ABSTRACT

In the past 10 years there has been growing awareness among occupational health professionals worldwide to the large burden
of illness associated with musculoskeletal disorders of the body. It has been suggested that these disorders are associated with
highly repetitive work and are due atleast in part, to ergonomic factors. Ergonomics is much broader than preventing work related
musculoskeletal disorders. The successful application of ergonomics assures high productivity and increased satisfaction among
workers. This presentation is about work place ergonomic design goals, consequences of poor design, various ergonomic factors
and its effects and various modifications to improve neck posture and provide clearer vision, to promote mobility and patient
access, to promote patient comfort, to avoid static postures and to maintain neutral posture to reduce force requirements and to
provide sufficient recovery time for staff to avoid chronic muscular fatigue.
