to environment however I imagine that large aircraft
cause a greater impact as they fly longer consequently burn more fuel, for me
this is the only impact caused by large aircraft that is greater than the impact
caused by smaller aircraft.

What do you think the people in the photo are doing?

I think people are looking at the aircraft and probably doing business since I see
some sheiks in the Picture.

What changes does an airport need to receive aircraft like the a380?
To receive this type of aircraft the airport has to have a very good infrastructure,
in Brazil for example only two airports can receive the a380, so it is necessary a
lot of investment to be able to receive these planes.

Statement. " Although Airlines do not have control over sudden changes in
weather conditions that may cause long flight delays and cancellations, the
airline companies should still provide food and shelter for passengers"
I totally agree with this statement as I think the airline companies should look
after the passengers from the moment of check in from the departure airport all
the way to the end of the flight at the arrival airport. Therefore, providing food
and shelter in case of delays and cancellations is a must, in my opinion.

Statement: Do you think that narrow body aircraft will take over the market of
wide body aircraft in the future?
There's no doubt in my mind that narrow body aircraft will take over the market
of wide body aircraft in the future. I believe this will happen because as
technology advances manufacturers are developing narrow body aircraft that are
more fuel efficient consequently being able to fly longer without stopping to refuel.
This is something I imagine will interest airline companies as it could possible be
more cost efficient.

Statement: In the next few years, companies are looking to buy more wide
body aircraft than narrow body aircraft.
PROVA 7
Part 1

What’s your opinion about duties and responsibilities of the pilots?

From my point of view I belive that the pilot must have responsibility with the
schedules and especially with the safety of the flight, as the responsibility of the
pilot. Also the pilot is responsible for the aircraft maintenance check and pre-
flight inspection. Also the captain is responsible for any accident or incident that
may occur during all the flight

What do you think about the cockpits in 20 years from now?

In 20 years I see cockpits being more advanced. I think there will be new and
improved systems to assist pilots and consequently make flying safer. I also
believe there will be new technologies for navigation and weather radars.

How was your first solo flight?

My first solo flight was over Eldorado’s Flying Club in Rio Grande do Sul. The
weather was phenomenal on that day and the winds were calm. My first solo
flight lasted around fifteen minutes. The aircraft was a NE56-C, nicknamed
“Paulistinha” in Brazil. The feeling of making the first solo flight was very good,
the landing was smooth as butter. After the landing my friends gave me the
congratulations.

Part 2

Part 3
Part 4

In this Picture I can see an aircraft that had suffered a landing gear colapse
leading to veer-off runway. This aircraft seems to be an Airbus A300 used for
cargo flight. It’s a twin engine aircraft alto this aircraft is half White and walf blue
with a Picture of an Bird in the tail. In the background i can observe same
houses may by it’s a city also a wooded área. On the left i can see a fira truck
also some people I think thay are start the inestigation. On the right I can
observe three sedex’s truck and some people. In the foreground i can observe
the runway, taxiway also runway sign, finelly soft ground. Fromm y point of view
this situation probably was caused due to a landing gear malfuction.

Pergunta foi sobre rwy overrun.

PROVA 8
Part 1

Tell me what are the pilot's responsibilities while in cruise flight?

Pilots are responsible for the entire flight. During the cruise phase, the pilot
must follow the flight plan and prepare the flight deck for arrival at the
destination airport. The pilot should also check the weather conditions and
inform to the passengers abaut the flight also keep contact with the control.

Tell me about the importance of CRM?

CRM is very importante to maintain the operational safety during the flight. It’s
used in more complex aircraft that uses two pilots, because the work load is
vary high. So the captain and the co-pilot must divide the work in order to
increase the safety of the operation. I try to use CRM with my students during
the flight.

Tell me about Bird strike and how bad it can be.

Bird strike is very dangerous for aviation, because it can affect the safety of the
flight, for example: causing the windshield to crack or punctured, injuring the
pilot. Also it is possible to happen a bird insgestion, causing an engine to fail
during flight.

Part 2

1) - 2 audios of taxi clearances: rwy assigned, taxiways and just one rwy to
cross. Super easy. Example: ORD (Chicago O’Hare) ground, taxy 28C via ...
hold short of 28R, monitor tower on .... At taxiway G you see a metal debri.
Inform you are holding position and request this debri to be removed.

2) - Frankfurt TWR informs that you’re airborne at..., restricted FL070, contact
departure on ... if negative contact, on frequency ...

3) - Pilot is being vectored and told to expect an ILS approach due to

deteriorating weather. Field is now good for a visual (situation has changed)
and ATC informs you about the visual approach and asks pilot to report the field
insight. Pilot is unfamiliar with the area and requests the ILS instead of a visual.
ATC understand you have a technical problem when you were actually
unfamiliar with the airport area and were just asking for an ILS approach.

4) - SFO GND. Taxing to rwy, pilot observes a small traffic flying next to the
airplane. Report to the ground about this situation. It’s a drone flying near your
aircraft. Ground will ask you to confirm about the possible drone and informs
that the airport security is on its way.

5) - Smoke in the cabin. Declare an emergency. (There is also a picture) ATC

states your transmission was broken and tells you to maintain FL350 and tries
to guess what you have told him. You comply with the FL350 and repeat your
emergency condition.

There was one audio about the ATC reporting a traffic at “x” o’clock, 20nm,
same direction. I just don’t remember exactly which situation was that.

