You are on page 1of 4

I would like to mention a couple things that I feel will aid you in achieving optimum re-

sults when doing this exercise. The "mp" volume marking is only a suggestion. If you can start

softer without any breaking up of notes, please do. You will undoubtly be able to lessen the

volume as the weeks pass by. Do not start the crescendo until you have a firm hold of the top

note. Then and only then do you increase the volume. This should be done at an ever increasing

rate until just before you run out of air. Now rest for the same amount of time. It's best to do

this with two people answering each other. There's a couple of reasons for this. One is for the

timing and the other is to satisify our ingrown need to compete. Very healthy in this case.

When you reach your limit, be satisfied and stop. There are no benefits to be gained by trying

to continue and some harm could result. As time passes you will notice that sometimes your

chops will not be able to contain the airstream. Don't worry, they will get stronger. That's what

this is all about, isn't it?

I suggest that you do this after your other practising is over. You really shouldn't follow this

with any more playing for an hour or so.

Good luck,

George Graham
