What is Professional Ethics?

In general, Professional ethics are the principles that administer the behavior of a person
in certain business or environment. They give us a set of rules which help us to act in
various situations with other people. These ethics can be defined as the rules which a
group of people with same profession follow. There are some ethics which can be applied
on all professions. Such as,

# Respect for others # Honesty

# Loyalty # Trustworthiness

Use of Professional Ethics in Dentistry

Ethics are the establishment on which profession of the dentistry depends and due to the
integrity of this profession certain rights are provided to us like professionals.

Dental students are entrusted with privileges when giving consideration to the patients and
appropriate stewardship is important to keeping up these rights.

Responsibility of a dental student in practical classes :-

 It is the duty of student to organize treatments that manage the idea of dental
wellbeing for every patient, concerning the factors, for example, patient’s age and
wellbeing or basic life systems.
 The essential concern is life, health and prosperity of a patient. It is duty of student
to give patients, highest quality of care in ideal way, recognizing the limitations
introduced by patients.
 A patient has right to choose the treatment plans according to the best of their
knowledge. Treatment plan should not be selected by the student or supervising
faculty. Student should make their effort to help patient in choosing best plan for
them.
 A dental student will never avoid patients as based on their race, ethnicity, culture,
social status, age, health and way of life, the physical or mental characteristics of the
patient.
 Dental students always maintain trustworthiness and respectability. They practice
within their own level of competence. They look for more information from a
teacher when parts of consideration required are beyond their ability.

Responsibility of a dental student in theory classes :-

 A dental student should not make defamatory comments about others and their
work.
 At the point when understudies speculate unsafe care and unethical conduct and
have sensible reason for worry about the conduct of associates, in such manner they
should address the issue with offending student. If this event fails to solve the issue,
the dental student is committed to report the issue to faculty.
 Students must not compete for the patients or expert administration by techniques
that would antagonistically influence the respect or nobility of the profession.
 Students should not acquire or get help during an assessment or other conventional
exercise from any source which is not approved by the educational department. It
includes replicating answers from other students or using unapproved notes or
gadgets.