Part 3
1) - Tower cleared the pilot to land on rwy 33, wind 340/15, WS reported on
final. Pilot declared urgency (PAN PAN PAN) due to almost hitting a traffic (a
Cessna) at his 2 o’clock position.
2) - Emirate 247 had a left engine flame out, declared an emergency, asking to
descend immediately. Controller approved FL190 at pilot’s discretion and also
requested the pilot to inform the fuel remaining and passengers onboard.
Asked me why an engine flame out is bad for the flight.
3) - Galeão ground was telling the IBERIA pilot that there was a dog running,
and it was at taxiway G. Ground asked the pilot to reach its owner, who was
onboard, so he could call back his pet. Pilot says: It’s been 30 minutes and will
make an announcement to the passaenger.
(Honestly, I didn’t get this transmission very well)
Part 4

A picture with it’s nose in the grass due to a rwy excursion (possibily).

Asked me why a rwy excursion can be bad for airport operations.

Asked me how the pilots can avoid a rwy excursion under a bad weather
condition.

Statement: If the pilot and airport are prepared the problem is minor.

Statement: O piloto pode evitat Rwy excursion using go around?

PROVA 9
Part 1

What would be a good briefing?

A good briefing is when the pilot or flight instructor and student speaks about all
the flight, such as weather conditions, aircraft inspection, check flight planning
also possible maneuvers and procedures to be performed on the flight.

What is the best airport you have been to?

Let me think about it… the best airport I have been is in Florianopolis, the view
from up there is amazing, there are some awesome beaches around the island,
there is the Hercilio Luz bridge, in the airport there are two runways, one for IFR
flight and one for VFR flight.

How do you think the cockpits will be in the future?

In the future I see cockpits being more advanced. I think there will be new and
improved systems to assist pilots and consequently make flying safer. I also
believe there will be new technologies for navigation and weather radars.

What was the most complicated situation you have ever had flying?
As a flight instructor at Eldorado’s flying club the most complicated situation that
I had flying was on one flight last year, a student of mine and I were flying from
Eldorado's Flying Club to Santa Maria Airport. Then, all of a sudden, we lost
power. Fortunately, we could manage to restart the engine and return to
Eldorado’s flying club safely.

Parte 2
1) - Manaus: Problem with air conditioner - controller understood
pressurasation problem and request return after take off instructions.

2) - Manchester: Clear to descend to minimum clean speed, expected

10’holding

3) - Toronto: Problem with high oil temp – controller understood low oil pressure

4) - Santiago: Hot air ballon – requested deviation 030 degrees to the left,
ballon 1 o’clock. ATC: Understood 3 o’clock.
5) - Malpensa: Taxi clearance - clear taxo to hold point, give way to 747 Delta
coming from the left, turn to left taxiway GW then to the right D.

Nose gear is Stuck Bogged Down

Part 3
Lost radar contact, visual app, resume your navigation to the airport

Pan Pan Pan – Eng malfuction request return, unable to dump fuel and over
weiting landing.

Pan Pan Pan – Lost total electrical, they had only 30’of battery power.

Part 4

Statement: If the pilot and iport are prepared the propared the problem is
minor.

Statement: A belly landing situation would be an emergency.

Prova 10

What do pilots have to do after the flight?

After a flight pilots have to report any potential problems in the maintenance log
book if no problems came up on the flight the pilots are then able to go to the
hotel or return home, it is extremely important to get adequate rest to prevent
fatigue and always be prepared for the following flight.

What do you think about specific regulations for drone flights?

I strongly believe that specific regulations are important for drone flights. Drones
can be extremely dangerous to aviation if they are flown in airport areas leading
to damage to the aircraft, flights delays and even a disaster. For this reason
aviation authorities must have specific regulations in place.

What can airline companies do to promote safe flights?

Many things are done to promote flight safety within airline companies. Some
examples are first of all regular flight simulator training to keep the pilots updated
with the procedures for potencial emergency situations besides that flight
attendants are also constantly trained to be well prepared to deal with an
emergency situation. Maintenance is another key aspect as it must be to a high
standard to promote flight safely and finally regular courses such as
LOFT training to always try to maintain good CRM on all flights.

What is your opinion about periodic health exams?

In my opinion health exams are very important for the safety of the flights,
because during the flight the crew member can become incapacitated, thus
endangering the safety of the flight and causing an emergency. Therefore it is
necessary that the crew member performs periodic health exams.

In this Picture I can see inside a flight simulator. This simulator like all others, is
outfitted with an instructor operating station. From this station, instructors can
instantly create a variety of events such as engine failures, engine fires,
hydraulic failures, severe weather conditions and so on. There are two pilots in
this cockpit replication setup. The captain is seated on the left and the first
officer is seated on the right hand side. I can see green lights and functional
switches on the overhead panel. I can also see the instructor pointing his
fingers towards the computer screen. He is probably inserting a malfunction for
the pilots to practice. Looking through the widescreen visual technology system
I can see the aircraft is on the ground which leads me to conclude that the pilots
are about to practice a takeoff procedure. Flight simulators are crucial when it
comes to initial and recurrent training for pilots.

Why is it important for pilots to have regular simulator sessions?

Simply because there are emergency situations that you can practice in a
simulator that you cannot practice in a real aircraft. I can also say that a
simulator is designed to replicate not only a cockpit of an airplane but also the
view outside the windows for every imaginable flight scenario.

Why is it important for simulators to be very realistic?

Indeed, when it comes to simulators, it is very important that they have a high
level of realism and this is done by applying state of the arte technology to the
interfaces which enables the simulators to deliver a realistic sensation of
motion.

What are the advantages of a flight simulator?

A simulator is designed to replicate not only a cockpit of an airplane but also the
view outside the windows for every imaginable flight scenario. And this is a
huge advantage in terms of saving money, for instance. In this way pilots can
practice and maintain their licenses without the need to burn costly fuel in a real
flight.
