English translation:

Man: And this College of Sciences is located in … I mean is located in Giza at Cairo
University which is the first university established in Egypt. Its name … its name used to
be The Private University. And one of the first colleges founded in it was … ah … the
College of Sciences. We study the development of poetry from pre-Islamic to Amawi,
and the poetic rhythm and the rhyme, and the poetic rhyme, and the stanza, and the things
related to these issues, and the grammar and syntax.

It truly is a college that’s one of the best colleges. Of course, there is a difference
between the College of Sciences and the College of Arts, the Department of Arabic
Language. They are, I mean … a distant person looks at both as one college with the
same course [curriculum]; but, not [so]. The College of Sciences is stronger, much
stronger, than the College of Arts in Arabic Language because it’s specialized in the
Arabic Language. You know the Arabic Language, its arts, and its syntax, and its
inflection and its stanza; and you know everything about the Arabic Language. You don’t
study it, I mean, you don’t study it as a static course, as an Arabic Language; no, you
study literature, and we know its stages and we know what the Arabic Language’s origin
is, and how it evolved from Semitic languages, and what Syriac has in common with the
Arabic Language. And we study other courses … and a person can acquire the language
even within a few years. And what forms the Arabic Language, phonetics and sounds
and all these things … we study them at the College of Sciences.

And we know the correct pronunciation of the Arabic Language. This is what
distinguishes us. I, I don’t underestimate the College of Arts, but the College of Sciences
is stronger regarding study.

The College, College of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University is a college that’s one
of the best colleges in the study of language, but the College of Sciences, Cairo
University is much stronger, because over there they focus on the Shari’a, not on
language. As for ….

Over there at Al-Azhar University. At the College of Sciences, we focus on the Arabic
Language and the Shari’a is a supplementary to it. Yes, yes.

The strongest college is the College of Sciences; the strongest college ever. The College
of Sciences is stronger than the College of Arabic Language. It combines both of them,
Arabic Language and the Shari’a, but the Arabic Language is the main one. The College
of Arabic Language, Al-Azhar University, combines the Arabic Language and the
Shari’a, but the Shari’a is the base, and the Arabic Language is a supplement to it.

Woman behind camera: In order to ….

Man: This is the difference.

Woman behind camera: Fine.

Man: This is, this is the study but ….

Woman behind camera: If you could speak in the dialect, it will be better.

Man: Fine. This is the [pattern of] study at the College of Sciences. I know over there my
friends, and I know the college, and I love the college, and we go to the library, and take
a walk at the university, and we drink 7-Up. And we know many things in the, the … ah
… college, and we study rhetoric and syntax and everything about Arabic Language.
