Case Discussion

The Entrepreneur case presents background information on your retail-clothing store and some
of the issues you will be facing. Below are a few guide questions to consider as you read the case.
Respond to the questions in writing, and be prepared to discuss them.

1. What is the current location of the store? What options do you have for relocating?

2. Where is the cash for the acquisition of the store coming from? What will you have to pay
for before opening? How much will you have left?

3. Fixed costs, or overhead, are expenses that are the same no matter how much product
you sell. Identify the fixed costs for your store, estimate the quarterly amount for each,
and calculate the monthly total.

4. If the average margin on an article of clothing is $10, how many units will you have to sell
to cover the fixed costs you calculated? Based on the case, how many do you expect to
sell?

5. Sales may be slower than expected when you start out. What can you do to stimulated
demand?

6. How many part-time employees would you need to hire if you are open 10 hours a day
every day of the week, and want two part-timers working at all times?

7. Picture yourself shopping in a small retail clothing store. What do you see that keeps you
in the store? What might prevent you from buying anything?
