INTRODUCTION :-
The compressive strength is one of important properites of
cement strength tests are not made on neat cement paste of
difficulties in obtaining good specimens and in testing with a
consequent large variability of test results ,cement – sand
mortar and in some cases ,concrete of determining the strength
of cement .

OBJECTIVE:-
Is to determine the strength and the durability of the cement
and also to determine the external effects.

MATERIALS:-
1. Ordinary Portland cement sample.
2. Sand , standard sand passing sieve (no.20) and retained
on sieve (no,30).
3. Drinking water.

APPARATUS:-
1. The mould for making specimens for compression test of
(0.5*0.5*0.5) in dimension .
2. Balance with capacity Balance with capacity at least 1000 gm.
3. Sieve(NO. 20 & 20 ).
4. Water container .
5. Mixing container .
6. Spatula .
7. Compression testing machine (we do not have vibrating machine ).

PROCEDUER:-
1. The mix proportion ( cement : sand ) should be 1:3 .
2. The amount of water should be 10% of total amount of dry
material.
3. Mixing the ingredient dry material with water for about 4-5
minutes .
4. Prepare the mould & fixing the screw, then oil the internal
faces of the mould by a thin layer .
5. Fill the mould with 2-3 layer and compact each layer with 25
blows with a tamping rode.
6. Open the mould (demoulding ) and put the specimensin a
storage tank (curing ) at a standard temperature room (20-25
℃ ).

7. Keep the specimens for (3-28)days in a curing condition ,then

take out the samples and put under the compression testing
machine.
DATA:-
Cement 100gr
Water 48.5gr
Sand 275gr
Area 0.25m2
Compressive strength of cement
Load
CALCULATION:-
Record the total maximum load indicated by the testing
machine , and calculate the compressive strength as follows:
P
Compressive strength = A
P= total maximum load in (N)
2
A= area of loaded surface in (mm )

PRECAUTION:-
 The mould should be oil before use .
 The weighing should be done accurately .
 The temperature and humidity must be accurately
controlled.
 increase the load gradually during testing .
 the cubes should be tested immediately after taking out of
water and not allowed to dry until they fail under testing.
 The gauging time should be strictly observed .
 The cubes should be tested on their sides and not their
faces.
